Can’t think of anyone more deserving than Thundercat for a signature model but this is probably more instrument than most can handle especially the midi. Anyone that can go from Kendrick, Kamasi Washington to Suicidal Tendencies and playing with Michael McDonald and Kenny Loggins on his solo project is a legend in the making.
louderthangod yeah this thing is a monster but if I could afford one... I would buy in a heartbeat LOL but it's Bass been out for a pretty long time I'm pretty happy that they actually decided to review this... Even though this was more of a comedy review than it was anything else
Yeah, and it’s way too expensive to just go all in and mod it to be your own like I would think to do with something already as crazy as this. Maybe I’ll have to custom order a full thickness, full hollow, arch top 6 string bass and get some funky different electronics too

I think this is the only 6 string bass I like because 1) It's thundercat's who really uses all the extra strings and 2) It looks (and kind of played) like a big guitar and not a frankenstein monster of a bass.
Why is everyone so triggered by this bass? It's made for a funk god, not for us measly humans. Stephen made this bass to reflect his unique style and this just works for him. Tbh it's kinda weird for a normal person, but thundercat ain't normal
My Ibanez 776 weighs 5kg/11lbs and I ended up buying an extra-wide leather strap to save my shoulder during long gigs. A decent strap will definitely be necessary for this beast!
In my city, the neck will move in 15 days and will look like a big C. My Yamaha SLB 300 and my Lakland 55-94 did it the same way. My luthier going to produce a new bass opposite this condition. Also my other luthier going to build a new neck for my SLB 300. I already bought a high quality ebony fingerbord. (The original one was rosewood). I live in Antalya.
There's a very audible crackle in when the piezo is engaged. Not sure if it's just so hot 5hat it's clipping the channel, or if it's within the bass or pickup itself. I want to love it but that crackle is enough to drive someone even mader than they already are. That and the 13 lb weight.
I like it... Warm sound, I like hollowbody guitars and basses... This is perfect, a bass that really does play like a guitar for cool harmonic chord riffs... Deep and full... Thanks, nice demo...
Absolutely lovely except for the price tag. Does Ibanez expect to sell a lot of these? I have 4 Ibanez basses that each cost under $300. and they are solid, good quality basses. Love em! I salute Ibanez for making affordable basses but the Thundercat is a curious exception. Give me a 50% off deal and I still couldn't afford it.
Pat Gannon Ibanez it's known for two things, very good affordable instruments and very high end custom shop work. It's easy to conflate the two because their affordable range is so good but this is definitely a high end custom and they aren't pushing these specs to mass market.

I've been waiting for this review for a long time LOL... Love Thundercat and everything that he has done. I would love to get one but it is kind of expensive but it's such a beautiful instrument
I have a Reverend guitar with that sort of electronics on it. I like the concept but that neck looks bigger than a Louisville slugger. I wonder how well it tracks since low frequencies used to have more difficulty tracking the midi.
@@ilpatongi What exactly do you think is "not very useful" about it (except its price 😂)? It is an extremely great sounding bass that gives you a huge amount of sonic possibilities. Six strings might not be for everybody, but they have earned their place.
@@SquareWaveSymphonies Not my cup of tea, that's all. Sound horrible, looks kinda bad, insanely uncomfortable for normally sized hands (the string spacing is also enormous). I would never consider it as even a part of my collection to be honest.

To be fair, Ibanez already had the Artcore series, but still funny.

I wouldn’t want to own this cos it feels so special and unique to Thundercat that I would just feel like I’m stealing his style by playing it

Why dont you like 6 string bass in general? (And are you also a bass player?)
no, is still a bass
Its a normal 6 string, nothing about it makes it playable like a guitar, that would be a bass vi
Thundercat is a monster.
Played it at NAMM, can confirm it's a beast.
Man that bass turns anyone that plays it into an action figure
beast of an instrument for a beast of a musician
is the piezo clipping? the sound seems distorted
Seems.
thanks hero
MY pleasure Snr! But yes, it DID sound like it was a bit clipped! Flat battery in preamp perhaps, or poorly soldered wiring from the piezo bridge!
DMSProduktions or too much gain on the unit used for recording
input gain too high on active mode!!! you're clipping!!!
How can you make a video about a sound related topic and not check the sound quality. Poor form premier guitar

Thundercat is an incredible bassist.
This bass, however, doesn’t sound so great in the review.
Mjolnir Carlssen I think it’s because it’s peaking. Even his voice is peaking a little bit
Beautiful bass! But I agree, sound is not good. I do hear it peaking, but I sounds so thin.
Mjolnir Carlssen thunder cat also has a lot of pedals running when he plays
I think you can make that bass sound any way you want tbh. It’s definitely not the bass’ fault.
he just doesn’t sound good, just listen to thundercat play on it
I played this at the NAMM show!! It was heavier than my 9 string but it's very cool!!!
My hands aren't big
They're not small
They're just hands
I FELT THAT
The reason it's so rediculously pricey is because it comes stock with flats for a six string..
Easily a set of flat 6's are worth $10,000
This should not come with flats...
Elliott Jacobs why?
@Virgil Grin after jaco

Love this bass, it sounds very organic. Seems like you have to be a good player to make this bass work well.
It's absolutely massive, only that could produce a Thundercat Bassline!
Dang I need this in my life- I play exclusively on a 6 string. It’s what I started playing on, so I’m actually more comfortable on a 6 than a 4 string
My situation also :) Been playing 5s and 6s so long - a 4 banger is weird as hell to me now !! Got 2 that I haven't played in years!!!
Your piezo is buzzing ad hell. Didn’t you figured out before and even after the review?
This review manages to make a very interesting bass sound like the dullest instrument on earth.
