    I've been out of the woodworking business for many years, but you used to be able to buy down cutting jig saw blades, which leaves the good edge on the top surface which is probably what is wanted most of the time. We used to use them for sink cutouts for example.
    As I recall a down cutting blade is forcing the tool down onto the surface as it cuts rather than pulling it away like an up-cutting blade, which always seemed to make sense to me in terms of ease of use and user fatigue.
    I haven't seen them for sale recently, but it's not like I've done an exhaustive search either.

    I have a bunch of rigid tools for my home and shop and I absolutely love my rigid tools. I don't like the handheld bandsaw the best because the blade is constantly riding off track and slips out of the tool but that may just be an adjustment away from working flawlessly I just haven't taken the time to check it. I use DeWalt for my professional trade of HVAC but my home tools are a mix of rigid and a sprinkle of Ryobi tools and I love both platforms for what I do at home. Glad to see rigid coming out with new tools!

    When I first started as a diesel tech I went into home Depot with $800 to buy a 1/2-in Milwaukee and any other Milwaukee's I could afford an old lady working at home Depot saw my car asked what I was doing explained I'm buying tools for my first job as a diesel technician and she pointed me that erection of rigid and I ended up walking out with five or six tools instead of just two and never looked back rigid for the win

    The service plan sounds nice. I had to send my Bosch Random Oribital Sander back, cause it was just past the 90 day return at Lowes. They've had it for over a month now with no ETA on when it'll be fixed. Everytime I contact them, they say they are waiting for parts to fix it. I have 2 projects sitting around waiting on being sanded.

    I was a RIGID fanboy but when I had to rebuild I went with SKIL for two reasons. First price, RIGID just cost more, I got better deals with SKIL and I was on a budget, still am. Also I loved LSA but I no longer have a service center within 90 miles of me. I heard can ship them but again cost $$ where as before I could just drop them 20 miles from my house. The RIGID router is on my list as I loved the old one both corded and cordless. I picked up two budget corded trim routers and they work but some things about those RIGID one's I just liked better except the switch.. which RIGID fixed in this latest model!!
    Another great video and I may one day be back in the RIGID line but for now SKIL is working out for me. I have two RIGID batteries just no tools, so it makes sense to jump back in one day soon.

    • @4321Woodworking

      Do you know if the shipping to LSA is free or do I pay shipping to them, they fix or replace tool and ship it back on their dime? I'm sure I can look into this as well but curious if you had looked at how that worked at all. This would be the kicker to get me back into RIGID probably.

    • @DKWalser
      @DKWalser 5 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +2

      There is no cost to using Ridgid's LSA to get a tool repaired. You notify Ridgid that your tool needs repair and they send you a shipping label by email. Just box the tool up and drop it off at a FedEx service center. (Most Walgreens have a FedEx office inside the store.) Within two weeks, your newly repaired tool should arrive at your door. Ridgid pays the shipping both ways.

    There is a great deal right now for the sander and multi-tool, if you buy the 18v Max Output 4Ah battery Starter Kit you can get either tool for free, just bought myself the multi-tool this morning with this deal.
    Been looking for a deal on the multi-tool since it was launched this summer after my old multi-tool started breaking down, oscillating my hand more than the blade, and this is the best one so far. Not only do you get 2 batteries vs the one in the combo kit, it's $50 less than when the combo kit was on sale about a month and a half ago on HD daily deals when it wasn't even in stock yet.

    I've been a big fan of Ridgid for the same reason of the lifetime SA. The battery warrantee process is great, no complaints. I just recently used the new tool service process for the first time. I sent in my impact driver to be repaired. It was returned about 30% lighter in weight because they chose to send it back missing half of the housing. It even had a nice little card signed by someone who obviously didn't even look at what they were sending. Getting ahold of customer service absolutely sucked. I ended up having to go through the whole return process again. Ridgid never so much gave me the slightest apology or response to my inquiries.

    Ridgid has across the board the best tool value. The ridgid rear handle 7-1/4 has me stumped because the flex version is one of the strongest on the market. The router is nice but flex's twisting microadjust collar is nicer than milwaukee/ridgid's adjust wheel. Flex tools (although in the top tier) are beefy/heavier though so something to keep in mind. That shirt pocket effect was so good lol

    1:00 If you buy Ridgid from Direct Tools and register the item, you CAN get the warranty, but only if you buy a factory blemished product. If you buy the factory reconditioned, you only receive a one year warranty. For those who are into Ridgid or Ryobi, I recommend at least checking them out when you are in the market for a new tool, because you can sometimes get a brand new tool for half what it would cost at Home Depot, just because it's not pristine out of the box.

    Rigid is like Ryobi and Milwaukee because they're all the same company. Ryobi is budget/diyer line, rigid is the middle of the line, and Milwaukee is their pro/prosumer line. Are they the same factory? debatable, i've seen conflicting information there, but its clear they share the same R&D department

    That Rigid rear handle circular saw looks real similar to the Milwaukee 2830-20 Rear Handle Circular Saw 7-1/4". Not that that is a bad thing. If Rigid had had this rear handle about a year ago I might have an orange saw instead of a red one.
    That barrel jig saw looks really similar to the Milwaukee M18 barrel handle jigsaw too. Again, I think that's a good thing. Though a used Milwaukee may still be cheaper than the Rigid kit (since I already have a few Milwaukee batteries)

    I mainly do a lot of household and farm work. Should I invest in more rigid or Milwaukee? I bought the brushed drill set from Milwaukee on sale a while ago for 150 with 2 1.5 amp. But I’m liking rigid for the cheaper price without sacrificing durability or functionality. I do plan on going into the trades, but a heavy equipment owner/operator. I’m thinking like rigid/milwaukee m12 is my best combo. But any recommendations?

    Sorry I can’t get back into ridgid after they abandoned too many cordless lines for me. First I got the 12v stuff and they stopped developing for that platform. Then I got some of the octane stuff and they gave up on that too. That move by them really rubbed me the wrong way. I’ve also had bad experiences with the lifetime service agreement. The shop vacs and plumbing hand tools I’ll stick with but “that’s a no from me dog” on the cordless tools.

    I bought a Ridgid 24V Hammer Drill quite a few years ago now. I paid $500 for the drill !! but it was supposed to have a Lifetime warranty on the batteries. But when my batteries died after a year or two of use, not only did they not warranty it, they didn't even have batteries to sell me. I spent so much time talking to people, what a waste of time. The drill was a beast when it worked, too bad it didn't last long. That was a huge loss and left a bitter taste.

    I've had horrible Lifetime Warranty issues from Ridgid. Once, I registered my purchase, but they said I didn't register for the lifetime warranty. I was dumbfounded as I asked them, why would I register the tool if I didn't want the warranty? They refused to honor it.
    Another time, they said I had to pay for the warranty repair, but then they'd refund me. They did refund me a month later, but I have never experienced this with another manufacturer.
    I've been looking at their R4251 miter saw, but there are numerous special parts to it, and I just don't know if I trust their warranty and service.

    731 Woodworks.. I like the idea of the Lifetime Service Agreement. Do you have to keep the receipt though? Receipts only stay legible for so long. I have had problems with Ryobi and Flex. If Ridgid stands behind it I might switch over. I used Ridgid on the job years ago and they were great. I've since started using Ryobi (again), Flex and Milwaukee. Haven't had any problems with Milwaukee yet. I have other woodworking brands too like WEN, SKIL, Craftsman, VEVOR, etc.
    Oh yeah it's nice to see someone who is a woodworker and actually uses the tools he shows instead of people just showing how fast a drill or impact driver will screw in screws and lags. Those tests are useless because it's not real world use and a second or two difference doesn't really mater. Most people only screw in a couple at a time not one after another all day.

    • @davidcorliss

    • @RenegadesGarage
      @RenegadesGarage ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@davidcorliss Not with Ryobi or Flex. I found that out the hard way. If you do not have the receipt they go by the serial number. In which case I purchased batteries for both brands and one (Flex) was leaking and the two from Ryobi would not charge. The one leaking I only had for maybe a year and the other two batteries only like 5 months. According to serial numbers they were almost out of the warranty period when I purchased them. So not having a receipt means no replacement. Even though one of them was registered for their lifetime warranty and the other two was registered for their three year warranty. So I guess the store let them sit on the shelf long enough for the warranty to end or the manufacturer sent them to the store knowing the warranty period was almost ended. Makes no sense why they let you register the item without having a receipt and you enter the date of purchase but it's still not good enough.
