I'd address that dented oil pan, that's the main cause of spun bearings in these cars. The oil pickup tube is very close to the bottom of that pan and looking at the videos it dented in. Someone used it as a jack point at one time which is a bad ideal.
I told tj to get the VR-4 to replace the gtr after he sold it but it didn’t happen, so I love how you guys brought the car into the shop and into the spotlight again the so now legend rise again
Hey guys you are doing awesome work on the VR4. Just wanted to pass on some good feedback. i only Subbed because you were doing this VR4 and i think its super awesome. Like you said super underrated car :)
throtl I don't know you guys. That's a hefty dent. Hopefully it's at least been dropped ND the pickup tube and filter has been checked. Usually, when it's been jacked up by the oil pan, it bends enough to block a good portion of the pickuo tube because it is a tight fit in there.
I'm not trying to come off rude or disrespectful in any way and I'm not doubting your buddies legitimately as a Mishibushi tech but no tech I know Mishibushi or not would let a pan that dented slide. Regardless of the dented man it's really cool to see someone give this platform some light. I'm looking forward to future content.
I would 150% stop listening to Josh. That is NOT an okay oil pan. There is 8-10 MILLIMETERS of clearance between where the oil pickup is and where that pan normally sat. That pan is dented INTO the oil pickup. You are going to cause a spun bearing. Spend the extra $200 and get a new pan without a dent. You have hundreds of people telling you to replace the damn pan. Josh is wrong.
I came here to make the same exact comment. These things spin bearings frequently from that exact problem. It’s really a factory manual issue because they tell you to support the engine there when doing the 60k service. They are almost always dented.
Excuse me brother I had a question for you, I just replace my engine and transmission with a JDM engine and trans, we just finished and we test the engine everything sounds and looks good but I have problems with the transmission reverse gear, do you know something about this 5 gears transmission ? Thank you in advance
throtl Okay brother just looking out for you guys, if he thinks it'll be fine then finish her up and send it! I have a 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX I'm building from the ground up and I have to say watching your channel has only motivated me more for my baby. Keep up the good work guys! 👍
throtl If the pan is even slightly dented it will cause issues. The pickup tube is only a couple mm from the bottom of the pan. That car is getting starved for oil at high rpms gauranteed!
With all do respect and not to be rude, your talking about an $8 tube of rtv/silicone sealant and about an hour labor to repair that dented oil pan, that needs to be addressed asap or you are just asking for problems. The pickup for the oil pump has a very tight clearance to sump in the oil pan on these engines, even a minor dent can cause catastrophic main and rod bearing wear and even failure. I've seen way to many of these cars meet their demise from this exact issue. I know other 3/S enthusiasts are dying on the inside seeing that oil pan dented like that, just fix it and make the mitsu gods proud!
So is this an MR 6 Speed? Because if it is, it'll work with your 5 speed diff. But if it isn't then the VCS will basically eat itself and you'll end up with a FWD car..
Javier Caldera his insistence on using the buzz term "JDM" it's clear he's acquired a GTO MR 6speed transmission since his VR4 came from the factory with a standard 6 speed. I hate when people either choose to distribute incorrect information or just choose to be ignorant.
vr4...is my dream car ever after first look in thunderbolt film....i hope to own vr4...but to win i think is impossible....i m far away in malaysia....just keep dreaming..
Idk if the giveaway is done or not but would love it lol. Im actually looking for a rv4. I foumd one near me 1992 3000gt rv4 with only 26k on it any suggestions or thoughts? Its selling for 9k
Here how to make the Vip better... *MAKE IT FREE FOR EVERYONE OR JUST GIVEAWEY CARS AND STUFF TO THE WHOLE COMUNITY NOT JUST VIP* THIS IS THE BIGGEST PROBLEM THAT THIS CHANELL HAS... spliting the comunity (just battlefield/dice/ea)
Good job not even machining the flywheel. Way to spread doing things the wrong way. I'm surprised you didn't do a pad slap. Smfh... And what garbage shoo painted your mufflers?
LeRoy, we appreciate the concern and talked in depth about this with Josh. On these cars, it’s a problem to resurface the flywheel as it changes the positioning of the clutch fork and causes uneven wear and even more difficulties. The flywheel on this car is in acceptable condition and didn’t require replacement. Also, the overspray has also been removed.
throtl Causes uneven wear because of the positioning of the clutch fork.... I'm not sure that you actually know how the system works. The only thing that would change the position of the clutch fork would be the pivot ball or the slave cylinder rod. Machining the flywheel is always recommended unless there isn't enough material, then you replace it. Period.
Common reason why the flywheels don't get resurfaced is that the shops don't resurface and shave the dowel pins as well. It's why they cause issues. Nonetheless, if the flywheel looks fine, I don't see why you'd need to replace it. I haven't replaced mine and I've put 9k miles on my car, the old one looked in good condition so I didn't bother.
These cars use two step flywheels. When you machine the friction surface (as you should), you also have to machine the edge risers as well because failure to do so reduces clamping pressure. The dowels dont get machined, they're only for alignment.
Hello throttle I have been subscribed for maybe 2 or 3 months not sure how long but like all the awesome content I think the vip should be free so that more car enthusiasts would join and I want to join but I don't have the money for it I know $10 is not a big deal but it if was free I would sign up right now and recommended it to my family we have so many car we have evos Rsx civic Subaru's and more so please take in consideration to make the vip free
Sad to see the VR-4 about to go, you guys truly have done an amazing job with it, this will always be my favorite VR-4. Makes me want it so bad!
Them VR4's was before they time
I really wish you got more views, throtl’s mission is good for the car culture and it would be great to you guys achieve success
Same thing I said. So agree.
I'd address that dented oil pan, that's the main cause of spun bearings in these cars. The oil pickup tube is very close to the bottom of that pan and looking at the videos it dented in. Someone used it as a jack point at one time which is a bad ideal.
We spoke about this with josh. The oil Pan is not dented nearly enough to cause an issue. Maybe it looks worse on camera, but it is OK we promise!
I told tj to get the VR-4 to replace the gtr after he sold it but it didn’t happen, so I love how you guys brought the car into the shop and into the spotlight again the so now legend rise again
This thing is going to be soooo nice for whoever wins it, keeping my fingers crossed for myself still!
Will you be making a full engine rebuild video when you spin a rod bearing from that huge dent in that oil pan?
For the love of God fix the oil pan dent. You'll give this away and it'll blow up
I jus got a 91 3000gt vr4 tt and I was wondering will the 6 speed thats in the later models direct bolt up to the early models like my 91
I have a 08 350z. But im thinking about getting a 3000gt off craigslist for a project car
Hey guys you are doing awesome work on the VR4. Just wanted to pass on some good feedback. i only Subbed because you were doing this VR4 and i think its super awesome. Like you said super underrated car :)
I only subbed a month ago on the latest vr4 project lol
I know there's a shortage of oil pans and all but you should really look into getting a new one.
262ners: That delivery was excellent and I actually laughed (after reading a book on 'How to laugh')...

While draining trans oil he says "that smells good" then Josh gave out that weird off camber laugh. My type of guy.
I jus got a 91 3000gt vr4 tt and I was wondering will the 6 speed thats in the later models direct bolt up to the early models like my 91

Need more details on the video but overall informative and entertaining
Good luck guys
Dude looks like he could be Mike Finnegans brother lol
Whoever wins this make sure you replace the oil pan asap! That's a spin bearing ticking timebomb!

Beau Browning correct. I forgot the correct term but I remember speaking to my buddy about it a while ago
😍
Hey, I sent a message like you said but you never replied back. :/ It wasn't spam just told my story. Lol Sorry if it seemed that way.

There would be no point in VIP if it wasn't paid for. Just cough up the money if you want VIP so badly, otherwise just use Throtl.com without it.
