Truly amazing, this really is the best job in the world. I've wanted to be a member of the mounted unit but just never could push myself to be one. It still disappoints me to this day.
BEAUTIFUL DRAFTS. I believe that’s the correct spelling, and hopefully breed. Which is amazing because they’re so calm!! Beautiful!! *Wanted to call them another breed.*
the fact that they want inexperienced people isnt too appealing. maybe to this department, but my father works alongside the mounted unit as a motor officer in DC and I've spoken to many of them and visited their stables. they ALL have prior experience and desperately want people that know what they are doing which I personally believe is better to hire people who understand horses over years of experience. (I work with horses for a living) And many units are actually taking in many different breeds of horses, not just drafts, as of late. They also go through extensive tests when looking to purchase horses and some are even imported for more wealthy units. just a couple fun facts I guess👍🏻
mikyla martinez yeah that was a little weird. I worked at the Potomac Horse center in MD for years. We hosted the Park polices unit for training. They where always hunting for riders that would join up. Rick (I forget his last name , but he was in charged) Begged me to join.
That's just this specific officer though. She "prefers" to train people who are more inexperienced as she doesn't have to break bad habits out of them. But, they never said "only" inexperienced people. I'm sure experience is appreciated - especially if you have good riding and horse care habits!!
The rope halter was still on the horse. She was pulling the lead rope attached to the halter. She was being a little rough, which I doubt would have been needed if she was pulling the bit
I know how big they are! My parents have 3 Belgians they bred 2 of them. They are also retired from the Broward County Sheriff's Office and now live in Ohio. They are awesome & beautiful houses
Sasha Meadowwolf How is it any different to riding another breed of horse, it’s not any harder keeping them shorter on any other breed including clydes.
@@itsallgood4093 yeah I mean we see them do it in the beginning when they are preparing and in the working clothes but what about when patrolling the capital in full CHP uniform, I don't see them getting out there picking up horse shit
Mackenzie Bircher as an equestrian my self I was cringing threw out this vidieo if you want to see pictures of my horse and me fallow me on instagram @willrowland226
I don’t know about you, but if I’m going to be on a massive horse in the city, I’m going to want every single bit of control I can over that horses entire body. Spurs, big bit, whatever I need in case I need to make a quick get away or keep him under control.
Lucia King control over horses doesn’t come from yanking on the horses mouth or jabbing him in the side with spurs. Control comes from the riders seat and voice. The only use for a bit should be to help with direction. And when using a bit, you don’t need a super strong one to “control” the horse.
I can't believe no one has talked about this huge problem I see in the video. THE TAILS ARE CUT IN HALF!!! When you cut a horses tail you are also cutting the bone it is like docking a dog's tail. This is something that should be said, cutting a horses tail is completely unnecessary unless for veterinary purposes.
Tala Aljaber they arnt cutting the actul bone its just the hair and when horses have short tails it dosnt have to be for veterinary purposes a lot of them do it so there tails dont get caught in harnesses when pulling something thats why you see it on draft horses.the tail bone Is up higher it isnt in the whole tail
Wow! I ride horses so this is the job for me totally lol if you don’t believe me I own a horse named shiane she is 13.2 hands and she is 13 years old I would love this job
Ok, wait. I think the host was incorrect. It’s impossible to be paid for this. These officers must be paying them to live like like this! Second, I have been caught “accidentally” speeding on the 101, and now you’re telling me I have to watch for horses now in the rear view.??? I also wonder why these officers are not paid a bonus for a Ultra-high Risk Hazard Pay …. Motorcycles you can control - those beast have a mind of their own and are more befitting for armor suiting and the next Thor Movie. Suggestions: Add RGB led everywhere. Allow officer mood control. Imagine if there is a distraction growing or trying to find a child who doesn’t want to find you. One moment horses is dark, next he is lit up like a unicorn and snaps on his traffic direction stick, calls up an old ice cream truck toon or todays kid pied piper music? Kids would run out from under everywhere. Lol. Homeless person that is manageable but betting mood change. Smile and push a button. You find out he likes the color green and won’t leave. You tell him how about I turn my horse green and let me help. He will say sure - or at least you may have a chance. What would be best for seniors. I’d have a Mr Ed Voice over on my phone and mumble as I walked past seniors. Then in normal voice say - you should here him chastise the criminals!!! So cool to see…. Who’s thought. Horses. CHP Tools I am aware of now as a driver are; light speed laser, radar, planes, copters, rocket bikes, Chargers, Rams, unmarked units and now horses …. Thank you for all the courtesy over the years, and helping me and others.
I have the feeling that it's someone who's NOT around horses that did the script and editing for this video... They did not talk about the extensive training these horse go throught or the drastic selections of the horses either... They did not talk about the gear, why they use it and why it is adapted to their job/the horse. They did not talk about the things the horse can do with video clips as examples. And no, the horses walking around the Capitol is not that. They did not talk about the shoes the horses have wich are not the same as the one you usually see everywhere. Do i need to continue ?😅 To sum up i clicked only because it's about horses but i did not learn anything at all in the end ! Very frustrating....
@@demikars6312 Yes, but it can get expensive to be replacing them all the time. Might be a good idea to try a copper roller bit with that cheeky stinker. XD
0:47 - 0:51 I like that she checks the horse's back for signs of soreness.
I always wanted more police vlogs from departments! NOW MY FAVORITE DEPARTMENT EVER IS DOING IT TOO!!
Please do more of these!
The bay she"s riding likes chewing his lead...cheeky fellow.
Ya it's funny
Those are beautiful horses. MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL OF YOUR OFFICERS.
I really love the drafts, so kind and Noble.
Do a vlog about air ops!
Josh Daly no
Colin Morrow yes
Love those big gentle giants!
Thank you for your service. Hope Santa is especially good to the babies.
I have been waiting so long for the CHP vlog.
Best wishes for CHiPs.
Love this!! I'm pretty sure I saw a few of the riders and horses today while on a walk from work. Was so happy to see them as a rider myself. :)
We all know that other officer in the “Around the World” exercise could’ve gone a lot faster...
Omg I hope they do more vlogs

I'm going to hold my tounge. The horse community is tough
love how the dark brown horse chews on his lead because he has nothing to do during the day. 🥺
Maya Nobles This is completely normal behaviour of a horse. These guys treat their horses very well!
Amélie D yes! i know. 😂 my horse chews his lead and it’s annoying because i have to replace it every month💀
@@amelied1897 it is NOT normal behavior for a horse to chew on his lead rope .... 🤦♀️ .
Maya Nobles they chew on the lead bc it’s their NATURE
Evelyn Chapel Do u even ride horses lol?
The sad thing is that I can say with upmost certainty that 90% of mounted police officers don’t actually know how to ride. It’s sad
Very nice video 📹 , magnificent horses. From Ireland ☘️

Didn't make a lot of sense to me either, unless they have a very extensive training program. Seems like that would take a lot of time.
ItsallGood It was 18 weeks for the park police in 2010. Not sure about now

I like the fact that every part of the horse is checked including the feet before they start their patrol.
Awesome I really hope you are planning on doing more
Keep up the great videos thank you for your service
Love the chp keep up the vids
Can you do a couple of ridealongs with normal patrol

This was great my man keep up the good work please post videos every week let people know what Chp do thank from Fresno pd Explorer
I'd love to see a vlog showcasing the new Chargers and Utilities.
The mounted CHP rocks.
His stirrups were way too long.
he was only walking so it didnt matter. plus it looks like hes putting his toes down for comfort, not because his legs are short
He’s on a Clydesdale, which is harder for him to keep them short. Especially since he was just walking so it doesn’t matter
Sasha Meadowwolf How is it any different to riding another breed of horse, it’s not any harder keeping them shorter on any other breed including clydes.
You realize that it isn't his horse or saddle and he was only up there for a short period of time .
My two favorite things! Horses and cops! 💙🖤💙 🐎🐴
Good job guys Santos from New Jersey
Wow very good awesome for a first time
why are the halters on under neath the bridle?
Clean those feed buckets .
Great video. Informative for kids and adults.
Do the horses wear special shoes?
Another great video. Interesting. Stay safe.
Does someone knows what is the horse breed of the palomino one?
*CHP hearts my comment*
Me: I have become a celebrity.
Such huge horses ! Scares me , but beautiful animal and of course our Officers .... stay safe always
If you are scared, you do not want to be around horses.
Awesome vlog.
Fun fact the chp is also the security detail for the governor
Very Nice to see police dept’s using drafts
Never have seen patrol draft horses before!
Could someone tell me what type of draft horse the cream/dun horse is? I'm thinking flemish but i could be wrong
Nice video...greetz erom the netherlands
Lol I use to do around the world on my riding lesson in my younger day. Love shires.
Yes clidestals or other draft horses are docile and sweet and just want to plees you.
The only police force that have a mounted police.
Wrong , there are many police departments around the country who have Mounted Patrol .
You really do not need the long shanks. The extra leverage is painful to the horse when engaged.
What breed is this?
Beautiful animals.
I wanna do this! Looks amazing!
I love the CHP pls do more
Horses! 😍🐴
I boarded my horse at that facility when they did that video 😂
Assuming someone gets into CHP how hard is it to get this kind of job
How do i become a mounted patrol officer?
Vlog about the chp swat team please!
Horses are the best a animal's ever.
The stirrups are to long and the bits are to harsh as the horses are very well behave
Does the CHP have some sort of gang unit?
No, the Gang Unit is either with a Department in a city. Or a Fish and Wildlife.
No but there is a program in most police departments called magec that program only goes after gangs so magec is the same thing as gang unit
Ah, I see.Thank you guys!
closest thing to a gang unit that the CHP has is the Mexico Liaison Unit which in a nutshell works with mexican authorities to recover stolen vehicles
Most police or deputy gang task forces have a chippy or two on the team.
serious question: do you guys have to clean up the horse shit left in the street or someone else is responsible.
Good question.
