That's absolutely epic, Richard. I love how effortless and capable it is off road and how hilariously rapid it is on road, all while retaining great classic looks. The best LR in the world IMHO
Imagine in the back below the back seats where the soldiers were to sit were filled with batteries... This would be a good SF car.. go days or weeks without charging
I love how quite it is! Here in the USA, someone showed a Rivian going up a popular rock climb. All you could hear was the tires working. No engine noise at all. That made it a very different video. Love your Land Rover!
Not sure if a few made it across the pond, but I’ve got a 1963 International Harvester Scout that would be perfect for a swap. It’s original 91hp needs a proper boost.
Great to see the awesome capabilities of the EV Landy. I wish I was in Wales and could afford a conversion for my 710 Pinzgauer. Its an amazing off-roader. Keep the videos coming I'm a big fan of your work and your team.
That was really enjoyable. I admire you for taking your prized possesion and letting it show what its capable of and whats it was built for. Im sure the original fitters who assembled this may be long gone, but would be chuffed to see its reinvention as a modern EV. If your a reader and like Land Rovers , Id recommend a book called 'Earth My Friend' by Peter Townsend (ex Battle Of Britain ace, was engaged to Princess Margaret, features in The Crown tv series) . He took off in a Land Rover and drove around the world solo in the 50s, amazing story of man and machine and remote regions of the world only a land rover could reach.
Love it, not having to worry about gear selection and having instant torque off road is like having cheat codes on. Wish we could rent one of these or drive one at a Land Rover Experience centre, if you're looking to convert a more extreme off road Land Rover I'd give you mine to convert, assuming I get it back of course!
Wow this was awesome. Can you please help JLR electrify the New Defender? 🙂 It's shame they missed the boat on that. Your Defender videos so clearly demonstrate that a BEV is actually the superior option for off roading than ICE vehicles. No snorkel needed for wading, no dust filters for air intake, torque instantly available, no noise and soot spoiling the landscape, no fuzzing about with low and high range, dual shifters, etc. Keep up the good work!.
The slack in the steering is a nostalgic feature. People should experience the feeling of driving down a straight road and constantly radically needing to adjust the steering to stay in your lane. 😁🇳🇿
Time for a new steering box if you are doing that i've owned 4 in my life 2 ex mod series 3, a 90 and a 110. Only time ive had that issue was on the 110 when it needed a steering box.
Awesome job guys 👍👍👍 I am curious does this beast has a differential, can it be [b]locked? Know that some mechanical off-road vehicles have such options
Range - the question no one ever asks when it’s about ICE cars.

@@energiewender143 In all fairness, range is _very_ much on my mind when I plan a trip through the remote corners of Namibia, where I live, and drive an ICE Toyota Land Cruiser. Given how hard it is to recharge an EV across large swathes of this country, range considerations need to be at the forefront of any overland journey.
@@energiewender143 Yes they do... That's what MPG is all about. Range. But with gas you can also just throw a jerry can in the back of your jeep and you have something for when you forget to look at the fuel gauge. Can't do that with electric. Coupled with charging stations being harder to find it's not surprising that range anxiety is still a thing. When we get there people will stop fretting about it.
@@dwerg85 you can carry a couple folding solar panels though - and that technically gives you infinite range - with the only downside being charging time
Where can I get one? Noticed in your video about the packaged kit and dry run that there is a VW T25 Syncro in the background, would love to see what that can do.
Thats got to be the most reliable land rover ever
No oil leaks on your driveway

This video just makes it so obvious why electric conversion means "second life" for these cars. Great job.
for their owners as well
My guess conversion parts and labor $60k ?
@@mansaha9288 For their bank accounts not so much. It's just fancy stuff for rich people.
Yup, essentially a new car. These engines will last decades too.
'Eternal life...'
Very nice.
I love it how silent it is and you can hear all the natural sounds around you. It's so authentic
Thank you for taking that beauty off road. Mud, dirt, scratchy branches, the river.....lovely.
My favourite part was washing it out on the inside with a hose, and the nice deeper water crossing. I'm sold.

Great idea... Thats how you make sure the classics are immortal 👍
I would love to do this with my 2001 Jeep Cherokee. Classic look, should be a celebrated vintage vehicle in my opinion.
Great looking LR...!
Omg I love this.
This is the future for classic cars. Makes them new again.
Well done, just got really excited when you guys were heading to Mars.
I want this SOOOO bad. Awesome video
Your electric motor sounds like the whine of a jet engine...LOVE IT!
Wow! This has really changed my mind on Electric off roading! I want one now! 😍
oi! we need this in the colonies for our ramchargers, broncos and blazers! way larger market, perhaps shallower pockets
What a dream! I love old cars, and I love electric cars! ahah

I love how the body can barely hold on to the chassis when nailing it!!! And THUMBS OUT driving still needed. Love it!!!
Never mind the Landy body. I can barely hold on. 😆😁👍

I like the job you are doing.I hope soon Converting 4x4s will be available for everyone. And street legal.
Fully capable Landy. Water crossings...NO PROBLEM! Long live Land Rover!!!
Lindsey would be proud!Nice work Baz!
That's great. Simply explain thank you.
Awesome work I want one - love the old Landy body rattles over the sounds of the electric motor.
Bloody beautiful mate.
Just love it mate I wish I could do this with my 1988 Pajero Shogun
Awesome what can we say owned a series 3 swb and have done a lot of off road in Sth Tasmania.Very impressive.
WOW, REALLY GREAT
what a beautiful machine!! must give so much joy driving it around in those beautiful areas
Thanks😀
this is like Rivian truck :) good job amigos
What a lovely car with unique character!
Ty man for sharing your experience.
Superb, superb, superb, it’s a Landy, there is no more a capable off-roader out there 👍🏻.
I am really really impressed. That Defender is so cool.
Brilliant! Gripped! I want one.
I love what you have done. You have just made off-road driving so easy. Love the simplicity of a Landy
Thanks😀
Absolutely awesome! I would love a Land Rover Forward Control converted 😍😍
HAHA, got field plants in the frame...awesome!
Kinda terrifying in a solid axle vehicle and leaf springs...
I love it!
Series Land Rovers had leaf springs. The Defenders were a bit more modern, but not by much😆, with coil springs. 👍
Love it, how do I get one in Australia
You guys built a full 1:1 model of my Traxxas Defender???? That's AWESOME!!!!!!
This is the best channel on TH-cam. You sir are so entertaining to watch. I want one of these.
Thanks. Glad you like the channel 👍😀
Superb job and Uber quick as well. Cannot see this all rounder being beaten by anything 👍🏻
Thanks Graham 😀
Monster on wheels

At least you're using the Defender for what you built it for, off-roading!
I really really like it and I want one so much...!!!!! The best off-roading machine
Would love to see this on some sand dunes like in the Liwa desert in UAE
Me too 👍😀
you had me at sideburns
Got to get one of these.😀😎

Awesome electric Defender, Richard. Looks so fun to drive off-road. Man, we need more guys like you all over the world.

It’s gripped!! It’s sorted!!
would be nice to have something for the full size US trucks - loads of ford F250's with dead engines around here for sale XD

It has 3 ATBs, one in each axle and one in the middle, that manage the power to whichever wheel has the grip. No need for locked diffs.👍
very interesting, How much have you spent on converting to electric ?
This is awesome!! That looks so much fun!!
Superb off-roader! None better!
Brillant, y think about you converting my Class G MERCEDES.
An ex army 110 puma or wolf would be a dream car with 300-400 miles per charge 😊😊👌👌
Wow!! Once again, another superlative video, and proof that electric is the way of the future... 😎
What differences did you put in it.
Hi. How about Nissan X-Trail conversions?
Jolly good. Thank You
it is always a big pleasure to see how new life can be breathed in into such classic vehicles with help of electric power train
what about a 1986 4runner? have you done anything like that? i would love my 4Runner to be electric
What model Tesla did you use for your donor vehicle?
Oh how I want one! No real use for something that capable but I would go and find some gnarly land to try it on.
Very cool
Love it, love it, love it.. want one how do you price a kit for these or a hilux?
Brilliant! Would love to know how on-road range compares to off-road range. That steering wheel looks capable of amputating thumbs👍
