I'm on a Bernadette binge and I think I need to stop because I'm almost out of tears. This song expresses something so deeply human about being haunted by someone or something that's gone. And Peters delivers it with such vulnerability and directness, you believe every word.
i think it is her way of making herself unique. She does it all the time. I am not sure it is acting or she really feels it. Interesting although she is not my favorite. I need authenticity and I doubt her for some reason.
She's completely in the character of, Sally, from Follies. I saw Bernadette on Broadway and she was brilliant as ever - and truly brought Sally to life, as she does here.
I met Bernadette in bookstore while reading a book of death and life. She was standing over me and her pretty face. And she said it is a good book. I didn't answer for a moment she was so real angelic . She gave me relief for a moment. I was suffering from the loss of my mother. She has an outstanding soul . I hope I see her again for her utmost love and respect. Respectfully. Anthony Bove'
Hate everyone giving out that her voice isnt as strong as it used to be and it's time to give up or that she missed some notes, the woman is 66 in this video she sings the hello outta this song with so emotion its heartbreaking, I would much rather listen to her sing with emotion than a much younger person who might not understand the character or emotion, but sing it because they have a young strong voice
I'm guessing that people are forgetting that her husband was killed in a helicopter crash when he was young. Isn't it just possible that this song reminds her of how desperately widows miss their husbands. I know that's what this song reminds me of, I lost mine in 2018 at a young age.
Peters is brilliant, as always. Heartful and soulful. She's one of the few singers that doesn't appear lost in the length of a Sondheim song. I love her.
I adore Bernadette Peters, but I think the best rendition of this song belongs to the late Maren Mazzie who died way too young. Maren's performance of this song is also on youtube.
Honestly she can make me emotional and tear up just by the way she sings those songs. Even if I wouldn't be able to understand the lyrics she'd make me cry
She's an actor. Sondheim seemingly didn't write for singers. His pieces are to be interpreted to be exactly as they should be. I would LOVE to see his notes. Brilliant her, genius him.
Her voice is, as always, gorgeous, and I love the emotion. Her phrasing seems a little strange. Maybe it's because I've listened to Marin Mazzie's versions so many times
I have the same problem but it's probably mainly due to watchin Marin Mazzie's version too many times as well. What I liked about that version a bit more is the illusion at the beginning that it's a positive song and only towards the middle Marin lets in the frustration. But it's like comparing two diamonds...
@@JudyCZ - Marin's version's arc was brilliant. The build from joy to devastation was incremental and breathtaking. But since she sang the song in isolation and not in the context of the scene of Follies, she had the free reign of interpretation. What I love about that performance was also watching Bernadette sitting there riveted by Marin's performance.
@@JudyCZ Exactly. Marin has the right arc of the story telling, or surprise/twist. But Peters really does understand Sondheim. More than anyone. May he RIP.
An absolutely masterful performance. It’s a masterclass from the premiere Sondheim interpreter. The song is tender when it needs to be and on the verge of madness in others… exactly what the song conveys. A perfect vocal? In the context of the show, it’s not going to be either.
I'm a massive Bernadette Peters fan but even in context with the song and the character - her voice is all over the place here. I saw her last year and she was great but she only did one or two of her 'bigger' numbers (she didn't do some people or unexpected song for example) - her voice just isn't as strong as it used to be. Still love her though!
Her performance was great... Aside from that final note at 4:09. You could see it in her eyes that she knew she lost control of it and was disappointed in herself. Poor thing.
Hoi Yo well shes gonna be 70 next year of course she sounds different from when she was in her 50s (which she also sounded different from her 30s) we grow older and our voices change thats what happens
I understand people that think this is "an actors song", but all good singers must be good actors (That's not optional, and if the things are different today USA is to blame, since all that play in the radio is imported by u guys). About her voice, it as NEVER technically good in a conventional way because United States theater singers care more about the acting stuff (Wich is also not very good in the long run).
Her acting is a testament to her career. And why Sondheim said she was his muse. Because there were very few notes that were correct at all, but my God... The emotion! Her belts were perfect, but every other note was... Meh
so what!!!!! The intelligence and intensity of feeling are therer...and that's a lot more that other actor/singers. She has the art of making you feel what she is feeling
so what !!!! the intensity and feeling are there and she moves you with her complete artistry and emotion and depth of feeling. If you want perfect singing look else where
Love Ms. Peters, but that was a real hot mess of a train wreck. Off-key, slow as molasses & excessively indulgent, she cries the entire song, beginning to end. And that rewritten ending? Sheesh...
She’s famous because has 7 Tony Nominations and 2 wins spanning 47 years and she’s FUCKING BRILLIANT. So what if she’s not pitch perfect. These pop tarts of today are all auto-tuned and over processed. They could take a lesson or more from Ms. Peters.
Who the hell do you consider "special?" This woman is one of the best singers of this genre I have ever heard. Here, she's in her 60s and still puts a song across as few others. Yes, there are a few problems, but singers today in their 30s couldn't do this well. She's a pro, a multi-talented star. Listen to her sing, "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry," but for one example of her greatness.
I'm on a Bernadette binge and I think I need to stop because I'm almost out of tears. This song expresses something so deeply human about being haunted by someone or something that's gone. And Peters delivers it with such vulnerability and directness, you believe every word.
It sounds and looks like she sings this entire song on the verge of tears
shes prob thinking of her husband Michael who was killed in a plane crash very sad.
She's in character for this song! It's a song from the Broadway show Folies.
She's on the verge of a nervous breakdown.
i think it is her way of making herself unique. She does it all the time. I am not sure it is acting or she really feels it. Interesting although she is not my favorite. I need authenticity and I doubt her for some reason.
Holy crap....she's like 66 here in this performance and doesn't look a day over 29. One of my biggest crushes when I was younger.
I love how she conveys the exhaustion of grief in this song and makes it look easy.
This is an absolutely brilliant peformance by Miss Peters!
Pure class , so pleased Ms Peter’s is making her west debut later this year 2023 .
Saw her today and Wow just absolutely Wow ❤ when she sang this I was sobbing incredible WOW ❤❤❤
She's completely in the character of, Sally, from Follies. I saw Bernadette on Broadway and she was brilliant as ever - and truly brought Sally to life, as she does here.
Absolutely brilliant!

The pain, the agony, the anguish, the longing, the pining, the desperation. I have never felt and understood the lyrics more than with this rendition.
She acts every song. She is amazing.
Bernadette's performance of this song on Broadway made it clear that Sally is 'losing her mind." What an amazing performance.
that vocal crack is perfect, like she is on the verge of tears.
This is why she is a star you cannot take your eyes off her
She's got the voice-- and the emotion. Excellent.

No notes missed here just brilliant. ❤
It is our job. We built her up... and now we must tear her down to her previous lows.
Literally. Almost anyone couldn’t do this performance so for all these comments… embarrassing. Know your lane and show respect to an icon 👏
I adore Bernadette Peters, but I think the best rendition of this song belongs to the late Maren Mazzie who died way too young. Maren's performance of this song is also on youtube.
never gets old (literally)
Every performance is brilliant. So amazing. Powerful.
does anyone realize how personal this is to her as she tragically lost her husband in a helicopter crash back in 2006 ?
I tragically lost my husband too..... you can see
Her grief....2006. Love Ms. PETERS ALWAYS HAVE
she,can still belt them out. beautiful bernadette, Just beautiful.
Simplemente PERFECTION!
She never gets old!!!!
This is perfect - I was looking for an up-tempo 👍
tearful
Honestly she can make me emotional and tear up just by the way she sings those songs. Even if I wouldn't be able to understand the lyrics she'd make me cry
I grew up being entertained by her and she always have that beautiful eyes…
awesome, thanks for sharing!!!
This is an actors song. Her singing is as strong as ever. She is choosing emotions over vocal technique.
She's an actor. Sondheim seemingly didn't write for singers. His pieces are to be interpreted to be exactly as they should be. I would LOVE to see his notes. Brilliant her, genius him.
Fantastic,!!
#Happy70 goddess!!!
Bernadette gifted soul.
amazing. a timeless, endlessly captivating performer.
Amazing !what an enthralling journey she takes the listener/ audience on . Breathtaking
Wow what A Performance
Beautiful. Bernadette

There a no better soul on the face of this earth! ❤️
Шикарно.
SHE WAS LIKE 60 SOMETHING IN THIS THATS CRAZY!!!
Goddess, and those lyrics...
She is the epitome of the Sondheim singer. A fabulous player for most of my life.
No one does Sondheim like Miss Peters
THIS is the performance I love best.
Icon.
SHE NOW LOOKS LIKE 42 💙💙💙💙😭🙌🏻
RIP and thanks!!! Sondheim
I'm absolutely enamored with her. I've always adored Bernadette Peters
she is so cute
Her voice is, as always, gorgeous, and I love the emotion. Her phrasing seems a little strange. Maybe it's because I've listened to Marin Mazzie's versions so many times
Not so gorgeous here unfortunately. But no one can sing forever...she's had an amazing run.
I have the same problem but it's probably mainly due to watchin Marin Mazzie's version too many times as well. 2021....
she is extraordinary.

PERFECTION
On a Sondheim kick. I’m having a great night 🖤
God in Heaven...
As talented as Bernadette Peters is Marin Mazzies rendition of Losing My Mind is incomparable and will always be the Gold Standard 4:42
She looks young for 66!
Madonna could only dream about Bernadette's enduring youthful appearance at... like... 64/65 years old!🤣
This is her song - - - - -

so what if she misses a few notes...the intensity of her feelings and the meaning of the lyrics are conveyed beautifully
Good that you still love her, imagine if you hated her!
@@miltsar Yes but let's be honest, she struggled here
God help those you don’t like….
A beautiful rendition, but still the best performance ever was Dorothy Collins in the original production of Follies.
Her performance was great... Aside from that final note at 4:09. You could see it in her eyes that she knew she lost control of it and was disappointed in herself. Poor thing.
I love her, but her voice has a wobble at times and her pitch is not what it used to be, but still, a wonderful performance.
she can barely blink
adds a vulnerability, not often heard in interpretation.
This is so laboured. I love her, but this was painful.
Glad I saw her in the late '90s. She looks great, but...she's changed.
Funny, I was just going to say she hasn't changed a bit

People that sit on there sofasand bash any performers are the first to be burned in the depths of HELL.( YOU GET UP THERE AND DO IT YOU LAZZY SLOGGS)
Her acting is a testament to her career. And why Sondheim said she was his muse. Because there were very few notes that were correct at all, but my God... The emotion! Her belts were perfect, but every other note was... Meh
her vocal ability is lessoned
so what!!!!! The intelligence and intensity of feeling are therer...and that's a lot more that other actor/singers. She has the art of making you feel what she is feeling

Her voice isn't as supple as before
Agreed, but she is in her sixties.
so what !!!! the intensity and feeling are there and she moves you with her complete artistry and emotion and depth of feeling. If you want perfect singing look else where
Love Ms. Peters, but that was a real hot mess of a train wreck. Off-key, slow as molasses & excessively indulgent, she cries the entire song, beginning to end. And that rewritten ending? Sheesh...
i disagree
Ouf. Her voice is wobbly and strained, just a matter of age. Time to stop singing.
You sound like an insensitive child
time to stop telling someone what to do!
Nothing special .. why is she famous ?
This is her at 66 and out of her prime
She’s famous because has 7 Tony Nominations and 2 wins spanning 47 years and she’s FUCKING BRILLIANT. So what if she’s not pitch perfect. These pop tarts of today are all auto-tuned and over processed. They could take a lesson or more from Ms. Peters.
