One comment: The Plugin Alliance and Waves had a significantly lower output volume. I think if you balanced up the outputs, the evaluation would be more illuminating. As is, the leveling differences (even if inherent to the plugin) ultimately don't make for a perfect head to head comparison.
Yea I actually thought about that after I had made the video and watched it, this is my 2nd review video. Throwing things against the wall, seeing what sticks and learning along the way
@@RichViewMultimedia thanks for the video! would love to see a follow-up with the levels matched and 'chout' engaged on the waves. to hear the real difference
@@RichViewMultimedia Uad modelled the preamp while plugin alliance didn't hence that's why the uad has more color also to remediate that you can load softube harmonics and use the solid type and use as the preamp as it is emulating the preamp section of an ssl console.
I have 9 SSL emulations and although the Waves SSL isn't as 3 dimensional as others it still is competitive in other areas like the compressor and sheen which very few emulations get right. For example, the bx_SSL's are more 3 dimensional and analog sounding but in no way are the compressors as close to a real SSL as Waves. If you want more 3D in Waves go with CLA MixHub. I also have the SSL Native original and the new update both are great and seem to be more accurate to me than the UAD. Full disclosure I don't own UAD but the demos I've heard seems a bit bright but still really good.
Yeah, and listening in my studio monitors and in the car, The UAD SSL gives a more solid sound than the waves, but I had a good friend tell me the new update from the SSL Native is really nice, I'll have to look into getting that asap!
I used to do alot of summing mixing and some recording on an SSL 4000 Console, and honestly, It's just so hard to come close with plugins, something about the hands on with the ears, makes it such a more smooth and pleasant experience. I may look into getting an SSL X Logic EQ. I've heard so much good from so many respected engineer friends about the rack unit
You say you can't have the pre/eq before the compressor? Not sure what you are trying to say there "Pre or Eq?" Yes, you can have the EQ before the compressor on the Waves SSL... just click on the channel out button.
YESSUH BRO! I have to actually sit down to watch this. Man, this looks interesting.
Do it again with volume matched plugins. Volume will always fool your ears
I’m actually going to do a round 2 and do a gain match, and I think I’m gonna purchase the native wave version 2 to add in.. thanks Oscar!

@@RichViewMultimedia Agreed with hands-on experience. I need another EQ like a hole in my head but I to would like to look into SSL X Logic EQ
Bro I highly recommend the maag Eq4m it works great with vocals but on the final mix that air band is glorious

Ok I wasn't sure that was it. I had a friend tell me that today as well. Thanks Pat
