It has officially been listed officially as the best Rock Performance in history. He was told not to do it by his doctor as he had a bad throat and it could have do e damage, but he went out anyway, everyone behind the stage realised Queen just did the impossible and stole the Concert if the Century, making artists coming to follow a little more nervous, it was not a Queen Audience so they had no idea how they would be received, they had been on hiatus for a few years so they weren't sure, but they rehearsed their set, something most bands didn't do, they wanted their performance to matter and truly entertain the planet.

Once you 'Get' Queen...They become part of your soul and mental wallpaper. Although now in this 21st century there is so much mystique surrounding Queen, and particularly Freddie's legendary status...We who were privileged to see Queen perform live, knew instinctively that we were witnessing inimitable greatness. I was so very fortunate to attend several of their concerts in different parts of the world in the mid 80's...This band were the perfect storm, and Freddie was the God with pockets full of fairy dust, who ensured each and every ticket holder experienced the absolute time of their lives. Dear Freddie showed us inside his heart...and we will love him forever for it.

@@BobBradford Yeah, Freddie had that x factor along with his incredible vocal range. You just don't see stage presence like that anymore.

I love some of the little moments during this show. In Radio GaGa, the girl pumping her fists and singing the lyrics "who just don't know or just don't care" is such an awesome moment. She's a Queen fan. She's having a life-altering moment. During Hammer to Fall, Freddie gets tangled in the microphone line and shouts out the engineer that helps him get untangled. You can also see the waves of people pumping their fists during multiple moments of the show just washing over the entire crowd like it was a single, living entity. I like to watch Queen concerts while I'm on the treadmill so I have seen many of them hundreds of times each and they NEVER get old or any less exciting. This particular video has different audio levels that I don't care for. There are quite a few better copies out there with more balanced and cleaned up, unified sound.

Freddie sounded this amazing after having laryngitis the week before.Paul Gambaccini, who was part of the BBC broadcasting team at Live Aid, recalled the awe among other superstar musicians watching backstage. “Everybody realized that Queen was stealing the show,” said Gambaccini. These were the very words Elton John uttered when he rushed into Mercury’s trailer after the set. “You bastards, you stole the show,” joked the star.
“Queen smoked ’em. They just took everybody. They walked away being the greatest band you’d ever seen in your life, and it was unbelievable,” said David Grohl of Foo Fighters. “And that’s what made the band so great; that’s why they should be recognized as one of the greatest rock bands of all time because they could connect with an audience.”

I’ve never seen one singer or band control a huge audience like this. When you’re performing at these events, you don’t just have to be concerned about putting on a great performance. You have to at least attempt to keep people safe so they come back and see you. Unless violence is your draw because you’re a bad boy. Those people had the time of their lives and I hardly think after a Queen concert, someone is thinking about getting in a fight or attacking someone.

He held the audience in the palm of his hand despite most of them not being there as Queen fans. Tickets for Live Aid sold out in hours several months prior to Queen confirming they could perform a couple of days prior to the show. Yet, without doubt, they stole the show.

BTW… After “Radio GaGa” when Fred launches into the “Ay-Oh” call-and-repeat w the crowd… Brian May said that WASN’T PLANNED/the rest of the band DIDN’T KNOW he was gonna do that! So, as Freddie sings that first “Ay-Oh” and Brian can be seen in the back facing the speakers… Bri said his thought was: “OH, so we’re doing THAT now, are we?!?🤣

The crowd at this stadium was at capacity which was either 72,000 or 80,000 depending on who is telling the story. Freddie had not yet been diagnosed as HIV + at this time, that is one of the timeline errors from the movie. He had a HIV test in October of 1986 and was diagnosed with AIDS in April 1987.

72,000 in Attendance and 1.9 Billion watching from around the world, Which was 1/4 of the world at that time. Live Aid made $23 million for famine in Africa. When Queen got off the stage a prince from Dubai donated 1 million dollars.

In Bohemian Rhapsody he blew a kiss to his mum, Brian's guitar was hand made by him and his dad out of parts at home and what they could get, the whammy bar was from a stroller (pram)

Elton John and a few others joked that Earth was about the right size stage for Freddie to work, people at the back felt like he was singing directly to them, Prince used to watch Queen concerts to help his stage presence, as have nearly most bands since Live Aid

There is absolutely no debate queen and Freddie stole the show at live aid. Freddie and the band made rock history with this one. There are not enough words in the English language to describe how great Freddie was. He is a rock icon. Freddie was born to be a rock superstar. There isn't anything that Freddie can't do. He can do it all. He was on a different level.
    R.I.P FREDDIE WE MISS YOU
WE HEAR YOU SINGING FROM HEAVEN

    HI BOB,
LIVE AID WAS IN 1985... YOU'LL WANT TO CORRECT YOUR HEADING😉
(BTW, HURRAYYYYYYY that you used the Chief Mouse version of the video!!! There have been so MANY unfortunate reactors this last year who've unwittingly used the one-and-only "corrupted" incomplete copy of the video that's been circulating on YT, it's been really "sad" So, THANKS!
...As Mike Smith mentioned, there are more recent - improved quality - versions of the video on YT as well... I'm just GRATEFUL you picked one that's actually "all there"!)

@@BobBradford Freddie was diagnosed in 1987. Live Aid was 1985. FYI: In the early part of 1985, Queen planned a world-wide tour in South America (January 85), and then a long tour through Japan, New Zealand and Australia (Spring, 85). One reason why they weren't on the original list of performers is because they were on that extended tour. Once they returned from touring, they decided they could be a part of Live Aid in July, 1985. They practiced this set for about a week to fit as many of their songs as possible into their 20 minute time slot. By some estimations, almost 3/4 of the planet who had access to a TV watched all or part of Live Aid....it was a unifying experience for sure...music can do that! Nice reaction to this incredible performance by my favorite band for over 50 years.
