I liked to use The King in all the post-game bonus stages that had you battle Calamity Ganon, because we all know that that ol' Ganon is no match for The King.
He’s easily one of my four mains. Link, Rhoam, Urbosa, and (unfortunately for those who don’t have the expansion pass) Battle-Tested Guardian. Before B-TG, it was a toss up between Sidon, Kohga and Riju.
The king in BOTW: "Oh sheet, a Bokoblin!" *runs for his life. The king in Age of Calamity: "Yaaaaawh... just a horde of 70~ Bokoblins, 3 Moblibs and a Lynel" *Smashes them with ease.
The King is so powerful, it seems that he only needs the Champions because he can't wield the Master Sword or Divine Beasts himself. Love playing as him, powerhouses with big two-handed weapons are my jam.
I was hoping beyond hope when this game first came out that the king would be playable, and the scene that re-introduced him into the story and the subsequent reveal as a playable character was one of the game’s biggest highlights, at least for me.
I was really excited to get King Rhoam as a playable warrior in the game, but I absolutely never expected him to be so strong and fun. Definitely one of my unexpected favorites in the entire game! Really nicely done with this guide! Never realized the form-swap extra combo was actually the next in line.
it does, I learned it by noticing he was healing pretty weirdly on the siege of fort hateno (I had the slow recovery food on and was waiting for my party to full heal before triggering the final fight)
One detail you did miss is that you can transition into riding the wind and his aerials from the King guise's third combo (Y>Y>X) if you time it correctly. Not sure if it's worth mentioning though, since I rarely ever use aerials as King Rhoam.
There he is, my favorite character! He is just so much fun to play, and even though it is better to remain in the Hermit form for regular attacks, the King form is also really fun to use on his own. He might not be the best character in the game, but he is definitely the one I enjoy using the most
Something I prefer in the post-game with the action upgrade is start engagements as the hermit. Since any weakpoont smash forces him into king guise (and most of his smashes stay in king guise) you can maintain the empowered guise through the smash and chain it back afterwards to the hermit to open the next battle with (especially on any 'elites' with a gauge to break)
My favorite character and my most maxed out. Lvl 100 and did all the endgame missions with him when allowed. He's so powerful feeling and he already was the character I wanted the most playable. Absolutely my top pick for anything in this game.
I know that on the tier list he isn’t as high, but even when I played him for the first time without runes or anything, I felt like he was a good character. The idea of extending combos and just continuing to wail on enemies with a form change mechanic felt great
I actually didn’t know about switching mid-string would lead to the other form extending the combo +1, so thanks for pointing that out!! These guides are exceptional tools for reference~
I love how they managed to make every character very different but interesting and powerful at the same time. Also, thanks for the video! I was a bit confused on how his strong attacks worked at the beginning
Love King Rhoam, dude is the most fun to play when it comes to tearing down big enemies to shreds or hell role playing as a beyblade slaughtering bokoblins in a group. Surprised you don't mention their special attacks.
I love these videos, as well as the ones from the original Hyrule Warriors as well as F.E. Warriors. Nice to see King Rhinestone actually do something other than tear Zelda a new one for being herself.
The King is my main, Spear Link was my main for the first half of the game, but he lacks in power and decent crowd clearing abilities. He has too many weapons to level up and the master sword doesn't get a buff like it should so at endgame you end using royal, royal guard or Savage Lynel weapons instead. So when we unlocked the King and found he was fast and strong with great crowd control, it was a no brainer to switch. I hope he gets the ancient claymore (chainsaw) in the future instead of Link.
I think he's incredibly fun and stylish. His guise switch add just enough complexity to make him unique while not make him too awkward to play. He's great.
My only issues is being forced back to king guise for any WPG smash he does (2 of 3 smashes stay in king and the 3rd swaps to hermit and back to king after) so it can break the flow of chaining his enhanced guise power up post game
Even though I don't use him as much as a should, (i just love playing Zelda) he's certainly up there with Calamity Ganon and Zelda as one of my favourites
Can you do a guide on the weapon system in this game? Like some weapons of the same name and same level have a higher base damage, a video explaining that and how to find weapons with the highest base stats would be much appreciated. Right now, I'm hesitant to start making any weapon since I might find one with better stats later.
Comes down to whether you have dlc 1 or not. Without the dlc siege of fort hateno is great (weapon highest power sits around 66-70 iirc) dlc ups the power limit by 10 (so 76-80 iirc) and mostly those ones come from farming vicious monster battles
Average King of Hyrule in every other game: *either dead or incompetent* Chad King Rhoam: "Played Goron-Wrestling ya know? Coulda gone pro if i hadn´t become King. I´m not like one of those aristrocrat pansies, I could rip the Calamity apart with my own bare hands!"
lol at 1:49 "if you perform a weak point smash you will always revert back to the form of the king." yet at 8:43 the footage in the background shows you perform a weak point smash on a Hinox and take the form of the Hermit to do the smash lol.....
Anyone else think it's backwards that his form wielding the big, top-heavy battle-axe is his light, fast-attacking form, and the one with the sword is the slow, hard-hitting form? Like, I realize that this is an over-the-top fantasy game and all, but it still seems like a weirdly counter-intuitive design choice. :P
I actually hate rhoam as a character when hes not a player character. In the story before he becomes playable he basically emotionally abuses zelda (not on purpose) and because he's not reading up on the legends he doesn't know how the triforce of wisdom works and just tears zelda away from what would have lead to her getting her powers earlier. (If you think I'm wrong remember that they have an entire library full of books and some of them are bound to be filled with information, he clearly just ran off what little info he originally had and rolled with it) Now he understands what zelda really needed but it took almost dying to do so, and he just let up on his behavior to be supportive. In botw the man is literally the reason zelda didn't get her powers because she couldn't educate herself. That aside I love playing him and I might just main him if I can build him correctly.
King Rhoam def one of my top favourites. He's the definition of brute force. His unique mechanic is so satisfying to pull off too.
I liked to use The King in all the post-game bonus stages that had you battle Calamity Ganon, because we all know that that ol' Ganon is no match for The King.

Make sense.
I was hoping beyond hope when this game first came out that the king would be playable, and the scene that re-introduced him into the story and the subsequent reveal as a playable character was one of the game’s biggest highlights, at least for me.
The scene where he "dies" made me a bit emotional.
I knew right away when he held up that Royal claymore "yeah, we're gonna get to use that"
I’d love to see someone take a real-world claymore like this, and swing it as fast and hard as Rhoam does without dislocating both shoulders.
Hylians are just built different nine year olds can lift and effortlessly throw rocks as large as their heads. Rocks are heavy
I didn't really expect much from the King but after playing with him in game he quickly became one of my favorite characters to use.

by the way, if he gets calamity gannon in water, he can fully stun lock him with cryonis

One of the things I like about this game compared to the previous one is the diversity. It's not just a bar that fills.
