A BIG thanks to Zeltik for joining me on this video! And as always, to those who were at the premiere! This was a fun one ^^ Have a great rest of your weekend. Next week: Age of Calamity!
I would like to propose an idea I have about your previous video on Shiekah technology. I think the egg Guardian from AoC is the control unit for all Shiekah tech. Just bear with me on this. We see it reactivate on Hyrule Field in AoC from being in close proximity to the Shiekah Slate and in response both the slate and the nearby Central Tower immediately respond to it. There is reason to believe the Slate was inactive until that point just from Zelda and Impa's reactions to it reacting with the egg Guardian, as we can see in the cutscenes. It could act as an autonomous remote controller for Shiekah technology.
Or maybe it's named the way it is because it's where they "buried" the bodies of those lives lost in the battle? I've heard stories about the deceased being put in boats and their bodies burned as they sail out into the water as a way of honoring the dead as they ascend to the afterlife. Despite that a battle occurred on the Great Plateau, there are no graves, no tombstones, nothing except the King's Grave itself, which is just made of rocks stacked on top of each other. Nothing too fancy. It's also on a remote mountain top. Perhaps this was not only so that the King may watch over his kingdom, but to be far enough not to be found by monsters, who inhabit the Great Plateau and would likely destroy it if they could. They could not possibly take all the people with them off the great plateau to be placed in proper graves, but could not simply leave them there. So rather than burying the dead, they placed the bodies of those brave souls in the river as a way of honoring the brave soldiers who gave their lives for Hyrule and it's people, as well as the innocent civilians.
Breath of the Wild and Age of Calamity's demo: *don't show cutscenes of the guardians' attack on the great plateau* Monster Maze: "Fine, I'll do it myself!" Seriously though, your custom animations are getting better and better and they add so much to the video, great work!

Perhaps Purah and Robbie themselves. As far as we know, they were the last ones on the Plateau before Link woke up. Plus the grave itself looks sheikah made. Just look at the Kakariko Village Graveyard and you'll see the similarities.
When you think about it, if the mountain really is where his body was buried, then someone must have survived the bridge encounter. This implies that Roam himself had seen enough of his soldiers die to the guardians and protected the last few remaining knights himself... What a badass
It is likely that those sheikah including Purah and Robbie would have find king's body who had come there to lay the link into the ‛shrine of ressurection’ but you can also be right.
This is why I don't want AoC to give us an alternate timeline and retcon this. If AoC commits to telling us the story of the downfall of Hyrule, it has potential to be one of the greatest tragic stories in gaming.
I don't think it will. I think this truly is the backstory. The Egg Bot shows knowledge of the location, functions and can activate only tech. It's possible that this is a stable paradox. The game we know happens because the big went back in time and because it went back in time is the reason it goes back in time. It's possible the last act to "save everyone" is to activate the Chamber of Resurrection. As Zelda mentions in a journal that they have found many shrines but didn't know how to turn them on and the Egg Bot is an intelligent remote control

Something I found interesting in my most recent playthru of botw is that not a single guardian, or even the legs of one, is actually found _inside_ the temple, and none of them appear in a position that suggests they had just left the temple. I personally have come up with 2 possible explanations of this. The first one is that before the guardians can actually enter through the breached wall, Zelda arrives at Hyrule Castle and seals Ganon and herself, shutting down all the guardians as Ganon no longer has control over them. The second theory(which I consider to be the more interesting yet less likely one), involves the large Goddess Statue in the temple. In the game, the statues function as a sort of "payphone" to Hylia, as not only do the statues respond to Link when he prays to them, but they also provide him with "upgrades" to his stamina and vitality at the cost of spirit orbs. If these statues function as a inanimate vessel of sorts for Hylia, could it be possible that the Goddess herself intervened via the temple's statue, burning the malice from all the nearby guardians similarly to how Zelda does when her powers finally awaken?
YES! I loved seeing that scenario of what happened with the Temple of Time since I've always wondered about. I definitely think we'll see more in Age of Calamity. This series has been a wonderful production! 👏🏾

The thought of a scene where the king makes a final speech to the remaining soldiers barricaded in the temple of time to make their final stand knowing that their destruction is imminent gives me literal chills.
Speaking of the king, I think his character is often misunderstood. A lot of people brush him off as just a strict and close-minded father who does not let his daughter pursue her passions, but I think there's more to him than that. It can be seen in the king's diary found in the secret room of the castle's library that he was willing to let go of the whole awakening powers thing if Zelda returns from Lanayru failing to do so, and let her finally commit to her research. We can see that he does want to see his daughter happy, he just imposes her responsibilities on her due to necessity. Unfortunately, we all know what happened when Zelda left Lanayru. We never got to see her dad reconcile with her and support her passion. :,( Damn it, Ganon! P.S. The quality here is stunning! I don't know why but it's the Zeldatuber community that always has such well-made videos and the least drama. I think this is one of the best communities on TH-cam!
Thanks a lot! And yeas I do think Rhoam is misunderstood. That man had a HUGE weight on his shoulders. He knew that someone or "something" was going to try and devastate his kingdom. But he didn't know how, where or when. I cannot even fathom the fear and frustration he must've felt...
I'm now curious about the person who buried the King and built the headstone. There had to have been at least one person on the Great Plateau that survived the Calamity. He was most likely a soldier the fought with the King. But what did he do after burying the King? Did he make a paraglider to get off the plateau? I think he spent the rest of his days trapped on the Great Plateau. His days were probably a routine of hunting, gathering, killing monsters, and dwelling on the memories of the Great Calamity and everyone he lost. The soldier is the one who built the cabin we see on the southern part of the plateau. Why else would there be a cabin with a bed on the Great Plateau? The dead king would have no use for it.
Wow, just wow. This video series was so WELL MADE! Genuinely Netflix worthy wow, you've grown to become one of my favorite TH-cam in the span of a few months dude
The king's tombstone location may not indicate that the king's body was burried in the mountain... some japanese graveyards are full of tombstones but there aren't any bodies burried underground. This is likely the case for the king of Hyrule, he might've died in another place, but Hylian soldiers (or any Hylian who loved the king) could've just stacked the rocks on top of the mountain to remember the king
I actually like to believe that his final knignts were able to defeat the last of the guardians that followed but during the escape the king fell. As a final honor to their king his few remaining knights bury him atop the highest point of the great plateau. The reason I believe this is because of the cabin we find on the plateau for 1 I really doubt they would simply build a random cabin in their most holy sight 2nd I also really doubt a ghost can make a cabin. So I believe whatever very few knights maybe even a single survivor were left simply stayed on the plateau. With all guardian dead or disabled at the abbey, and no way to get down its possible that the cabin is the remnants of whoever was left and died long before the hero rose again
This... is seriously insane. I mean, obviously you have a very deep understanding of the lore of botw and amazingly account for every single detail. But the writing and the EDITING are just top notch. You never, EVER settle for less than top-notch, professional presentation. The map, the original models and cutscenes, (that one with the laser and the Temple of Time? sorry for my profanity but what the FUCK. what the FUCK??) You produce only the BEST content and hold the highest standards for yourself... we're lucky to have you.
This is incredible. The writing, the storytelling, the editing, the animations, the theories, everything was perfect. This series, and especially this episode, have been a true testament to the skill and dedication of the Zelda community. Thank you, Don.
I think the king has a grave at the top of the Great Plateau because from that point of the mountain you can see most of Hyrule. He stands there to watch over his kingdom

@@haileeraestout5567 I think so too. In pretty much all advertising material it says something along the lines of "find out what happened 100 years ago" - in the German translation it even says "...100 years ago in our land". Also, why would they make this game if it had pretty much nothing to do with botws plot? I thought the whole reason they made AoC was to tell this exact story of what happened 100 years ago (maybe or maybe not to tease botw 2).
@@zeotex2851 What if stuffZ means that maybe the game will be a different story cuz of the time traveling egg guardian, theres a possibility that its still what happened 100 years before botw but if thats the case that means a lot of things will be retconned from the og game
Oh my gosh, you guys are both so good at what you do. Seriously, I feel like crying with each episode because of the tragedy and the details being highlighted, but also due to the way you tell your story and use the visuals to set the stage. Thank you for putting so much effort into telling the story of BotW, your talent is very appreciated
Woooooow the scene where the guardians wipe out everyone in the Temple of Time gave me chills. The lighting! The framing! The cinematography! *Chefs kiss* Jesus this is like watching a documentary!
This installment of the Hero's Path series is next level incredible! From the animations and editing down to the way you mapped out the story--truly great work!
GREAT JOB. Your animations are amazing!!!! I kept getting more and more impressed. People like you make me appreciate Breath of the Wild even more. I realize how coherant the world is. How it was designed to be realistic. And the amount of lore put into the game can't really be appreciated unless you're told, and that's what you do! Now when I will play botw, I will understand why the great plateau is important at all. Before I just thought: Well, it's the location of the temple of time and the shrine of resurrection and the beginning area, that's it. The shrine was put there for gameplay reasons and the temple of time was just there to be an interesting location for the begining of the game. Now, next time I will play it: I will think: oh yeah, the last stand of hyrule. The soldiers realized they couldn't flee because of the guaridans' speed and calculated that they could save the most lives if they fought back in the most optimal defense setting. They blocked the entrance to allow enough time to setup lines of defense. They used a HOLY SANCTUARY as a battlefield out of desperation to save as many of their comrads as they could. And they succeeded, in a way. There are no more mobile active guardians on the great plateau. True, there are 3 stading guardians, but they aren't dangerous at all. If anyone finds themselves in range of them, they can simply hide behind one of the many walls. So it's possible they decided to leave those guardians there and leave because they weren't a threat. Or maybe the group in the abbey all died. But it's very likely that there were survivors in the temple of time. All the guradians around are dead, so there's no other explanation. They must have found a way to got off the plateau, with a ladder, or a glider or something. Those few survivors must have been traumatized for the rest of their lives. Think about it: even in our world's history, there hasn't been an event that traumatizing. They spent years preparing for this event and BOOM. Everything around them was destroyed. They were up against those gigantic beasts that are super fast. For them, it's something out of a horror movie, except it's real. They flee with the king scared that a mechanical beast comes out of the darkness every second. And during the battle, oh man. Just hearing those lasers against the walls must have been a bad experience. Feeling the ground shake at every laser fired... Those soldiers must have been able to FEEL the power of those guardians. It's likely a lot of them were not functional during the rest of their lives because of that experience. Remember, therapy doesn't exist in hyrule. They must have never been able to get over it. I'll think of THAT the next time I visit the temple of time, which will be much more interesting. You alone made my experience with the game better. GREAT JOB
@@MonsterMaze You're also tempting me to buy creating a champion. If it allows me to learn more about the lore of each location and enhance my enjoyment of the game just like your videos, I would LOVE it
I'm guessing the King had to have encountered the Sheikah carrying Link or maybe Purah and Robbie. He certainly seemed like he was expecting Link to awaken 100 years later the whole time

Incredible quality as usual!! This is fantastic. I really hope we get to see this battle play out in AOC since the Great Plateau has always been one of the most interesting places in the game, to me.
Nintendo took a big risk choosing such a subtle way of telling the story in BOTW. At first I was a bit disappointed with this decision, but learning what happened through exploration and piecing together hints was ultimately one of the best narrative experience I had ! And checking out all the incredibly awesome theories you guys came up with was a big part of it, so thank you so much for that. Honestly, I’m not really looking forward to Age of Calamity, which looks filled with information about the story. I think I just preferred when a large part of it was left to interpretation.

With all guardian dead or disabled at the abbey, and no way to get down its possible that the cabin is the remnants of whoever was left and died long before the hero rose again
It would be crazy if Bosphoramus is the unconfirmed playable character in AoC
If we play as him tho the clap of his dummy thicc cheeks will alert the guardians to his presence
@@Poolparty-tm4no What's his onlyfans?
@@kattheneeko blasphemous Bosphoramus
This... is seriously insane.
Amazing episode as always Don, class work lads! 🙏
Thanks man! Lookingforward to your next piece of art ^^
Did we ever have a Zelda game that allowed so much theories? I mean... with the informations we have we can reconstruct a whole war, that's.. wow.
This is incredible. The writing, the storytelling, the editing, the animations, the theories, everything was perfect. This series, and especially this episode, have been a true testament to the skill and dedication of the Zelda community.
Thank you, Don.
The detail in this video along with the animations was absolutely beautiful! Plus two of my favourite Zelda youtubers on a video together - YES
I think the king has a grave at the top of the Great Plateau because from that point of the mountain you can see most of Hyrule. He stands there to watch over his kingdom
Excellent video man! The quality is god-tier!!
That means a LOT coming from you!
Oh my word, you know how to tell a story WITH the best animation any youtuber would die for!!! Incredible job, I just subscribed if that helps out:D Also, huge applause for Zeltik assisting, you're two amazing theorist!
My theory is that the king dies of exhaustion on the mountain after the events mentioned.
Maybe he made an attempt to reach the top of the mountain in time to see zelda sealing ganon inside the castle and finally dying of exhaustion.
I think it might have been one of the Sheikah who was tasked with bringing Link to the Shrine of Resurrection who found the King's body.
Yet another fantastic video! The animations, sound effects, editing...everything was astounding! It's only a matter of time before your channel gets discovered, you and your channel deserve all the praise you get and much, much, more. Keep up the awesome work!!
Damn this one actually gave me chills.
It's a shame AoC is shaping up to be noncanon, because this backstory told by BOTW is so interesting.
Um Stuffz Age Of Calamity IS CANON
@@haileeraestout5567 I think so too. In pretty much all advertising material it says something along the lines of "find out what happened 100 years ago" - in the German translation it even says "...100 years ago in our land". Also, why would they make this game if it had pretty much nothing to do with botws plot? I thought the whole reason they made AoC was to tell this exact story of what happened 100 years ago (maybe or maybe not to tease botw 2).
@Carter Steidley how can something "be a different timeline" and still be canon?
Eiji himself said the game will tell us what happened 100 years ago. It's canon.
GREAT JOB
Thank you, a lot! Feels great to know that my video's contribute to your enjoyment of the game even more ^^
@@MonsterMaze You're also tempting me to buy creating a champion. If it allows me to learn more about the lore of each location and enhance my enjoyment of the game just like your videos, I would LOVE it
The animations in this video are amazing. I am jealous of your talents
Me: *has never payed attention to the scaling guardian*
Guardian: 10:41
Me: O.O nope nope nope nope nope
Oh jeez, can you imagine if they could do that in-game? O_o
I'm guessing the King had to have encountered the Sheikah carrying Link or maybe Purah and Robbie. He certainly seemed like he was expecting Link to awaken 100 years later the whole time
The final chapter of an epic story. This was an amazing episode! I never thought the quality could surpass the other episodes but this one blew them out of the water! I can't wait to see how accurate these videos are on Friday. Weather they are 100% correct or not this series will be one of my favorite Zelda series on TH-cam. I can't wait to see what else you have in the works!
honest to god one on the most underated channels on the platform ive been watching you since the "big puzzle" video and i just wanted to say that you put so much effort into your work and i love it!
Yeah, It's likely that Purah and Robbie found the king's body after putting link away in the shrine of resurrection. Good video.
I just have to say this series was excellent, and I appreciate the work you put into its research and creation. It's a shame and disappointment that none of it made it into AOC (even though it absolutely should have). Just know that this series is how I imagine the canonical events of the Calamity unfolded, and BOTW is made better for it.
The script, story and editing are among the best I ever saw.
This was phenomenal man great work
Bout to binge watch the series to get ready for Age of Calamity, and only midterms can stop me.
Yay!
the only two Zelda theorists I trust and respect ;w;
the amount of work, thought, research and polish put into all of your videos is so wonderful!! It's just a joy to watch whatever you two put out
man...Thanks Zeltik and MM for this wonderful ending to the series! Now I've got to re-watch them from part 1. Thanks Monster Maze for the series, Keep it up!!
Damn. The last part really got me. I swear I'm not crying.
After this video, beginning BOTW won't be the same anymore. I feel like just opening up the game and just stand there in front of the temple of time to show condolences.
I have no idea what else you do, but this series you did here is amazing. Hope your channel blows up one day!
Thank you for the series. A lot of effort is required in making these videos. We appreciate it. We can tell that this last episode got extra time in making but it was really a great one.
The quality of this video is superior to any other Zelda channel out there. Congrats and keep up the good work!
A grand finale to the miniseries. Gave me chills (the good kind) from start to finish!
I appreciate that you fully took the extra time to really spice up the visuals.
Thumbs up 👍
Really good video
the quality on this channel is consistently amazing. the hero path series is enough evidence for that fact. keep up the great work!
I just had to continuously rewind to admire that amazing animation of the temple of time's wall exploding, not to mention the guardians trying to climb up its walls just before it.
Rewatching this I can see that you really outdid yourself with the animations, they are absolutely gorgeous!
Best zelda series I have watch and right before Age Of Calamity! Just AMAZING work from all of you! Music! Graphics ! Montage ! Script! All of them was great! Even though you missed some of the info shared through demo and trailers of AoC it was a pretty solid and mostly accurate series. Better than I could have wished!
I loved this series so much. It expands the events of botw and allows me to visualise in my head all the carnage that happened
Holy shit dude. I was binging through your videos like a mad man, but this... the cinematography of this one is incredible. Even more than the other installments of this series. Wow.
Just want to say, great 3D Animation and story telling that went into this. I had to rewind some parts just to see it again. I know a lot of work went into the creation and as a fan and new comer of the Zelda Theory community channels, just wanna say thanks a lot for putting this together. Phenomenal work right there! I definitely hit the Subscribe button....
The custom animation just clinches it. God you're good, Don.
Guardians in botw cutscenes: I smart
Guardians in botw gameplay: .I smrort
Guardians in H W cutscenes: IM DEADLY AND SMART
Gurdians in H W gameplay: i dealdy ansd reckless
Somehow, I KNEW Zeltik would be the last guest! It was awesome!!! Thank you both for the great content!
Thank you for all of these. I'm not a fan of the Warriors gameplay, and that demo lasted maybe three minutes on my Switch, so the insight you're giving us here is likely all people like me are going to get when it comes to these events. Unless Age of Calamity offers a story-only mode without the hordes of enemies. I'd pay full price just for that.
This was really good, as was this entire series. Thanks for putting in all the effort you do, it really shows.
Great Video! I didn't think of this at all. The animations were very professional too. Loved this video; It def ended with a BANG!
Wow.. that extra animation was wonderful. Must have taken quite a while. Great work. So excited... just 2 more days to go!
the production of your vids is insane. like mini movies. i love it so much.
The animations in this video are absolutly stunning
Give this man a job in nintendo, he deserves it. I think all the legend of zelda theorist should hire this man to make gameplay footage like this vids to ampifly their theory.
You and Zeltik both have the two most dulcet voices of all the zeldatubers
Great video! Thanks for this amazing series and keep up the good work :D
We’re so close!! This was such a great series and you are a total genius monster maze! Thank you for this masterpiece!!
I don't get to contribute much but, man, I'm so proud to be a patron! This is remarkable quality and the passion that shines through and through.
Thank you so much! I don't need more than that ^^
This was an amazing series, congratulations and a big thanks to all involved.
The added animations are AWESOME. Sick video dude.
Well done on the graphics and models used in your presentation here!
if it's okay, i'd like to write captions for these hero's path videos! your narration is clear and concise and i think it'd be cool to make it more accessible for people who have a harder time with audio processing!
You 2 are my favorite Zelda youtubers! Thank you for your contribution!
Omggg I’m sooo happy ! I’ve been waiting for this one 😻 Ever since the game was announced and you started this series of video, I’ve been hyped for each episode!! Thank you for this great content! And good job with the animation too 💗 Now I’m ready for Friday! Aaah ! I can’t wait to play it ❤️❤️❤️
This was truly a golden experience. Thanks for the final Hero’s Path video Monster Maze, and thank you Zeltik for the collaboration. You guys did an excellent job. 👍😎
I guess you could say he didn’t.. RHOAM to far from central hyrule

good pun my dude
Dadum tssjjjj!
A very graceful end to an amazing series.
Thank you!
Well done video! I thoroughly enjoyed this along with the other hero path vids. Feels like something from the history channel lol gonna miss these. Im so pumped for age of calamity and hopefully the King will be playable so we can play out this scenario.
Gods, this hurt. Rhoam wasn't the best father but he did push his daughter of desperation for her life and the Kingdom
wonderful video as always! I love your renders, they always look gorgeous
Awesome series man! I cant wait to see the temple of time in its former glory, only to soon see it get destroyed..
Rhoam probably killed a lot of guardians himself with his claymore, given how buff he is.
That ain't fat under his clothes. Probably took some tips from Iroh.
i bet a lynel trained him

Not a bad trainer, given that they are basicly mini Ganons.
