Versys 650 broken down again, fueling issue

  • During this very hot week I was on my commute home and the Versys 650 just cut out on me and wouldn't restart. I suspect there is a fueling issue as easy start on the air intake lets the bike start. I did try to check for vapour lock but that seemed fine. The only odd thing was the fuel pump priming for only 1 second rather than the normal three.

I would still lean towards vapor lock I'll include a vid, it's a Harley but gives you an idea of things to look at. You could try to insulate your fuel line from motor heat. As far as the time it takes for the fuel pump to prime would also depend on how much pressure is still in the system, after setting for some time it will bleed off th-cam.com/video/itmsFcvB2PA/w-d-xo.html Hope this helps and good luck, I know ya'll aren't use to that heat, we're at 105F here in Texas but that's fairly normal

I tested priming and starting with the fuel cap off and it was still the same. I figure that should exclude vapour lock from the symptoms but I’m happy to be wrong. I’ll give the video a watch.

@@nogaragerequired If you tried to start it after it died with the gas cap open that shouldn't help, if it's in vapor lock state the fuel in the lines will have pretty much turned to bubbles and will return solid after it cools, When it dies on you right then open the gas cap and see if it's under pressure, like the video. Also higher grade gas lessens the chance for vapor lock. It's more apt to happen when it's hot out, motor is hot and driving slow with frequent stops, lack of air flow around the engine

      4500 kms on new 23 Versys …it’s a warm running bike , I run premium fuel …no ethanol .
