      just to be clear, there's nothing wrong with statistics. if the true value of Jrue isn't appreciated, then it's bc the statistics is incomplete or ppl who look at them are ignoring some data and focusing too much on others.

    Also one thing thats underrated about jrue defense is how comfortable he is against multiple offensive schemes and sets the suns ran wether the suns run spain pnr where they like to get get booker as the back screener for ayton he would blow it up by staying connected to booker whereas teams would be confused as to who to pick up resulting un a layup for ayton or when they ran horns when milwaukee used the deep drop jrue was able to stay connected to booker constantly on his hip preventing him from getting into his shot and snaking the PNR making it harder for booker to exploit the deep drop Also jrue understanding off bookers tendency to come from the baseline off pin down knowing that booker will always come to the three point line get another screen come down hill this meant that jrue could play him tight knowing booker would never back cut him he would also shade booker or paul into the help and crowd the paint knowing that they cant pressure the rim and get an easy passes to either corners this allowed the bucks to hug the lane causing booker and paul to snake the PNR waiting for chances running the clock down Lastly Jrue would pick up Paul and Booker from half court causing the ball handler to shield the ball and look to screen and rescreen to get jrue off them killing seconds on the clock whilst delaying the suns gettin into their actions resulting in mediocre looks

    I think what most people miss in his contests is not only that he anticipates well, but if you look closely, he'll usually delay his jump compared to the shooter's. The reason for that is that the shooting rhythm of a jump is slower, but more powerful than that of a blocker. The blocker doesn't need to set up and flow, he just shoots up instantly. The shooter, needs the flow for the shot to be accurate. The main benefit of this difference for the shooter is that the blocker will usually start dropping off from his contest before the shooter actually releases the ball. So it pays to start your jump just a fraction of a second late, because you will match the shooter at the peak of the jump, instead of overtaking him too early and leaving a clear view behind you.
    Drew delays his contest just a bit and aims around the ball to block the shooters vision at the critical time for the shot itself. That is why his contests, even against much taller opponents result in a high percentage of misses. Not only is it effective, it's also not what his opponents are used to, putting them out of their comfort zone, and thus out of rhythm. I'm pretty sure he devoted a lot of time to honing this timing.

    i think one thing that he and many other great on-ball defenders do is, although they shuffle their feet occasionally, a lot of their movements are either small hops (which allows them to go either direction quickly) or they turn and sprint to cut off the player instead of trying to slide their feet as it’s traditionally taught. there’s a ton of clips of him, kawhi, klay, etc. doing this things consistently

    • @noahlandkaioken1192
      @noahlandkaioken1192 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Facts , and another thing that you can notice also is that they all are aiming as much as possible when the ball handler hasn't dribble yet to have the non pivot foot in lockdown with their foot to prevent them from being too unpredictable off the dribble

    The best piece of advice I'd ever heard on defense was look at the person's hips as they play. You cant trust where the ball is going, but the person's body has to move in the direction they're trying to go and their waist is a very good give away a lot of times. Now you also can't be so much slower than them to the point where it doesn't matter...but if y'all are close in size and speed it isn't too hard as long as you don't get screened out
