2 years later and this Superman is still my main Superman on the shelf.
I am so happy with this guy, he has a couple issues (especially not being able to look up) but he absolutely pops sitting on the shelf. The colors look so great, and he looks very powerful. Getting him with the flight stand and the trading card made getting him feel a little more special than the average $20 action figure purchase. I don't even mind the stand, the way the arm sits kinda pushes his cape back a bit to make it look like it's billowing out which I think is a good look. But yeah it doesn't give you many options. I also really enjoy how much McFarlane tries to tie the figures into the comics, making it clear exactly what each figure is drawing from. Really looking forward to seeing what else this line holds, this is just so much better than Mattel and DC Essentials and I get the feeling it's just gonna get better.

Saw it in stores. Great paint, but it's a better choice for new collectors. It's so massive that it won't fit in well with my existing lines. Even the DC Direct stuff.
Personally I like my superman being taller than my other superheroes so it doesn't bother me :P
Man, I really like the look of this figure with the head from the History of the DC Universe Superman.
Seeing it next to Essentials Wonder Woman makes me really happy. Thanks for the size comparisons and head swaps. I know that had to be a tad time consuming.

My biggest flaws of this figure is it's accessories like it has one fist hand which suppose to have two fist hands. Maybe a McFarlane Toys DC Multiverse Shazam or Black Adam will do.
He should have named the line something else if he wanted a new 7 inch scale.
I feel like he should make his figures in scale with previous multiverse figures if he was going to use the name

I think these are going to become the next DCUC. That line didn’t start out perfect either, but it produced TONS of great figures. But, I don’t see both this line and Essentials existing at same time since they are basically competing directly with each other.
Found him at Target (US) however the second I took him to the counter they couldn't sell him to me till the 19th. I completely understood and was disappointed but my wife was pissed. XD

Yeah Targets a bunch of idiots. Theyve had them in for days, told me the 12th is when they would put them out, and now all of a sudden they are locked until the 19th. They are definitely losing out on sales.
@@ComicCrossing target has horrible customer service especially the toy section. Morale is lower there than walmart its sad.
His leg popped off on me after opening and testing the stiff articulation. I popped it back on a few times but to no avail as it would just come off. I finally just broke it apart and threw it in the trash. McFarlane needs to step up quality here.
Damn that sucks but im not surprised. I usually put new dc collectible figures with stiff joints in warm water before moving. Seems like mcfarlane figs need same
I have this figure . I didn’t like the cape so I shopped on eBay and got him a wired cape . AND HE LOOKS SUPERIOR . And very grateful . Good review bro !
Just ordered this figure, only the third of my collection after the decent Black Series Kylo Ren and disappointing Justice League Superman, glad to see that this looks fantastic compared to those two and I can't wait for it to arrive.
Despite the issues is it has I'm gonna pick it up it just looks so clean

This Superman got a "barrel chest". People with severe case of pulmonary disease often get barrel chested.

I saw him at a Seattle Target the other night for $23.99. He looked incredible! I don't buy new figures too often, but man, I don't think I've ever come across a more perfect Superman! The only reason I didn't end up buying him was because the line was soooooo long! :( But I'm definitely going to get him. Great review! This made me want him so much more. :D

Great review! I love the way he scales with some of the essentials figures. (I think essentials work best if you only have a few so you can’t tell everyone has the same body). Your kitbash Wonder Woman and supergirl look great btw. Have this guy on preorder. Can’t wait to get him.
Any idea what heads he used on those 2 figures btw?
Great review Brad! I love the head/face sculpt and overall look of the figure and just wish that he came with two fist, and a cloth cape instead of plastic, but I’m still looking forward to getting it.

You know I am really torn on this figure. I love that he has a bulkier build than the DC Essentials Superman! But, the bottom edge of that upper torso is really distracting! At times, because of the shadow cast by this oddly cut edge, it looks like he has a hole in the center of his diaphram, just above his abs. Flight pose goes to DC ESSENTIALS hands down, but I actually like the wider cape and sculpted “S” on McFarlane’s Superman as well as the darker blue of his uniform. I really want to like this figure, but the lack of double jointed elbows, limited head tilt for flight poses, and that weird torso cut, and the blue ball joint for the wrists that stick out past the sleeve cuffs just kill it for me.
Jonathan Navarro my thoughts exactly. Gonna wait to see what comes out over the course of the rest of the year before I make a decision on this line.
Lamar Newton same here. I think I will defintely get the Batman who laughs because , well it’s him. Batgirl looks ok, but her face looks like a 12 year old. The Hellbat armor looks sweet!

Well said. Mine had an issue with the arm being tough to move, so be careful. I'm holding out for the Arrowverse figures. Please please I want a Tyler Hoechlin Superman. If McFarlane gets into those I'll probably exclusively collect those.

I have to say I got him as well, and he does look great in person. He looks good with the 80th anniversary Thor since he's big. I may just have to get separate shelves for different scales.
I love the oversized "S" on the chest, the best part imo. You're right the cape sucks. I gotta admit tho the legs look kinda funny to me. They look to bowed at the bottom so not feeling that.
One thing, re: scale. Your headswap stuff is great (wonder what Mezco head would look like?) but one thing I've wondered about is hands? I'm a bit miffed he doesn't have stretched out flying hands, and wondered if a 'normal' 6in scale set of hands might work or not.

Like as much as I hate to say it. The essentials Superman when standing next to the McFarlane one just looks way way way better then the McFarlane one.

The top part of the stand claw can rotate around. i was afraid to try it at 1st,but its made that way.
Firstly let me say thanks for such a detailed review, it gave all the information needed to make a decision whether or not to purchase this line. For me, the 7” scale is a killer, I have too many 6” figures to change now. It’s not something I will be collecting and,to be honest the figure has too many faults even if he’d made it in scale with DCUC, I wouldn’t have purchased it. My understanding is that he’s been given the licence to produce an adult collectible line. Obviously, for him that means, aged 18-25 years old. If you’re hoping for anything from the Golden, Silver and Bronze ages, you may have a long wait. He as good as said so in his interview with JC over at TNI where hinted at the fact that the market for such classic figures wouldn’t be large enough. I thought that was the whole idea of a niche product that would be produced in smaller numbers but at a premium price. At least I’ll be saving money going forward - despite being a DC fan, going forward I’ll be buying Marvel Legends and making my own customs to fill the gaps in my DCUC collection. Again, great review Brad, it’s just not for me.😟
I love him. A few minor qualms like the single joint elbows and no S on the cape but very minor. One question though. What is that recipe for that Supergirl? At least the head. Would love more custom kitbashes featuring figures other than The Worlds Finest.
Yes! Please tell! There are not enough quality female figures. (Don’t get me started on articulation!). The body looks like the DC Essentials Supergirl but what did you do for the head? She looks awesome!

Hey Brad, what flight stands do you recommend for Essentials/Icons/McFarlane's? I bought some DC branded stands, but my Essentials Cyborg Superman (and other figures in that weight/size range) are too heavy. The stand with my McF Supes is a bit wobbly too. What should I be looking at?

Look at his leg and compare it to other DC figures, for the love of God, his leg is the same size as Supergirl and I wonder how Todd let this one pass?

I actually really like solid sculpted capes. The neck area does bother me though.
I'd also say, though, that when they do sculpted capes, I think they should include two. Maybe one sculpt "standing" and another sculpt "flying"
I'm honestly shocked at the quality of the articulation on the line.
I like how you display him with darkseid and doomsday I looks nice.
Just found this in store when I wasn't looking, really cheap too,but mine doesn't have that bit of hair hanging down the forehead for some reason.
Gotta be honest, don't like that they changed the scale for Multiverse. 7 inch figures aren't bad, but I'm still upset that they replaced a 6 inch line with a 7 inch line.

Brad, have you discovered that the floating butterfly pieces are installed backwards? It’s on all figures that I’ve had and have seen reviewed. You have to pop out the arms at the shoulder, it pops out easily but heat will help. Flip the floating piece. Put arm back in. I haven’t seen any reviewer figure this out. It closed the gap around the shoulders and makes the range of movement better at the butterfly joints. If you try it and agree then you should do a video. Like I said, no one has pointed it out yet.
I agree with this. It really improve the overall look of the figure. Can be seen easily if compared to the 2 pack superman with the devastator since that one the install the butterfly pieces the correct way.
Flight stand is very cool. Whish more of that in every figure
The lack of a double elbow is probably the only big gripe I have, and even then, Bats has it, and he's probably someone who needs it more than Supes does. Also wish it could look up more, and I'd like a cloth cape more than a solid one, but I think for 20 bucks USD, this is pretty damn great.

I finally tracked this guy down at TRU today for $24.99, well worth it for sure. A perfect fit for the Superman hole in my 7” figures.
When you do the nightwing, please compare it with that of DC icons in depth because they are apparently the same. Please.

Not going to lie, I'm mainly awaiting your review of the Batman Who Laughs, but this was a cool view to tide me over.
PS, the flight stand isn't great, but if you factor in that it can grip a thigh as well as the waist, it's a tad more versatile than you showed. But yes, it's be nice if it had more pivot points.

Here's what I do with my action figures now. If it's a male character I'll get a mcfarlane action figure. And if it's a female character I'll get a Mattel figure. The height just works better for me I think.
i am not in love with these but honestly they are miles better than what Mattel was doing

I love it.
I absolutely LOVE this Superman figure, he's not perfect but he's definitely a huge upgrade from anything that Mattel gave us, don't get me wrong. I did enjoy the Mattel superman figures but we really needed an upgrade and WOW! what an upgrade this figure is, I'm so happy with this figure, I love him and I'm so happy I got him. I'm only having one issue, I can't move the butterfly shoulders very well, I tried heating them up but that didn't do anything, am I the only one that's having this issue?
I so miss the yellow shield on the cape...
Man I think it's a lot better your right I should have looked at it closer only problem is that the torso ain't that usefull also still worried for the batman
I really have mixed feelings on this one... I payed 35$ due to shipping costs to Europe form US and I'm kinda underwhelmed. I like the head sculpt (looks like a man not a boy, stoic, chiseled and i got one that is precisely painted), the S shield (it stands out, its big and i like the metallic paint on it - though mine has a bit of a color smudge on the bottom spike of the symbol(noticeable if you really look at it)), the trunks, bulky build but the skinny legs, over-sized ball-joints in the wrists and ankles, trigger finger hand, the cape is too big for my taste (but to be fair on that image the cape could be any length it looks long even there). I don't know, it could have been better with slight improvements. Ill probably keep him till something better is available... it was almost there but failed for me.
P.S. mafex are not an option for me because it would cost me 150$ per figure
I like that the figure has a wider body buck compared to the DC Essential s figure

The wrist pegs not matching the flesh tone of Supes hands is a disappointment and including a trigger hand instead of another fist, leaves me scratching my head. I hope that we progressively see a different look and better articulation for these DC figures as the year goes by.
This is way better than DC essentials. Um excuse me, but are the joints as stiff and tight as the essentials one? I own the essentials since 2 years still it's so tight
Brad I see you do a lot of head swaps. I really want a long haired Superman. Do you think or know if the DCUC long hair Superman head could and would look good on this body?
I still think he, the figure looks cool!!! Its based on issue 1000 so he didn't have a S on the cape.

Do you find that these look a lot better in hand? I'm super happy with mine and now I have high hopes that we will finally get a 1/12 ish scale DC line to collect that is ACTUALLY GOOD!
Great review. I see that the ankles looks exactly like the DC Essentials, are the articulations (ankles) just as bad as the Essentials are?
They are still a little annoying to pose but they are quite a bit sturdier than Essentials, at least with this figure (only one I have so far)
