  • Here's a tour of our Land Rover electric conversion kit using Tesla motor and batteries. Yes, it can tow, yes it can wade through rivers and no it doesn't leave an oil puddle on your driveway.
    With a 0-60mph of 3.5 seconds my Tesla powered Defender definitely gives the odd supercar and motorbike a surprise at the lights, and is still fantastic off road.

    Please, please, please start selling these kits to the public. ECD in the US are only interested in doing $250k builds and have no interest in doing swaps for the everyday average folk. I would love to do this conversion myself!

      I agree. I reached out to ECD and they have so many orders for special builds and won’t convert existing Defenders. Please offer the kits to other businesses in US that will. Great work and amazing product.

      Agreed… the home builder is the way of the future really. It’s incredibly wasteful to toss a rig who’s only fault it it’s power source onto the scrap heap. Better to upgrade for sure.

    Awesome!! I just lost my top end on my D110 TD5 and would love to convert, but ECD has a long backlog and are terribly expensive! I do al the work myself in my humble little shop and would hope that something comes soon if even for the in between shops who know what they are doing but may not be churning out the conversions all day long!! I've got a 2000 jeep cherokee limited that I'd love to have converted since I live in the countryside in the US, about 45 minutes from everywhere. I'd love to see it converted, especially since flooding is common out in the northwest this time of year and I loved the way your land rover just plowed through the water in your one short on your page.

      In theory, it wouldn't be too hard to adapt that to fit a D2, Just the chassis mounts to fabricate. I think they convert the Defenders to an electric handbrake working on the rear axle. The dials etc for the dash would probably be the challenge.

    • @joegodfrey549
      @joegodfrey549 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hughmarcus1 The D2 architecture is close to a P38 than a Defender, like the D1 is a classic Range Rover, so in principle two minorly different kits would cover several other production runs. The issue is though fooling all of the later ones into thinking there is an engine in it and it is running, lots of things rely on a signal saying it

    If you want more business in Australia you need to look at conversions for Toyota Hilux, LandCruiser 80 series, 100 series, 76 series and 79 series, as well as their Nissan Patrol counterparts. Those are the main 4WDs in Australia particularly in industry where the money for mass conversions is. Doing those models you also pick up most of the UAE as well.

    Build one for GM 4W and rear-drive vehicles!
    I've been told (and have seen the results) that a Rover body bolts nearly directly onto a frame of the GM K5 series (Blazer and Jimmy) trucks... I would likely be one of the first of thousands to buy an electric-conversion kit for mine.
    BTW, it might be the best 'bang for your buck' development because the K5s use the GM small block with the 700R4 transmission. This drive-train configuration has to be (by far) one of the most common here in the states, if not the world. The small block to 700R has the same mount-dimensions for nearly every GM truck and rear-wheel drive car since the late '60s through the early '00s; even the non-diesel Isuzu forward-cab commercial vehicles have used it! In other words, there are 4 decades of beloved cars and trucks here in the US, and around the world (largely owned by DIYers/shade-tree mechanics) that would all be potential clients. The modifications to your existing Rover kit should be relatively minimal considering the very similar space and power requirements.
    Long story short: very cool kit!

    Generalised kits have the most value - heapy of Landcruisers, Patrols, Hilux's, and other lighter utes globally. Most have the space to fit everything there. I bet plenty of people would sent in 3D scans to have custom mounts made up, the last thing becomes propshafts which can be made local to the installer.
