This isn't a coating issue, go chnage natural to vivid. It literally does nothing. This is a software bug not an anti glare coating. Look at any glossy to matte oled monitors. Colors still pop on both regardless
This is not true. True monitor and TV enthusiasts recognize matte screens have lower color vibrance. See the recent OLED LG panels. The TVs have more vibrance because they're glossy. The monitors look gray when off even though it's OLED. There is even testing using the same LG OLED panel with matte vs glossy that show glossy had higher vibrance. There is a bug but matte is inherently less vibrant than glossy.

We don’t know tbh if it is a bug, Samsung didn’t say. It could be a hardware problem due to the anti reflective layer. (This is also a problem known with anti reflective coatings.)
I am really tired of this bullshit and excesive marketing. Everybody who upgraded from S23 to S24 are disappointed. It's not worth the upgrade so I am glad that I got de S23 6 months ago.😊
Until they are not fixing their screen flickering by adapting either DC-Dimming or PWM-Dimming, and opt for eye-friendly display, they are not getting my money.
Latest update carried vivid mode enhancements. I was initially frustrated when I found out about it but customer support at Samsung told me that it'll be handled in upcoming updates and it did. Super glad they made it happen!!
OMG! I was today at the store to compares the screen colors to my fold3 , and I must say that I was not satisfied. The difference in vibrance between vibrant and neutral color mode on the s24 Ultra is not like on the fold3 or s22 ultra or fold5... It felt like a cheap display, like its not OLED! If they don't fix this in the next 14 days with an update it's going straight back to Samsung!
S23 ultra and s24 ultra here. Screen s23 is so much better. S24 whites are yellow. Red is orange. The colours don't pop compared to the older phone. They are just flat. Deal-breaker. Looks like the screen is broken. What a bummer.
Now it makes sense why Samsung didn't advertise this feature. Now, it's impossible to judge a screen using a screen (watching this video), but the loss of color doesn't look that bad. Without the S23U next to it, I wouldn't have been able to tell.
S24+ doesnt have it luckily snd i saw it roght zway when next to the s24 ultrs its sad because the color on the 24+ looks to be even more then the s23. So they could of had a banger in color. Every year it gets worse. The s22 had more color then the s23. More layers new glass all the time reducing more and more color so i will be getting the s24+ instead.
Just got my S24 Ultra and the screen color is very dull and gray. Next to my S21 Ultra my new S24 Ultra looks like the screen is broken. Samsung needs to fix this issue immediately. What a disappointment. Was so excited to get this new phone.
Vivid colors are fixed with a software update, what is really wrong with this coating is the slightest shift in viewing angle distorts colors giving them a green/blue tint, especially noticeable on white and yellow backgrounds. Samsung really messed up with this one.
By the way, the DCI P3 color on the s24 screens has been reduced vs the s23 Ultra. I noticed it didn't "pop" nearly as much as the s23 Ultra. I saw a review out of China that showed the reduction in PCI D3. It has dropped to between 82 to 84 percent. RGB color gamut is still 100, but gosh, the screen feels less exciting to me on the s24 Ultra.
It's great to have good features on phones, but I've noticed a trend where manufacturers intentionally lower the specs and hardware so they have something to upgrade in the future. For example, my S9+ has WQHD+ resolution since its release, and the screen is phenomenal. However, when I upgraded, only the Ultra models had WQHD+. So in a sense my old phone has better screen than my new upgraded flagship device from Samsung. What I'm trying to say is, hopefully, they keep the antireflective coating and other improvements and don't downgrade it in the next lineup. It's such dk move!
The thing is it’s still super vibrant. People are totally exaggerating saying it’s “dull” it’s not at all. They’ll fix the colour profiles under screen settings. But I’ll take an anti reflective display over the previous one any day
@@MatthewMoniz Yes, but everything else has a flat display. While inconvenient, it was nice to use. I taught classes on my S22 Ultra at university by connecting it to the projector and the curved display never had an issue!
@@MatthewMoniz did that little curve really bothered you? Cause i have another problem. And i think my problem is the samsung keyboard. I dont think the curved screen is a problem for me, but when i type fast, i mistype quite often. And i probably count too much on the correction system, but it really is annoying that samsung keyboard is not very good at detecting errors. Okay, for english, we're lucky we have grammarly that is implemented for a couple of years in samsung keyboard. And still, sometimes when i type it inputs all the wrong letters so that even grammarly doesnt recognize the word and i have to correct it manually. But because im also using spanish, german, french and russian keyboards, and grammarly doesnt exist for those languages. I, and probably half of the world population, find myself in a situation where the keyboard is just very bad at correcting mistakes. And like... My fingers are not that big, but wrong letter input bugs me for years already and idk what to do. And Gboard is not that good integrated to the samsung ecosystem. And certain features there are either not available or worse than samsung keyboard. For example i enabled keyboard/key color effect when i tap letters. Its only available for samsung keyboard. I honestly would rather prefer a better detection tool for taps or some ai improvements for different languages. Curved screen never really bothered me.
it's more because of the display, not the coating. I just upgraded from note 10 to s24+, and the color is not that vivid even on max vivid setting, note 10's color is more saturated imo, while the s24+ is more "washed out"
That explains it. I was literally comparing the screens of the 23 and 24 ultra today and the vivid and natural display settings are almost identical on the 24.
Ok so we had the same issue with tge Steam Deck 1TB version which came with etched glass. Slap on a glossy film or glass screen protector and voila the colours pop.
@@Antiwhippy Well use a matte screen protector.....but I buy these phones because of the colours and believe me I live in a country where it's hot, sunny and practically no shade anywhere lol So why are you complaining after all this time.
@dizzeechannie I agree. I feel the exact same way. I have color corrected monitor and I placed the s23 and s24 next to it and there was a visible difference in the reds and yellows which is basically the skintones. So I wouldn't correct colors on the s24 cause if I do, it would look oversaturated on all other devices.

Well I guess Samsung said the screen was intented to be like this. Seems like the rep is wrong. Probably just telling them to say that, but with that said, I wonder what kind of update they would do then if it's hardware related?
Reflection has a solution, just put an decent antireflective temper glass, but sooooo many units came with banding display and graininess. I did notice a huge difference in display quality comparing it to an S23U.
Vibrancy is a software bug, fixed as of update 2 , time of this writing Sunday march 10th. Compared directly to my S22Ultra and it looks even more vibrant!
I contacted smasung support because immediately after I upgraded from s23u to s24u noticed the huge difference in constrast, red and green are now more yellowish, they made me go to samsung store to compare screens and yes, it seems that the screen is like s23u natural profile.
LOL, saturation can be boosted on any screen, this isnt a hardware issue, it's simply a more accurate colour profile which can easily be changed if there are calls for it.
you can boost saturation on both phones to max the s23 ultra will always look more vibrant. They're using a different material on the s24 ultra which reduces reflections. Same idea as buying a matte display but not as aggressive
I presume that having colour calibrated output is more important than oversaturated colours. Thus, the display should be tested with sRGB or DCI-P3 calibrated colour space.
@@MatthewMoniz I mean you haven't tested that though so you're just theorizing. All you did is selected the "vibrant" setting. That's not doing what jfx is saying.
Of course I've tested it. The S23 Ultra will always look more vibrant. You can see it especially in the reds and yellows. Anytime you reduce reflections you reduce the vibrancy of the display. Think of Apple's Pro XDR display. There's a NANO coated version which kills reflections and one without. They both have the same screen brightness but the one without the nano coating will always look more vibrant. @@theNimboo
@MatthewMoniz Sorry, what I'm trying to say is that they could easily boost the saturation to match the S23 just by changing the colour profile if they wanted to even if the new screen hardware naturally desaturates the screen. This tells me that they preferred to go for a more colour accurate display similar to that of a colour-critical monitor (iphones also lean this way).
It's caused by the advanced eye comfort setting. Go to settings and keep eye shield on but turn the advanced eye comfort off and it will look normal. It has nothing to do with the anti reflective screen.
Not sure that this is what's causing the issue that hundreds are complaining about in blogs !! Some have stated that those settings are off and colors are still DULL/WASHED OFF !! apparently it's a bug ... all I know is they better fix this immediately for the amount of money these cost .
Well the plus is the way to go if you hate boxy designs and don't give a damn about the camera and that's me lol 200mp cameras don't make you a good photographer and that is one thing I am not.
This isn’t true, it’s a software issue that’s reducing colour vibrancy. If you turn on HDR videos you’ll see there is no difference. People are already sharing temporary fixes for this issue.
we don't know if it is software yet, They will hear our cries and say they will update it but it will end up doing very little in an update and our brains will precieved that it is improved and it won't be.
You're very wrong. It has nothing to do with anti-reflecting properties. Don't spread missinformation !! It's a software bug, present on all S24 devices, even on base S24 and S24+ which do not have anti-reflective treatment.
Ipad air 2 had antireflective coating (blue tint to its screen) the colours were spot on. All more expensive wrist watches has AR coating and for clarity.
I've seen a desktop display review video (Dave2D channel, maybe - can't remember the name) say that anti reflective coating affects the colors coming from the other side of the glass (screen), as well as the light from outside (surroundings)
The chase for a superior anti-glaring coat is ridiculous. Sure the reflection can be annoying at times, but taking this extreme measure to eradicate an annoyance, only creates new ones.
Check the vivid and rgb settings. On mine they ain't doing anything. I've logged a defect. I assume they had to baseline it without finishing the sw build. I've logged a defect. Do the same if yours is affected. Others are having the same issue.
Yeah this is why i wont be getting it. Samsung is getting less and less color every year. S23 had less then the 22. More and more layers. Glass is reducing color with every change. S24+ pops like the s23 so go with the + guys it doesnt have the new glass thank god. Lets pleaee bring this to samsung so they stop because if i want an iphone look ill get an iphone. 70% of there consumers go with samsung purely due to the display colors and pop lol. The more they do this stuff the more they will realize they take a hit. Same thing they are doing to there tvs the entire consumer bsse isad they are using an anti glare coating this year. When will samsung learn oled likes glossy panels period. We dont want reduced color samsung is known for color if they lose that its a huge hit. In other words get the 24+ it doesnt have it.
I dropped my S23U today on a marble surface floor from above waist height. Not a scratch or break in the glass, and it fell directly on the front glass.😂
Because it doesn't have that matte coating and it has more ppi in fact. And that's the one I'm getting. Pretty sure some people are going to be disappointed if they just pre ordered without watching reviews.

LThere's hundreds of reports that I've read in comments and blogs like REDIT. It is a major deal breaker . The colors are looking DULL/ WASHED OFF. If anyone is coming from the S22 OR S23 ULTRA it will definitely be noticeable!
@johnjohn6808 Do you know if this is a software issue and we will be getting an update soon?
Software bug, will be fixed
We don’t know tbh if it is a bug, Samsung didn’t say. It could be a hardware problem due to the anti reflective layer. (This is also a problem known with anti reflective coatings.)
Are you in vivid mode in the display settings?
I got the s24 ultra, and this screen is AWSOME. This phone is GREAT. Samsung every year gets better and better.🎉🎉🎉
I am really tired of this bullshit and excesive marketing. Everybody who upgraded from S23 to S24 are disappointed. It's not worth the upgrade so I am glad that I got de S23 6 months ago.😊
This needs to be talked about more- it's a substantial hit to the color pop were all used to...
It's the new organic material, which is called M13 that Samsung used newly on their new display.
The in hand feel is spectacular. Even in FHD+ the screen is bright and vivid.
I feel exactly the same, like I'm looking at an LCD screen.
Exactly 💯.. I will send it back if not fixed !
It will be fixed in a software update. Y'all need to relax lol.
@@Gurenn83shiiiitt they better Samsung got me effed up
Hi.Hows your screen now?
Please let us know.Thanks.
S23 ultra and s24 ultra here. Screen s23 is so much better. S24 whites are yellow. Red is orange. The colours don't pop compared to the older phone. They are just flat. Deal-breaker. Looks like the screen is broken. What a bummer.
That’s very sad because less reflections is actually a good thing.
@@BaSiC47REFLECTIONS ARE VERY ANNOYING MOST OF THE TIME.👎👎
Now it makes sense why Samsung didn't advertise this feature. Now, it's impossible to judge a screen using a screen (watching this video), but the loss of color doesn't look that bad. Without the S23U next to it, I wouldn't have been able to tell.
Display of s23 ultra is still best money can buy
S24+ doesnt have it luckily snd i saw it roght zway when next to the s24 ultrs its sad because the color on the 24+ looks to be even more then the s23. So they could of had a banger in color. Every year it gets worse. The s22 had more color then the s23. More layers new glass all the time reducing more and more color so i will be getting the s24+ instead.
It's because Vivid colour mode is not working on the 24u, Samsung needs to fix it fast.
@@reviewforthetube6485 plus models are best in s-series
Just got my S24 Ultra and the screen color is very dull and gray. Next to my S21 Ultra my new S24 Ultra looks like the screen is broken. Samsung needs to fix this issue immediately. What a disappointment. Was so excited to get this new phone.
I still have my S22 ultra in great condition. Thinking about upgrading as this looks great.
if samsung will give black and white display still paid youtuber will said best display till date in market samsung have offer
RGB color gamut is still 100, but gosh, the screen feels less exciting to me on the s24 Ultra.
its mostly fixed now.
go to settings display. and under vivid mode you have extra settings where you can increase the intensity of colours
Doesn't matter for me cuz I will surely put a glass screen protector and boom! All reflections back!
I don't mind losing some vibrancy if it results in Zack saying "scratches at a level 7 with deep grooves at a level 8" it's honestly game changing.
The thing is it’s still super vibrant. People are totally exaggerating saying it’s “dull” it’s not at all. They’ll fix the colour profiles under screen settings. But I’ll take an anti reflective display over the previous one any day
While less convenient, I think they should have stuck with the curved glossy display. Just looked so much cooler!
I'll take a flat display any day over a curved one. So much better to type on.
Has built in AI now will easily correct everything. It's powered by google.
Ah yes...well the flat screen ain't bad but the matte (dammit) finish isn't cool at all.
I use natural colors so I don't have a problem it's a perfect phone for me
it's more because of the display, not the coating. I just upgraded from note 10 to s24+, and the color is not that vivid even on max vivid setting, note 10's color is more saturated imo, while the s24+ is more "washed out"
They've confirmed it's a software bug and they'll get an update out next week which also improves the camera performance

Complaints actually exist regarding the base and plus models too, it might be a software issue instead then
It's a big problem affecting all S24, Samsung needs to fix it fast, vivid mode dose not work.
Ok so we had the same issue with tge Steam Deck 1TB version which came with etched glass. Slap on a glossy film or glass screen protector and voila the colours pop.

I got mine and I love the screen, the less reflections is so game changing. u dont notice how good it is until it hits you. its really good. also they updated s24 ultra software at the end of feb and it increased the vibrancy. its perfect.
The recent update has resolved the issue. 🙌
It's not vibrant still after update when I compare it with my old S20plus display , Color production is not upto mark in S24 Ultra.
@EngineerAwara It was still a significant improvement. The positive aspect is that we will continue to receive updates for the upcoming seven years.😁
I would definitely take reflections over the armor coating. Samsung's color calibration is awesome. Can't let that new fancy glass ruin it.
Not just that, a coating like that may also introduce internal reflections, resulting in lesser inky blacks.
is the color problem a big deal? I have the s22U and waiting on my s24. I really love the vibrant colors on my s22

A bit of vibrancy loss is 1000x better than the glare! You can't see the colors pop with all the glare anyways! 😂😂
Nobody cares about that outside. Would prefer samsungs colors. The one thing samsung has over everyone else is there display the colors the pop they hsve. If they lose that then the display battle will reduce. Omg it does good with reflections? Ive yet to have single instance where my s23ultrs wasnt bright enough to dee outside. you can find the model number on the build number , it will be the last few digits
Really bro? I get my phone in a few days so I want to make sure the 1300 price point is worth it. U sure the rep knows what they are talking about ?
@@jvcarter21 that's what he told me. You can go on developer option and increase the contrast to high, you will see the colours better. I spoke to Samsung again yesterday and he goes we are on it but it might take a few weeks. In the mean time put the contrast to high you will like it. The phone is a beast I love it.
@@jvcarter21 I just got new update info from someone I know that works in Samsung. They are gona add a slider to the vivid option so you can adjust to your own acord so it will add more vibrant colours back. And the update will come in roughly about 2 weeks time. I've been on this case since I got the phone and I won't stop until I get the vivid colours back. I've been with Samsung since 2010 when the s1 was out.
I did notice a huge difference in display quality comparing it to an S23U.

was it resolved?
It's because Vivid colour mode is not working on the s24.
@@JohnSmith-ef8nr you sure it’s not because it’s 75% less reflective so it’s gonna look a little duller
This is awesome. I'm on s22 ultra but might wait for S25.
The recent update fixed the "pop" issue. Now it's got the "pop" being talked about.
Yeah but if the sun is reflecting on the screen the colors would'nt pop as much on the s23.
This year samsung S series has degraded only
Well the plus is the way to go if you hate boxy designs and don't give a damn about the camera and that's me lol 200mp cameras don't make you a good photographer and that is one thing I am not.
Backdrop wallpapers are so dope, i had the same one
its awesome! where can i find this wallpaper?
Playstore > Backdrops
This isn’t true, it’s a software issue that’s reducing colour vibrancy. If you turn on HDR videos you’ll see there is no difference. People are already sharing temporary fixes for this issue.
we don't know if it is software yet, They will hear our cries and say they will update it but it will end up doing very little in an update and our brains will precieved that it is improved and it won't be.
@@DjghostyMusicWTF lol
@@DjghostyMusic It would seem you were incorrect.
This is why I was wondering. I felt something was off. I kind of rather want more vibrant but most people probably don't know
You're very wrong.
I've seen a desktop display review video (Dave2D channel, maybe - can't remember the name) say that anti reflective coating affects the colors coming from the other side of the glass (screen), as well as the light from outside (surroundings)
correct my s24+ has faded colors too
hoping that it's not a hardware issue but a software bug
The s24+ have the same anti-refpectivr coating/bug which dulls the colors?
Dont worrry now they have added the vividness level
I'd take less color saturation for some anti reflection
The chase for a superior anti-glaring coat is ridiculous. Sure the reflection can be annoying at times, but taking this extreme measure to eradicate an annoyance, only creates new ones.
Check the vivid and rgb settings. On mine they ain't doing anything. I've logged a defect. I assume they had to baseline it without finishing the sw build. I've logged a defect. Do the same if yours is affected. Others are having the same issue.
You're right. My rgb settings do nothing. Definitely buggy
S24U looks so futuristic man
Yeah this is why i wont be getting it.
