    Thanks for having me on. I feel like we didn’t explore the thermal lit enough. Although I just feel like skin tones weren’t accurate on that one.

    For years and years I've been a commercial photographer. Began shooting some video maybe 10 years ago. I immediately checked out all the LUTs on premiere pro and never thought of it as being lazy or cheating. I think this comes from my experience shooting digital stills. There are so many good Adobe Photo Shop plugins that adjust your flat looking TIF files. I personally use something called Alien Skin that changes your images color/saturation/contrast/sharpness. It is meant to mimic film. I use it on every job (just sent out jpgs to client twenty minutes ago and adjusted the selects with Alien Skin). And I use them in combination just as you were explaining for your method using LUTs with video clips. Like the content.

    5:37 -- These are SO good and it's ridiculous how he only charges like $25 for all of them. I have every over-priced LUT package but I keep coming back to these.

    This is incredibly helpful. I know I'm coming to this video a couple years late but you mention that the Mark Bone LUTs need a different exposure than the rest of them seem to. Any idea what that exposure level is? If you don't remember the specifics, is the general idea that you need to expose your footage brighter than, say,. the +1.7 used for Phantom LUTs? Thank you for any insight.

      @@SoundItOutFilms What's your go to utility LUT that you used in all these creative lut tests in this video?

  • @SeanWirz
    @SeanWirz 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Great video, thanks! A question tho: do you always use the lumetri adjustments (exposure, highlights, shadows etc.) post conform-LUT? It looks like it in the video. I think it's a major logic error with the lumetri panel, bcs the faders, curves and wheels shld be pre conform-LUT, so above and not under the LUT drop down. I usually put two adjustment layers stacked on top of each other as the two highest layers in my sequence. Very top is for gamma 2.2 / 2.4 conversion (just very recently learned about this) and conform-LUT as well as any grain or dither I might add. Then I lock this layer for good. Below that layer is my "grade layer". With a second Lumetri on this lower adj layer I play with the faders and all other options to achieve a look. The results are so much better, since you can actually recover highlights and shadows. This grade layer is for a general grade for all shots (of the same camera / same log profile). And if necessary and if time allows (!), I then put a Lumetri effect on each sepparate clip to fine tune. The confusing thing about all of this is, that in the Lumetri panel the order of stuff adjusting the image is from the top down and in the sequence (stacked layers), as well as in the effects window (stacked effects), it's the opposite: from bottom up.

      @@SoundItOutFilms Looks like you need to update your LUT showdown yet again! I'm testing them on some CLog3 footage from an R6, and my snap feeling is they aren't as magical as they are on SLog3 footage. I'll have to test on C70 CLog2 soon.

    From log straight to creative lut? Without the proprietary rev 709 conversion, shooting log is useless because you're not extracting the entire range shot by log.

      He sold them as a 'combo LUT', using someone else's base LUT.
