The best was that he hugged Jim when he was leaving, not one word just an immediate hug.
Jim and Dwight always felt like brothers. They mess with each other often but deep down they care for each other

@@andybernard4097 Not really. They tolerate each other as colleagues usually do, they acknowledged they were a great sales duo and that's about it.
It was these kind of tribulations that brought them together: in this case, it was Andy and the backstabbing. Jim eventually made Andy lose his mind and showed Michael how he was wrong about Dwight. Dwight knew, somehow, Jim was an important factor for his return to the office.
Lather, rinse, repeat tribulations and good times until true friendship.
I love how Jim seems actually concerned after Dwight hugged him
That was my takeaway. Jim knew something wrong had happened and didn't look happy about it.
Yeah, that’s my favorite part of this entire episode, that look on Jim’s face. So good.

Well they had also filmed the conversations about why Dwight really made the trip to NY, and their discussion about considering revealing their relationship. They didn't just sense the chemistry, but knew the relationship that was going on between them by actually filming them talking about it.

The look on Jim's face as Dwight walks away is very telling, he knows something is very wrong with Dwight and he's concerned

I think what I find most impressive about Dwight is his paper salesman career is essentially just a hobby. His farm has been in the family for generations, safe to say it's paid off, with little to no overhead expenses. His beet farm and Agro-tourism BnB sees some amount of success, he could totally just live out his life on the farm, but instead he is overzealous in the paper industry.
I won't lie, if I were in his shoes I would be relaxing on the farm instead of the 9-5

One scene, or scene compilation, that I loved was when after Dwight leaves Michael starts to realize how much Dwight has done for the office (watering the plants, cleaning his office and arranging his toys) and it’s not until Angela’s confession that Michael realizes that he made a terrible mistake and considers Dwight as a valuable employee at the branch. It’s odd that after all these years, they haven’t uploaded these scenes.
That hug killed me. I always knew that they never really hated each other, but that kind of just sent it home. Love Dwight.

I can't describe how adorable that hug feels to me and I can't even count the number of times I've seen this scene, so many pranks and yet he still see him as a great co-worker and a friend to whom he has to say goodbye.
I love how Dwight sees Jim as a friend when he realizes that he may not see him again.
But when they were driving back from their sales call, Dwight was making conversation with Jim about Karen.

She says that to act like she barely knows him. So as to act like there is nothing going on between them. Like she barely knows him, he's just someone she works with. She makes a similar statement in a later episode, when she goes to try to tell Michael why Dwight was in NY, and is ready to reveal they are involved before she realizes she doesn't need to for Michael to hire him back.

Dwight saved Jim from Roy in the same season and the hug at the end when he was leaving showed that they both were not brothers by blood but were brothers from heart. They use to fight a lot but deep down they loved each other. EMOTIONAL SCENE.
What's great about the hug is throughout the episode Jim and Dwight are paired together the two moments that come to mind is Jim playfully slapping Dwight across the face and pulling his car over so Dwight can hit his head on the backseat.
So after Dwight is fired and he sees Jim in the Lot, a Hug goodbye is not at all what you would expect from Dwight.
If i ever get a job, this is how I plan to quit

In the last few seconds of this video...you get some insight on how thing are: Jim instantly knows something is up when he sees Dwights face. Dwight silently hugging Jim, shows theyre indeed good friends and most importantly: Karen just smiling and totally not understanding the gravity of the situation.
Argument can be made that Pam would have realized the gravity of the situation immediately, just like Jim
