The fact that this season is so good can be boiled down to the fact that Korra, Asami, Mako and Bolin finally feel like actual friends. We get them hanging out and we *finally* get rid of the love triangle, and Asami and Korra's friendship becomes one of the best aspects of the season. It's not the only reason the season is so amazing, but it's definitely one of them.
Yeah especially Korra and Asami. It's so refreshing to see 2 women who had a relationship with the same guy actually being best friends instead of making them catfight everytime they are in the same room. SPOILERS!!!!! And it makes their eventual romance even more wholesome and believable. They both complement each other but also have things they help each other inprove on. They talk, they open up to each other, they laugh together, they want to be there for each other when they are both in a very difficult situation, it's just beautiful. I love their relationship so much.💙❤️
And the fact that they make bolin and asami looks more like a friend with that paisho scene rather than just mako's brother and mako's ex-girlfriend relationship
I love that the way that Bumi shows everyone he can airbend is the same way King Bumi got Aang to reveal himself after he got to Omashu for the first time.
They made the show inclusive without forcing it. That's a thing a lot of modern netflix shows can learn about. In most modern shows it feels they follow a checklist to include all genders, sexualties and racial backgrounds. These shows have a lot of strong female characters, people with physical disabilities and psychological problems. And villains with different ideologies that actually make sense, instead of wanting to rule the world or destroy the world because they want to.

But what bothers me is if a netflix show has a classroom of highschool kids with 1 blond girl, 1 brunette, 1 dark haired, 1 gay guy, 1 gay girl, 2 trans people, 1 blond guy, 1 brunette guy, 1 dark haired guy, 1 light skin girl and boy, 1 dark skin girl and boy, 1 asian boy/girl, 1 bisexual, 1 guy/girl with a physical disability and 1 guy/girl with mental problems. Like they have a checklist for the show to make sure they dont forget someone that could sue them for not being inclusive enough. That makes a show unrealistic for me, because in the "real world" not every classroom or company checks every box. But everyone respects everyone and there is nothing wrong. If they made a netflix show about my company it would have been cancelled, because the company is sexist for only hiring 2 women and racist for only employing 2 black males.

@@TimothyGodmy biggest problem with Zaheer is the whole “instant air bending master” part. If zaheer was good like Kai but not top tier then I’d be okay with it. My guy gets air bending and instantly is as good as a master. That literally makes no sense with relation to the show. I can work out all day every day. Focus on earth bending ideology, but if I ever get earth bending there is zero way I’ll instantly know how to use it. It’s totally fine if you’re able to suspend your belief long enough and accept it but for me it didn’t work. It was made even worse for me when he achieved is next power upgrade later in the show because it’s something we’ve never even seen Aang do and he was an air bending master at the start of the series. For me it’s always gonna be Amon > Zaheer specifically for that
The animation of Ming-Hua drilling into the prison is probably my favorite sequence from the entire series. Even though bloodbending is OP she was definitely the most entertaining waterbender, at least imo.
Yeah to me Ming-Hua is the BEST waterbending. Bloodbending is so op that its boring and is really limiting on fight scenes. Instead with Ming-Hua we get to see some really creative fun and dynamic water bending usage. MAYBE if instead of making bloodbending so op in S1 they could've made it so they could only do full body bending during a full moon, and meanwhile just minor 1 second movements to enemies outside of a full moon. Then it could've actually been entertaining

@@Ghilannugsi think the writers having Katara deem it illegal, just scraps the whole "limiting the fight scenes". and giving it to the villain increases tension. the users would only have to use it as a last resort, (Tarlokk to maintain his political image and not have a member of the council be a bloodbender) and a more interesting way to have an anti-bending revolution leader be a bloodbender who wants to keep his bending a secret. and on the tension aspect, as we (or i, i should say) are watching the fight we have to keep watching in order to see whether or not the bloodbender is gonna use his bloodbending, and when they do the tension doubles because we don't know what they'll do to the characters we care about who they've bloodbent. and that's what makes bloodbending not reliant on the moon with Tarlokk and Amon work really well for me.
It always makes me so happy seeing airbending return, I keep thinking of Aang and how hard it was for him to discover that his entire people and culture had been erased from the world. All this pain and loneliness yet the world began anew for the airbenders and it's so beautiful, I loooove Tenzin's scene with his kids 🥲💕
The thing with Zaheer is that he was already a really skilled and dangerous martial artist, so being able to pick up air bending so quick makes sense imo. Especially with each bending style being based off different martial arts.
Yeah some people seem to forget there is a reason they locked him in a prison on top of a mountain. And bring him food with 5 people. Not only is he a dangerous martial artist, he has also studied airbending techniques and history for years. So he knows all the techniques in theory, all he needed to do was practice them in his prison a few times

Korra & Zuko were impulsive, had short fuses, powerful benders, don’t want help, instrumental in fostering peace, had a wise mentor to keep them in line, cut their hair to signify change, and nearly died but saved by allies.

Fun Fact: Ming Hua, the waterbender of Zaheer's team, has no arms. She uses her disability as an advantage when it comes to having a connection and understanding of her element, like Toph did, making her insanely deadly and dangerous. Also, the Earth Queen is the daughter of the Earth King that we saw in Aang and Zuko's time, the one who had Bosco, the Bear.
Finally, we're in this book now. I'm so excited for the episodes to come. Zaheer is my fav avatar villain out of the four. Also, the dynamics of team avatar is pretty amazing
You knew Zaheer was going to be a problem. He was imprisoned like a final boss without any powers; which means he was probably a dangerous fighter just based on his moves he combined with his new air powers.
So happy for Bummi he finally gets to be a bender and Bolin is the best character imo. That Ashmi and Korra driving moment reminds me of teaching my niece how to drive it’ll be fine and being so scared
If you’re wondering how Zaheer learned airbending so quickly, I always saw it as he taught himself all the airbending teachings and airbending as a regular fighting style (it is based on Ba Gua) he just didn’t have the actual bending to go along with all of his knowledge and skills.
I love the distinction that she show is quick to make here, that the culture of the Air Nomads is _not_ part and parcel with the ability to airbend. It's an important point to make because _of course_ Tenzin would make the assumption that one equals the other. Also, that driving scene in ep. 1 shows just how wonderful Korra and Asami's dynamic together is. If this weren't a Nickelodeon show from the early 2010s I could see myself shipping them.
7:16 I agree. Zaheer’s introduction tells us two things about him off the bat: 1) he is a criminal with an ideology focused on change & 2) he is very good at fighting and NOW he can airbend
Seems like the Korra uploads are coming a lot faster than ATLA, which makes me very happy! I haven't watched LoK in years but one thing I'll always remember is Bolin is the best character since episode 1 and that never stops being the case
Glad you got to Season 3. This Season and next Season are seen as the best Seasons of the show. the villains this season are amazing, each gives a way to use their element we had not seen up to that point and I love how they did that and how intimidating and insane they are. That's kinda what this whole Season is about, seeing things in ways we've never seen them before, seeing things in new, awesome, and exciting ways. I'm excited that you got to see Zuko again. I was excited when I saw him in Korra. Also, his dragon is important, him having it out in the open like that means that the dragons are no longer being hunted like they were back in the day, and it also means that Zuko is able to potentially bring the dragons back. It shows how the Fire Nation has changed since he became Fire Lord. Also, I don't recall if they have mentioned it in the show yet or not, but General Iroh from this show is Zuko's Grandson.
Honestly the Dai Li can't really be blamed for most of this. They just serve their leader, which is the queen in this case and Long Feng in ATLA. Untill they realised Long Feng had been lying to the king for a long time. Then they went back to the king. Long story short, the Dai Li are just very loyal servants without free will

She had to deal with a corrupt Earth King acting against the best interests of his kingdom and a citizens' uprising opposing him. She wanted to keep the Earth Kingdom united but also wanted to prevent the ruler from ruining things again the future, so she created an organisation meant to keep the kingdom stable and prosperous that could go over the King's head if needed. Unfortunately she didn't consider what would happen when the stability turned into stagnation.
Cool thing about Zaheer - he's constantly using VACUUM bending. Pulling people closer rather than blasting them away. All the Red Lotus are unconventional.
The DaiLi was one thing that I felt could have been so much more even in the original show. They really could have been a huge villain all by themselves but were set aside for other antagonists. When I first watched Book 2 of ATLA my thought when Azula arrived was “oh gods no, what will happen when the Fire Nation get access to mind control?” and then mind control is never touched again. I get that ATLA didn’t have time because it had other stuff to get done but Kora had all the time it needed and the DaiLi still weren’t as terrifying as they deserved to be.
Korra never hated Asami at all btw. Asami never hated Korra. They knew whose fault all the relationship stuff was. Yes... This season has one of the more loved villains in the series!
What thing I love about what the show did with the Earth Queen is that they present her as evil but she also never really does anything that is abnormal for monarchs or governments to do. She taxes and conscripts her citizens, she has lavish wealth despite her citizens living in poverty, and she demands obedience from her inferiors. It's a smart way to open the mind of the viewer to think about the the themes of statism and anarchy that the season explores.
This show has the best villains. The creators really stepped it up with this seasons antagonists and Amon was fantastic. Ofc fights quite spectacular too
I LOVE Zaheer and his introduction, especially when you see how well he already knows air bending techniques. Before he was captured, he was an adept fighter who studied the monks and their teachings (Guru Lageema being his main source of wisdom and inspiration). He’s such a formidable opponent right out the gate 😭
I’ve seen this show multiple times but only in this video did I hear that voice and immediately say to myself, that’s Napoleon Dynamite. His voice is super distinctive, I don’t know how I didn’t recognize it earlier.
This season introduces these awesome antagonists with their awesome prison escape scenes... Then it also came with 3 bottom 5 characters + enhanced the president's annoyance levels Highest highs and lowest lows in Korra
One thing I don't understand about Ming Hua's prison is how they could have kept her from sweating, because it's so hot. I feel like it would have been smarter to keep her in a regular temperature or even cold prison that's really dry to keep her from sweating, and then getting water. Maybe her body would get used to the heat and stop needing to sweat, but she would still sweat at first. And what would they do if she started crying? I get that she's a villain and I dunno, might not cry as easily, but she might be able to make herself cry. Also, they'd probably have to keep themselves at a very far distance, because maybe she could learn to bloodbend.
I wonder if it's a thing like how firebenders have issues bending when they're cold - like how in the Boiling Rock prison they would lock firebenders into coolers where they would get too chilled to bend fire.
Aaaah!! I am so excited for you to watch this season! The characters really come into their own, some really great ones are introduced, and the villains are amazing! Come to think of it, I wonder if the Dai Lee are partly based off of the Praetorian Guard (for context, they were supposed to protect the Roman Emperor - but killed quite a few for money or whatever other reasons and were eventually replaced by several other forms of guards. Like the Norse-originating Varangians.
Zaheer and crew work so well as villains cause theyre a dark mirror of the original team Avatar. All 4 elements ( now ), and a non bender ( Zaheer before the Harmonic Convergence ) Makes you want to see how good the original team Avatar was as adults
I love Ryu, the basement-dweller's mom. She's just so supportive in a specific auntie kind of way. XD Seeing the Dai Li silhouette at the end of the alleyway, ugh, chills even still. 25:20 I love how we can see them using Airbending with Earthbending movements, because they're being taught by Earthbenders. I think that's a double reason why it looks/feels so wrong. lol It's wrong cuz it's forced drafting and also mismatched martial art style. XD

18:13 When i was younger i thought that this situation was unrealistic as hell until i experienced the same 3-4 years ago .d (3-4 years ago my dad and my aunt decided to take my grandparents to the country where they were born. They were forcibly expelled from there when they were 12 or smth so we wanted to go visit there together and while visiting their old homes, we came across to our long lost relatives O_O. It was like a movie, they were just as crowded as here. They invited us to their houses too everything were pretty much the same.)
Love this season. The best villain, played by a distant relative of mine though I loved his work years before I knew the family connection. A great plot. And they finally had the budget and support they should had. May favorite parts of the franchise were the ATLA finale, all of season 3 of Korra, and the beginning and last scene of season 4. But loved the whole show.
I think this season is my favourite. The writers I feel out performed themselves with that they created story wise and character. The development of a lot of them was done well. Bolin was my favourite character when episode 1 aired and stayed that way. Happy for his journey this season. Zaheer is on par, if not above Amon for me.
The peak season has arrived!!!! Zaheer is IMO the best Avatar villain (maybe tied with Azula) and is also the season that made me look up to Korra a little bit more than I did with Aamg
It still annoys me that they had Zuko spoil the combustion bending of P'Li in that elevator scene. They had set it up perfectly to be a nice surprise by deliberately obscuring her forehead in every other scene.
Fair. The humor of Zuko & Eska having bonding moment and Tonraq trying as casually as possible to shift the conversation from killing his daughter to protecting his daughter is worth it for me lol

If you notice Zaheers airbending it's nothing like Tenzeins and Aangs, theirs is graceful and defensive mostly or his is extremely agressive and clunky his movements are him spinning but u don't see the spirals and circles you see aamg and tenzin use to get around obstacles he just spins to put more power into his strikes and he's extremely direct.
THIS is the best season of the whole franchise. They hit their stride and casted the best voice actors for the villains. Including Henry Rollins, a distant cousin of mine.
fun fact: dai lee was founded by avatar kyoshi to preserve the status quo of the earth king of the time, she personally stopped a peasant rebellion. never forget, the avatar is interested in the balance of the world not helping specific groups of people.
Tenzin definitely came on strong but to be fair to him he was literally raised to rebuild the Air Nomads, he has no frame of reference for wanting anything but that.
People forget Tenzin and Anng were the only Airbenders left!! Tenzin had so much weight on his shoulders to pass on the Knowledge he learned from his dad
I usually get a little bit of pushback when I say this, but this is my favorite book in all of Avatar. The heroes get along well, and the Villains are compelling.

While Zaheer's gf did not end up being Azula, the Waterbender Ming Hua actually has the same voice actress as Azule, Grey DeLisle
Ming-Hua being disabled made me so happy as a disabled person myself. Also Zaheer is the best villain in the series

Amon is much better imo. Stronger in his abilities, more interesting and relatable motivations, and overall a lot scarier.

Fun Fact: Ming Hua, the waterbender of Zaheer's team, has no arms. She uses her disability as an advantage when it comes to having a connection and understanding of her element, like Toph did, making her insanely deadly and dangerous.
Also, the Earth Queen is the daughter of the Earth King that we saw in Aang and Zuko's time, the one who had Bosco, the Bear.
Finally, we're in this book now. I'm so excited for the episodes to come. Zaheer is my fav avatar villain out of the four. Also, the dynamics of team avatar is pretty amazing
You knew Zaheer was going to be a problem. He was imprisoned like a final boss without any powers; which means he was probably a dangerous fighter just based on his moves he combined with his new air powers.
So happy for Bummi he finally gets to be a bender and Bolin is the best character imo. That Ashmi and Korra driving moment reminds me of teaching my niece how to drive it’ll be fine and being so scared
If you’re wondering how Zaheer learned airbending so quickly, I always saw it as he taught himself all the airbending teachings and airbending as a regular fighting style (it is based on Ba Gua) he just didn’t have the actual bending to go along with all of his knowledge and skills.
I love the distinction that she show is quick to make here, that the culture of the Air Nomads is _not_ part and parcel with the ability to airbend. It's an important point to make because _of course_ Tenzin would make the assumption that one equals the other.
Also, that driving scene in ep. 1 shows just how wonderful Korra and Asami's dynamic together is. If this weren't a Nickelodeon show from the early 2010s I could see myself shipping them.

Seems like the Korra uploads are coming a lot faster than ATLA, which makes me very happy! I haven't watched LoK in years but one thing I'll always remember is Bolin is the best character since episode 1 and that never stops being the case

the villains this season are amazing, each gives a way to use their element we had not seen up to that point and I love how they did that and how intimidating and insane they are. That's kinda what this whole Season is about, seeing things in ways we've never seen them before, seeing things in new, awesome, and exciting ways.
I'm excited that you got to see Zuko again. I was excited when I saw him in Korra. Also, his dragon is important, him having it out in the open like that means that the dragons are no longer being hunted like they were back in the day, and it also means that Zuko is able to potentially bring the dragons back. It shows how the Fire Nation has changed since he became Fire Lord.
Also, I don't recall if they have mentioned it in the show yet or not, but General Iroh from this show is Zuko's Grandson.
You know it's really heartbreaking when you find out that Avatar Kyoshi is the one who founded the Dai Li
Honestly the Dai Li can't really be blamed for most of this. They just serve their leader, which is the queen in this case and Long Feng in ATLA. Untill they realised Long Feng had been lying to the king for a long time. Then they went back to the king.
Long story short, the Dai Li are just very loyal servants without free will
@@dariodelvoije Kyoshi created the Dai Li to limit the Earth King's power, originally. She had to deal with a corrupt Earth King acting against the best interests of his kingdom and a citizens' uprising opposing him. She wanted to keep the Earth Kingdom united but also wanted to prevent the ruler from ruining things again the future, so she created an organisation meant to keep the kingdom stable and prosperous that could go over the King's head if needed. Unfortunately she didn't consider what would happen when the stability turned into stagnation.
This is the best season for me, the villain, the friendship. Everything is sooooo good. S4 is a close second one but S3 has everything for me.
Cool thing about Zaheer - he's constantly using VACUUM bending. Pulling people closer rather than blasting them away. All the Red Lotus are unconventional.

The DaiLi was one thing that I felt could have been so much more even in the original show. They really could have been a huge villain all by themselves but were set aside for other antagonists. When I first watched Book 2 of ATLA my thought when Azula arrived was “oh gods no, what will happen when the Fire Nation get access to mind control?” and then mind control is never touched again. I get that ATLA didn’t have time because it had other stuff to get done but Kora had all the time it needed and the DaiLi still weren’t as terrifying as they deserved to be.
One of the first phrases of Zuko in AtLA is "I need to capture the Avatar."

What thing I love about what the show did with the Earth Queen is that they present her as evil but she also never really does anything that is abnormal for monarchs or governments to do. She taxes and conscripts her citizens, she has lavish wealth despite her citizens living in poverty, and she demands obedience from her inferiors. It's a smart way to open the mind of the viewer to think about the the themes of statism and anarchy that the season explores.
This show has the best villains. The creators really stepped it up with this seasons antagonists and Amon was fantastic. Ofc fights quite spectacular too
I LOVE Zaheer and his introduction, especially when you see how well he already knows air bending techniques. Before he was captured, he was an adept fighter who studied the monks and their teachings (Guru Lageema being his main source of wisdom and inspiration). He’s such a formidable opponent right out the gate 😭

One thing I don't understand about Ming Hua's prison is how they could have kept her from sweating, because it's so hot. I feel like it would have been smarter to keep her in a regular temperature or even cold prison that's really dry to keep her from sweating, and then getting water. Maybe her body would get used to the heat and stop needing to sweat, but she would still sweat at first. And what would they do if she started crying? I get that she's a villain and I dunno, might not cry as easily, but she might be able to make herself cry. Also, they'd probably have to keep themselves at a very far distance, because maybe she could learn to bloodbend.
I wonder if it's a thing like how firebenders have issues bending when they're cold - like how in the Boiling Rock prison they would lock firebenders into coolers where they would get too chilled to bend fire.

Combustion bending is a very rare form of fire bending. Is very sophisticated and also very dangerous, Even a small blockage can blow up a combustion Bender's head
Season 3 is hands down the best in this series!
Come to think of it, I wonder if the Dai Lee are partly based off of the Praetorian Guard (for context, they were supposed to protect the Roman Emperor - but killed quite a few for money or whatever other reasons and were eventually replaced by several other forms of guards. Like the Norse-originating Varangians.

(3-4 years ago my dad and my aunt decided to take my grandparents to the country where they were born. They were forcibly expelled from there when they were 12 or smth so we wanted to go visit there together and while visiting their old homes, we came across to our long lost relatives O_O. It was like a movie, they were just as crowded as here. They invited us to their houses too everything were pretty much the same.)
Love this season. The best villain, played by a distant relative of mine though I loved his work years before I knew the family connection. A great plot. And they finally had the budget and support they should had. May favorite parts of the franchise were the ATLA finale, all of season 3 of Korra, and the beginning and last scene of season 4. But loved the whole show.
There are definitely a couple breathtaking and mind blowing episodes this seasons. 👀👀

I think this season is my favourite. The writers I feel out performed themselves with that they created story wise and character. The development of a lot of them was done well. Bolin was my favourite character when episode 1 aired and stayed that way. Happy for his journey this season. Zaheer is on par, if not above Amon for me.

Zaheer is IMO the best Avatar villain (maybe tied with Azula) and is also the season that made me look up to Korra a little bit more than I did with Aamg
It still annoys me that they had Zuko spoil the combustion bending of P'Li in that elevator scene. They had set it up perfectly to be a nice surprise by deliberately obscuring her forehead in every other scene.
Fair. The humor of Zuko & Eska having bonding moment and Tonraq trying as casually as possible to shift the conversation from killing his daughter to protecting his daughter is worth it for me lol

When I'm hired to write or edit, I'm a stickler for keeping to the customer's order. Would you like a different awkward joke for Zuko to attempt to break the ice with the twins?
Admittedly, keeping to the same time allocation would put some really stiff borders on other jokes one might attempt, but I'm happy to give it a go.
If you notice Zaheers airbending it's nothing like Tenzeins and Aangs, theirs is graceful and defensive mostly or his is extremely agressive and clunky his movements are him spinning but u don't see the spirals and circles you see aamg and tenzin use to get around obstacles he just spins to put more power into his strikes and he's extremely direct.
Good eye. That clearly shows the difference between a gifted amateur (Zaheer) and a true master (Aang and Tenzin).
This season has an emotional high that gets me more than nearly any moment in OG Avatar.

THIS is the best season of the whole franchise. They hit their stride and casted the best voice actors for the villains. Including Henry Rollins, a distant cousin of mine.
Nice, my favourite LoK season, got some very nice scenes and moments. Plus the Air theme really shows that's the element of freedom.
