You have 2 car's there to be very proud of and shows the work you are capable of doing so don't give up on your dreams. I also be sitting on a Sunday evening waiting for retropower to be uploaded so I can get my weekend fix. Ps dreams can come true.
Thanks very much Trevor. Appreciate the encouragement and great comment. They are very good retro power. Pleased to see its not just me who gets fixed on there content 🤣
You easily have the attention to detail, innovation, problem solving skill of that the guys at retro power have. Keep dreaming and scheming. This channel is the independent version.
I too would like to do what you dream of doing. However, I would just love to have a house with a garage, a few spare quid and your skills to do what you do m8! However, hope you get to fulfil your dream one day! You just need that break!
Awesome stuff as ever, no harm in believing in what you could do in the future, spreading the word on here could well generate a comment or thought from someone that could lead you down that path you’d like to follow, all the best 👍🏻
Absolutely right Nige. It would be great if that would happen. I did once have a guy asking in the comments about me building a car for them, but not sure how serious he was or if he understood the cost implications. I worked out how much it would cost me to build the mk1 escort for a customer the other night, taking into consideration the insane hours involved, parts and VAT and there wasn’t much change from £160,000 🤦♂️ Not sure just how many people who could / would spend that kind of money for a classic car resto mod 🤷♂️
@@performanceclassics1986 like you say that’s some serious money, would another option be for you to work for someone and learn the ropes how they operate the business then you can if you feel it’s right go on your own?
@@Wigglesway that’s probably the best option actually Nige. Don’t know of any places that carry out that line of work around here. Would probably mean travelling
Great video, looking forward to seeing it running again 🤞🏻 Hope you’ve got more mods to do on the mini. Would love to see more of the escort, maybe in car🤷🏻♂️ keep them coming Craig
Thanks Mick. Yeah driving videos will certainly be happening this summer. It’s something I wish I’d captured more of last year. Thanks for the great comment 👍
Hello Phil, it surprising what a well prepared standard crank can cope with. Mine is a standard crank but it’s nitro carbonised and cross drilled by MED and they will cope with most engine build situations. It is however a very good idea to fit a steel Center main strap on the middle crank cap for additional strength or better still the 4 bolt Center main strap, but these need line bored to fit them which is a specialist job that would need to be done by an engine machining specialist or somebody with the equipment and knowledge to do it.
Great video as usual mate, fantastic attention to detail, alot of 15 year old cars are being scrapped so to see how good yours is after 15 years amazing. I have the same thoughts as you were do retro get the customers round Newcastle they want owt for nowt and twopence change, allegedly Darth Vader was 200k, keep them coming kid
That’s very interesting Colin, I’ve often wondered what the build costs were but I wasn’t far off with my guess. It’s exactly the same around here too. There’s some very highly paid people round here but everybody wants everything for nothing. It would certainly be do able if I could find there customer base. Thanks for the great comment 👍
Hello Scott happy new year to you too. Hope it’s a good year. I looked into that Scott but was advised against it as apparently the additional heat that’s held within the coating can weaken the stainless and crack the welds. That’s what I was told by the guy who made the manifold. Hope your keeping well Scott
It’s a Mini A series engine block and gearbox, fitted with a twin cam 16v K series BMW motorbike cylinder head. A really cool conversion that the likes of specialist components specialise in all the parts required to convert from a 5 port head.
Nothing in West Cumbria can compete against the muppet factory for wages, and speak to those in the trade we know to find out what a nightmare staff are! Finding somewhere to work from round here is hard enough as a first step, as you and Ant know.
Soo very true on all of the above rich. You wouldn’t believe the level of muppets I deal with on a daily basis. Your absolutely right, we could never compete with them wages. A top tradie could work for me where they would have to work, or they can go there and make a significant amount more for doing a significant amount less. Me and Ant would love a unit like yours rich. Such a great working space.
Check out JET-MOTORS In America, They do a BOLT-OM Turbo kit that Bolt;s Straight onto an SU Carb with NO Electrics. They have also Done the K1600 Twin-Cam TURBO Conversion MAD-Motor. But the standard A Series 1275 with NO Mods can Hold upto 90BHP.
The mini looks as fresh as a daisy….testament to the quality of the original build. Two absolute beauty’s in your garage mate 👍
Thanks very much Jamie. Much appreciated 👍
A well deserved proud moment Craig. I remember being amazed watching you and the attention to detail you have, a complete labour of love here!
Cheers Andrew. Much appreciated 👍
Can’t wait to hear it fire up 😊.
Won’t be far away now 👍
Great job Craig hope you get power increase you want look forward to nx video 👍👍

Craig (with all of that additional BMEP on each piston crown) do most builders opt for a forged crank and billet steel main bearings?

Yeah I’ve seen some of there videos. Looks like they have a really good set up and nice workshop
Anyone you know whom is selling a nice mini with twincam or honda vtec setup? Gives a shout bro
I know somebody who’s selling a Miglia spec mini clubman with Vauxhall red top. I think it’s still for sale. Real nice car
@Performance Classics same person has a vtec mini to build (still at the bodyshop) and a twincam riley elf to finish
