Great video! It's nice to hear toms that actually have tone in a worship setting and arent just triggered. Love it!
Thank you so much! Appreciate your kind words
One of the main reasons drummers don’t have success with a Tune Bot is they don’t use the filter feature. Definitely use the filter for best results. Also, dampen the head between hits for more accurate lug to lug results. Allowing the tone to continue as you tap at the next lug could give a false reading. One potential downside to tuning for max resonance is that it generally means your batter will be tuned higher than it would be using a lower resonance setting. I like my floor toms to be softer under the stick. Did I mention to always use the Filter Button??!? 😅
Couldn’t agree more! The filter feature is awesome. Great call out!
What do you mean when you say use the filter button? I have the tune bot gig version, so where is the filter feature on this one? Thanks for your help.
@@ChrisHunterSavesTheDay Jey Chris. The Tune Bot Gig uses the same button for multiple functions. Start the process like normal ring the tension rods to the desired frequency. Once the first rod hits the goal number, hit the button to switch to filter mode. It will lock in the number you chose and then as you tune subsequent rods, it gives you the +/- compared to the target. This also filters out confusing harmonics. Have fun!
Thanks. I just started using my tune bot. Good to hear about it. I will try those pointers.
Excellent points made. I could not find the filter feature, but I waited about 30 seconds to a minute before tapping each lug on my top head after turning off my tune bot and then turning it back on. On my top head I am consistently between 165 and 169 when I tap the closest I can beside each lug. I am not fine tuning anymore because I am close enough to the target sound.
Brother you are the best im gonna have my drums set up tuned really great with these tips and tunes. Thank you so much! i did a comment in one of your reels you are awesome. God bless you a lot !! Regards from Argentina
You are more than welcome so glad to help you
On my 12 inch i am at 207 htz on the top head for my Yamaha Stage custom birch tom so far.
Nice video. Love the raw audio near the end. Top job.
@@garethplaysdrums thank you! 😊
Tried these tunings and I love them! The toms sound phenomenal! Thanks Ryan! Also did my snare at 302/400. I’m stoked!
I’m so glad to hear it!! Thanks for using them
You are a life saver. This is so much better than what the tune bot calculator was giving me!!
Happy to help! When it comes to tuning the times, you kind of have to get your hands dirty, it just takes some time to dial in the sound that you specifically want! So glad that this video helped you
I want to leave it for now and see what it sounds like once I place it back on the mount tomorrow at church.
I am at 160 htz on my top head for my 12 inch tom on my Yamaha Stage custom birch. I just put in my Remo emperor clear heads. Should I still get that deep fat sound I am looking for if I am at 160 htz, which is a little lower than 165?
I am so close to that 217 on the bottom head. This is my first time ever actually doing this. I don't have sticks on me. I am just using my fingers at the sides of each lug to tap for notes. Is that still accurate using a tune bot. At each lug I am between 214 and 218 for the bottom head and 160 htz on the top head.
Hi what is the top and botom 10” Tom and floor drum batter and reso?
Fundamental:
C (3rd Octave)
Top Lug:
196 Hz
Bottom Lug:
258 Hz
I got pearl roadshow 14' Snare, 10' & 12' Rack toms,16' Floor Tom, 22' Bass. What would you recommend sir? Thanks.
Hi Ray! Thank you for watching!
For the snare drum I would do this
235 hz top lugs / 400hz bottom lugs
10 A Top and Bottom Lugs 189 hz
12 E Top and Bottom Lugs 142 hz
16 B Top and Bottom Lugs 106 hz
@@Theryanprimdo the top and bottom lugs have the same Hz for the toms ? I have the same drum set and am using the tune bot Studio
Great video, i have a 2 rack 2 floor Ludwig kit setup and the tune bot looks like an excellent investment, definitely want to pick up one soon, appreciate your video 🥁
I've since my last comment bought the tunebot and I am gonna try out interval tunings like this, I've not used it much yet because I tune by ear but this time I want to try specific intervals thanks for this video!
Hey brother I had your recommended configuration for my PDP Concept Maple . My set up is 8 , 10 , 12 ,14 and 16 toms with a Pearl Maple Freefloat snare drum. Could you please share your recommended your configuration for this set up. I have to tune my kit before October 27th 2023 for our church event An Evening With Mother Mary . If you can help out it would be greatly appreciated. Our church is big seats up to 800 people .
I need to reset and save the configuration on my tunebot app.
I would download the Tunebot app and put in all of those drum sizes and it will tell you how to tune all of them
At least you're using a Tunebot! There IS no substitute! You neglected to show the fundamental note after the lugs were done, unless I missed it. The app settings are only an approximation, as I'm sure you know, and the final numbers vary slightly based on your own individual drum size and head choices.
The fundamental note is in the description.
What would you use on a 13 and 16? Kick is a 24 if that matters.
13 top and bottom lugs 159hz F#
16 too and bottom lugs 106hz B
Hi Brother, Greetings from Sri Lanka. I've been Tuning my kit for the church according to your settings, and got to say, man I love its tone and feel. Can you Kindly tell me your Settings for your Snare also I have a 13-inch rack tom. What Settings would you suggest to me for that??
Thank You in Advance
That’s so cool! Be sure to check out the brand new snare tuning video that I just published. Here are the settings for my 13 inch rack Tom top 163hz
Bottom 174hz
@@Theryanprim Thank You brother…. God bless you… May the Lord strengthen you to keep serving our Lord Jesus Christ….
Hi Ryan. If I’m using 2 rack Tom’s, 10 and 12 with the 12 tuned to 165/217, what would I tune the 10 inch tom to? I love these tunings. Thanks.
Sounds Great!
I don’t have a tune-bot so I’ll have to memorize the sound with my ears
Thanks so much! Yes, you can always listen to the video when I’m showing the result of the tunings
Why doesnt my tuner show the high numbers like your does? I also have 12” and 16” toms
I always double check my batteries
Also turning it off and on helps a lot, it could be that you may have tuned it too high
@@Theryanprim thanks
Evans makes uv2 tom heads they are amazing tune up easy and last try them some day
I’ve heard nothing but good things about them!
Fantastic sounding toms. What numbers would you tune an 18” floor tom, if you were to incorporate it into the tuning of the two toms you just showed us? Thanks!
You can't tune an 18 much lower than a 16. I have an 18x19 floor tom at ~G/G# (50Hz fundamental) which i get by 70Hz on Top and 110 on bottom. I haven't had any luck tuning both heads to the same frequency. It still has good resonance, so maybe still try that tuning. Assuming you have an 18x16 or shallower, you might get better results. If you want to tune them to the same frequency, the tunebot app says 84 on both heads for G and 89 for G#.
So you'd have to tune up your 16, maybe to C or C# (5 semitones higher) or even D or D# (7 semitones) to get that good separation which is important with such low notes.
I have a 10”, 13”, and a 14” Toms. What would you recommend
Quels réglages utilisez-vous ?
They are both in the video and description
my drum set consists of 12 13 16 18. how should i tune? Play rock and metal
Hi Mario!
Try these settings!
12 G# Top and Bottom Lugs 179 hz
13 E Top and Bottom Lugs 142 hz
16 C Top and Bottom Lugs 112 hz
18 G# Top and Bottom Lugs 89 hz
@@Theryanprim thanks for the settings. I play top Remo Emperor and bottom Remo Ambassador.
My Bassdrum Sonor 22x17/5 with Remo Powerstroke 3 Batter 70Hz Bottom 92Hz. Sounds good, but do you have another tip?
Hey Ryan, I tried this HZ since I have a 10,12,13,16 configuration. The thing though is I’m not liking what the 13 tom is set at bc it makes it sound more like a 14 floor tom and the 12 is just like a little higher rack tom. I want the 13 to be the main rack tom sound where when I go to the 16, it should sound good. Do you have another HZ setting recommendation for that?
Basically I don’t like my 13 sounding that low. Would I shoot it up to like a 155hz both top and bottom? 12 tom would be at around 185-190?
Hello, Which should be the tunning for 10 inch tom like if this video had a 10 inch tom?
Thanks!
Would be happy to help!
236hz top lugs
246 bottom lugs
@@Theryanprim thanks for your fast response! Blessings!
10/12/16 setup for toms. Recs for tuning settings w/ tunebot? Thank you
Are the tunings you recommend good for heavy rock/alt stuff? I want some powerful toms that have some 'thunk' and cut through loud guitars (think like nirvana/alice in chains style stuff)
Yeah I would recommend these tunings for that genre too!
What do you recommend for 10” 12” and 14” toms I love the sounds really much
Hi! I would suggest these settings:
10 A 189hz top and bottom lugs
12 F# 159hz top and bottom lugs
14 D 126hz top and bottom lugs
Blessings in which notes can I tune a pearl export snare 14 tom 12 tom 13 floor tom 16 and bass drum 22 in worship?
250 hz top lugs on snare and one moon gel
400 hz bottom lugs on snare
12 Tom 169 hz top and botto lugs
13 Tom 134 hz top and bottom lugs
16 Tom 106 hz top and bottom lugs
22 batter lug 66 hz
22 reso lugs 76 hz
In the case of tom and floor tom on both sides the Hz are the same?
@@deyvibaquinofernandez8834 yes they are the same
I have a 12/14/16 setup. Considering perfect fourths between the toms, do you have a preferred top/bottom interval or tuning with Tunebot? Thanks!
Try these out and use a moon gel on each batter head

@@Theryanprim Thanks! They sound a little choked compared to what the Mapex can handle. I'm wondering if I need to do 2-3 semitones lower.
@@msgdob86 yeah I would lower all drums but 2 semitones and it should be sounding really nice and thuddy for you!
Those toms in the intro video sound uniquely dry and beefy. Nice!
Glad you like them!
If you don’t know notes but you know the sound you want is this tool still useful?
Absolutely! It’s all about dialing in the frequency regardless of the notes, you can learn which numbers you like the most
Drums sound great. I have 13,16,18. What would you recommend for this?
Thanks so much!! Here’s what I would recommend for those sizes

13" E (2nd Octave) 142Hz top and bottom lugs

wtf? thats not an A! A is 55hz, 110hz, 220hz, 440hz and so on. can somebody explain why the app shows 95hz? 95hz is between f# and g...
95hrz is the lug readings then hit center of drum to get fundamental note which should equal A
hey man do u think i could tune my 13 inch tom with the same settings as the 12 inch
