On a bad day he could have 10 Milwaukee tools from customers in Ireland and not repair a single one even if they are 2 years old from purchase. They consistently assemble their tools (the vast majority) so that when the parts are supplied to authorised stores they cost nearly 3/4 or the full cost of a new machine as lots of single parts are grouped together for one purchase.

If they are kind, I think they will feed you the best non synthetic meats they can muster and a steady diet of all the simple fixes Makita has to offer ,plus every now and again giving you a relic from 1975 that you just so happen to have the parts for in a dusty corner of the workshop. If the however the Machines are evil, you get an eternal stream of Milwaukee . Happy Halloween 🎃
Nice, another repairathon and it's a big one! The 2:38:24 guard is mandatory in NL since a couple of years; if you use the grinder to cut through materials instead of deburring you have to use a double sided safety guard. They basically come with every Makita grinder here, even just the body only ones.

Have been a dewalt man for almost 10 years, thankfully none of my gear has ever shit the bed but a couple have been stolen 😢. Just watching your timely cleaning out of the jigsaw and the previous repair of a heavily used hammer drill has made realise what is missing from these professionally used power tools - an hours used timer. I worked for some long years in the TV industry. Videotape machines were fitted with hours use timers so that videotape machines could be taken out of service for routine maintenance and major services at 1000 and 3000 hours respectively. Of course there were many companies who thought that they could ignore the hours meter!

A basically brand new drill burned up being repaired for 50 euros isn't a win. A cheap DC motor killed by a bit of dust isn't a win. A 2 years old grinder with a loose motor (that will quickly fail) isn't a win. Not one but 2 jigsaws completely full of sawdust isn't a win. I'm not a clown, I just don't have tinted glasses like you.

Those slow Makita drills are awesome, but they break the handle threads out of the casing after a few grabs. We’d make a steel frame to go around the plastic body to tie it all together and fit a slightly longer pipe handle. Did my apprenticeship with those drilling thousands and thousands of 5/8” holes in logging truck chassis. Great fun. I have a DA6301 now which does most of what I want, mainly for holesawing big holes in stainless, up to like 4.5”. Cordless Hikoki does the rest.
With these corded tools with bad bearings or otherwise stiff and broken, it would be cool to see the wattage they are pulling before and after the repair.

i used to love DeFunkt when i first started with serious cordless as i had bosch before that. Now i have a mix of DeFunkt & Makita, Tbh i dont like the Makita Drills prefer the DeFunkt ones. The stuff with the dark grey castings thats brand new not the older Hitachi stuff that they have just rebadged the plastic mouldings to put Hikoki on. I was advising a scaffolder to check out the 340nm hikoki WR18DH nut gun as it's IP56 rated and the tool has a 5 year warranty if registered in a month. Do Hikoki have a regsitered service centre in the UK or Ireland? Joy to watch a couple hours of the Makita repairs - that lad with the Jigsaw cutting cement fibre board - tell him to get a corded circ saw with a 4 tooth fibre blade, as surely he would already have a cord in the form of a dust extractor hose and it was a corded jigsaw if I recall correctly. Thumbs up.

This is why i have so many Makita tools. Whatever the age you have a good chance of repairing them. Compare this to the success rate with the Dewalt or Milwaukee box of tools.

My Dear Brother Dean over the years I've seen a lot of people just not take the time to go register a tool or take advantage of a discount or a coupon and it is probably unbelievable how much they have suffered and things have cost them compared to if they would have just taken the few minutes and done it.
I think I've watched enough of Deans videos to answer you. He's not bothered about manufacturers' power claims just whether the machine is decent enough quality and can be easily repaired economically. That's why he dislikes Milwaukee. Personally I like the 12v range and have used alot of it problem free but then I haven't had to have any repaired yet. Whether you really need something that generates over 700Nm on 3/8" anvil who knows but it sounds daft but these manufacturers like an arms race.
Go watch the torque channel, he does that type of test. Most of the time its just BS claims from the manufacturers, only god knows how they came up with those numbers

The batteries have been even better manufactured than the 18v line. The tooling for the 40v line is another level up too. The bare tools and batteries are still fairly expensive but they should last lots longer than Milwaukee in terms of high power tools such as grinders, sds drill and circular saws. From what I can gather too Makita are still carrying the same ethos as their 18v line and making a lot of the parts individually available which is what Dean says they have such a massive advantage over competitors as people continually forgot to register for a 3 year warranty so repairs have a good chance of being a reasonable cost (50% less than a new machine).
@@shifty277Higher voltage is the way to go into the future, those tiny 18v/20v batteries pulls over 40 amps easily on the grinders and circular saws. Milwaukee and Bosch are the only big brands sticking to 18v. It can be done but you can't beat physics, power = volts x amps, if you want 18v tools you need to beef up their controllers, switches, motors and internal cables. There's a reason europe is 230v, they save on copper wire 😂

They have a 230mm grinder that will run on 1 normal 2amp or 3amp slim battery, insane! I'm glad Makita didn't increase the bill of materials even further with the 40v line not being a 18v/36v switching battery like Hikoki/Dewalt as they have too many batteries failing for cynical reasons. Even the likes of Husqavarna are going more than 90v for their battery cut off saws for masonry/concrete.

Partshopdirect, sparepartsworld are the same site run by powertoolcentre in Liverpool. However they charge £15 for orders over £50 for delivery to Ireland. I'd imagine Dean has a more direct route from the UK and Ireland distributor of parts for Makita Europe or Makita in Milton Keynes.
I just saw a video today on TH-cam that showed how to lock a drill bit into a drill by tightening it and the turning it back the opposite direction. My question is: Does anyone know if Metabo/Hikoki drills have the same feature? I don’t want to break it.
He uses for the most part heavy duty Bosch grease. Occasionally an SDS drill will require more liquid type stuff and he uses a big Hilti tub for that. If your a regular viewer Dean occasionally pulls the tubs/units in front of the camera with the part numbers. He buys the big 1kg units as obviously repairs can use a 1kg tub in a couple of months.
I love seeing things being fixed instead of just discarded and replaced. You do a great job.

Well put it this way, I haven't had a single 40v makita in for repair yet, and I'm a makita repair agent.

Not a fan of Milwaukee on 18v with big power circ saws and grinders pulling big amps. They have a 230mm grinder that will run on 1 normal 2amp or 3amp slim battery, insane!
I'm glad Makita didn't increase the bill of materials even further with the 40v line not being a 18v/36v switching battery like Hikoki/Dewalt as they have too many batteries failing for cynical reasons.
Even the likes of Husqavarna are going more than 90v for their battery cut off saws for masonry/concrete.

Likely from Makita directly. That's where the shop I work at in the USA gets Makita parts at least.
I work for a hardware shop, so I buy direct from a makita supplier.

Partshopdirect, sparepartsworld are the same site run by powertoolcentre in Liverpool.
However they charge £15 for orders over £50 for delivery to Ireland.
I'd imagine Dean has a more direct route from the UK and Ireland distributor of parts for Makita Europe or Makita in Milton Keynes.
I just saw a video today on TH-cam that showed how to lock a drill bit into a drill by tightening it and the turning it back the opposite direction. My question is: Does anyone know if Metabo/Hikoki drills have the same feature? I don’t want to break it.
It's not a feature, it's a common myth. Turning it back half a turn simply disengages the ratchet.
What type of grease you use ?
He uses for the most part heavy duty Bosch grease.
Occasionally an SDS drill will require more liquid type stuff and he uses a big Hilti tub for that.
If your a regular viewer Dean occasionally pulls the tubs/units in front of the camera with the part numbers. He buys the big 1kg units as obviously repairs can use a 1kg tub in a couple of months.
