Mounted officers are the nicest, because riding changes one's perspective on authority - it is not enough to make a horse do something that's against his will: one must make him want to do what you ask.

The horses should be resting in the field enough of this humbug

Why what? Her tapping him with the spur to tell him to move?

Because he was being difficult with her, he'll start to trust her and then she won't have to spur him again to get a reaction

Omg, spurring horses is abuse. It digs out skin and can leave scars. You're supposed to click your tongue or squeeze your legs first, if you get no reaction a light kick will do. No need for a spur, this dumb hag doesn't know how to ride.

@@gabrielle9577 Firstly I don't agree with spurs for general purpose but the point is these are police horses which need an emergency aid if necessary. She's not stupid and has to understand horses to be in the mounted section, she must have used normal aids such as legs at first but had to back it up with the spur if he wasn't listening, I don't even know if she used it in this scenario but the pressure is so obvious to the horse that the horse learns to respond correctly to only light leg so much quicker, and eventually spurs won't be used at all. Also, they only dig if they're misused and I can guarantee that's not in her interest. In that sense anything can cause harm to the horse if misused.

@@gabrielle9577 And frankly, even a light kick in the ribs will be much more painful to a horse than a moment of skin pressure from the spur and makes it harder for the horse to figure out what they did right, as you're basically just kicking them and pausing until you get the correct response which is confusing rather than continuous pressure which stops as soon as the horse responds.

Police Mounted Police. Horses a complete waste of time, money and resources. What actual good do they do….Nothing. Their riders cannot really make an arṟest because they have to keep hold of the horse. They cannot exactly chase offenders, Before you say, “Oh butt what about in riots.” Well, how often do they actually attend riots. Very few,, with the same result when it comes to making arrests. These officers with their cushy number, love being part of an ‘elite’ non police unit. These officers would be better used on foot and vehicle patrolling.

Nonsense, mounted police officers don't like work so they sit up there and do very little.
Put them back on the beat!

You ever ride a big, massively strong horse like one of those? You don't just sit on them. It's some work to ride them.

Horse gives the copper a height advantage, not many people want to misbehave with a horse that could rear up and bring its hooves down on your head and any criminals have no chance of out running a horse on foot.

Obviously you have not ridden a horse. It is a physically active process.
Like others have said - with a mind of its own. Amazing skill these mounted officers.
Much easier to drive a car.

Genuinely baffles me how much someone can lack basic intelligence and common sense, you have no understanding of A) horse riding and B) Policing in general. Melt
