That crash at the very end of the glitch showcase and the "BEEP" made me absolutely lose my shit. I've never laughed so hard for weeks...
+SingingGamingPhysics I forgot about that until I rewatched it now. Cracked up too. Never heard a game crash so hard it turned into a squeaky toy.

I never would have known you could glitch your way through this game. It looked flawless when I was little.
PikaPerfect I just finally came around to finish it last months. But the night before I beated it. I had my game soft lock on me. Once coming out of surfing on Luigi back to the main land. You can get attacked during the animation. After the battle you can't move and Mario is frozen in the air. I had to replay over an hour of gameplay because I was doing side quests like the Harhalls pants.
The final boss fight was absolutely unforgiving as a kid. Now I want to play this game again lol

Oh my fucking god! un 5 years i never noticed you can bonus power up any skill you want. I allways powered up the healt bar -_-

I did this too as a kid in my first playthrough. 2nd playthough, I found out I could power up what I wanted. +YoshiYogurt, it wasn't terrible I guess, just took longer I suppose.
i had to take some extra levels to defeat the bosses, like 5 more or so. idk about you

I played this game all the time as a kid, but I never beat it and don't have a gba anymore. Awesome to see a speedrun of it.

I remember being 7 years old when I first played this game and carrying my SP everywhere I went! I even got Mario and Luigi to level 80, lol. Ah the memories...
I matched Luigi's face expression when Alta showed off the "Punching Luigi in the Crotch" glitch. xD
Loved seeing the glitches and sequence breaking, especially things involving that barrel glitch. Adding this to my list of AGDQ glitchruns that I love to rewatch. lol
***** I realized that after trying it myself and heard Luigi making a noise when he's at 1 hp. If it was a glitch he would've gotten to 0 hp and caused problems. Played this pretty much since it was released, can't believe I never knew about that feature before.
It’s definitely intentional. The 3DS remake includes it too

Much like Bowser's beginning battle in this game, if you hack your power in Paper Mario to do damage to beginning Bowser after he turns invincible, you'll softlock the game. Lanky is objectively the best Kong.
I actually didn't know Rookie was Bowser when I first played this. I only found out after Rookie remembers who he is.

I loved this run! I watched it while my mother and sister were packing our bags to go home from vacation, if I recall correctly. :P

When I first played this game, I had no idea what the stache stat actually did, but I upgraded it almost every level. Nothing beats a good 'stache.
I just finished this game normally again for the eleventyth time yesterday because it was a favorite as a kid. Thought there wasn’t a speedrun community for this game, boy was I wrong.
Also that Cackletta soul fight is even more horrifying now lmao. Although recently with the Mush Badge I was able to win in like 7-8 turns. Wish I knew about it when I was younger :/

Ah yes, almost forgot to mention that part in Dream Team where (*spoiler alert*) the Zeekeeper turned the dream stone into a shower of endless(?) coins on Pi'illo Island, and I was like, "Yeah good going wrecking the island's economy, Featherbrain! Jolly good first step you gave them!" =P
Imagine the money route for this game is just hitting Luigi in the nuts

Alta runs the game on a Gamecube controller and if his explanation for his RPG Limit Break run applies to this run too, he does a 2-finger mashing technique on the A button.
As a kid, that boss fight was the absolute worst. Took me a few days to accomplish it & I felt like I hit the lottery when I finally won it lol happy to see it being played & ran still!

As much as I love SS, BIS will probably always be my favorite, and I do believe it's objectively the best.
I like the sequels better than the original tbh
Derricault Gameplay wise, the sequels are miles better, imo; but Superstar Saga definitely has the best characters and dialogue, and is by far the most unique of all of them; which is why I'm super excited for the remake to bring the gameplay up to speed.

If that many mushrooms with the Mush Badge adds 13 damage, then apparently the Mush Badge allows the bros to reach a minimum of a not-normally-obtainable 0 damage due to the Mush Badge boost making that not be 0 damage, as some attacks (Chopper Bros. after a certain amount of hits, counterattacking Dark Bowletta's Star Storm) were dealing 13 damage, the Mush Badge boost.
Like he said in the video, the mush badge *multiplies* the damage that would have been delt after defensive calculations, NOT adds to the damage.
can't even tell me how many goddamn times I played this game, didn't know what a "speedrun" when i played it, but I still adore this game, and I might start running it. :)
Oh my god I love this game. Both the GBA and 3DS versions. The GBA version has more charm to it, but the 3DS version has a lot of additional content.
came across that red pepper glitch yesterday by accident. Except I used bowsers fist instead when it was active. I noticed how it kept the bonus even though it didn't say it was so I took priority of that on Cacklettas soul who was a pain for whatever reason. I remember her being a cake walk when I used to play this but nowadays it's different.
The battle theme in this game is my favorite part lol

Love the music in this game. Reminds me so much of the KH2 soundtrack, more so than her other works.
It actually IS possible to survive cacklettas fire spin as Luigi you just have to time it right. I was playing on virtual console as well and my Mario died and kackletta used her fire spin but I was too salty to restart the fight so I loaded the restore point about 100 times and finally beat her dam fire spin attack as solo Luigi x.x
+tofuzoo52 It's impossible to avoid the fastest version of fire spin as solo Luigi when Cackletta's below 50% health. When she is above 50% it's possible to avoid fire spin but it's very difficult.
In Joke's end, at the part right after the little minigame with the blocks, there is a little yellow platform. You're supposed to stand on it with Mario and have Luigi hit it from underneath, but if you have Luigi hit it and then have Mario walk on it, Mario will fall through it. You'd think you could go back a few rooms and have Luigi go under a grate, but no, for some reason, Mario is unable to hit the yellow platform. This happened to me on my most recent playthrough of this game, and i was super pissed.

I've beaten this game so many times and it's so easy now I am struggling a bit with Paper Jam the bosses have tons of HP and there are no broken items in it that I've seen but I can wait to see the glitches in it.
How do you have the game?

You know, I really never thought of this before now, concerning the exchange rate of Mushroom coins to Beanbean coins, but, I gotta say it now: Based on this, Beanbean Kingdom's economy must be pretty solid, while Mushroom Kingdom's must be positively broken! (Hey, just like America's!) ^)^ (Oh come on, you know it's true! Or at least something's wrong with it. Just look into how much the dollar has inflated over the last several decades, then the last several years!) =P
from the visuals, it seems like the runner is missing Mario's final command in Knockback Bros. against Cackletta's heart intentionally. Does high damage trigger time consuming counterattack or something?
+Zero SSOX Cackletta has different attack phases at 100%, 75%, 50%, and 25% health. I intentionally avoid the 25% attacks because they take the longest and they are the most difficult to avoid. She takes four turns to kill anyway so avoiding the strongest attacks is ideal.
During the final battle you can actually hit Cackletta's giant energy ball multiple times when she attacks Luigi, ending the attack quicker, you just have to time it correctly. I dunno if that makes much of a difference in a speedrun.

+SDQuad6 There's 2 main issues that were brought up apparently:
1. Some audio issues (such as unsynced or such)
2. Opening time-cards.

Is damage during bros attacks calculated by Mario & Luigi's own attack stats when they do the hits or is it only based on the bro initiating the bros attack?
lizzyvainne Just trying to get the mechanics down sine I'm playing paper jam now and am trying to dedicate what each bro does. Mario is naturally strong and has high BP, while Luigi has much HP and def. Paper Mario is multi hitter but isn't amazingly strong. I hope the mechanics are the same on this front. So when I use Mario's bros attacks Luigi's damage output in those are determined by Mario's power?
lizzyvainne I looked on wiki but couldn't find much on the mechanics for bros attacks other than how the button presses work.
+KoopaXross Bros attacks are calculated based on which bro is making the connecting hit, not necessarily whose turn it is. Chopper Bros and Knockback Bros both use Mario's power because Mario is the one hitting the enemy at the end of the attack. This is why I only need to buy a Mush Badge for Mario instead of both of them.
Paper Jam as far as I know is based on whose turn it is.
