    P3 can handle a light crop with upgraded PTO spline but the single plate standard clutch is always going to make it less than nice work.

    That's a nice country scene, and most enjoyable to watch.

    Great video. Do you think the tef20 would handle it?

    It just shows you, you don't need a huge tractor to power a (conventional) baler. (Apart from the fact the driver might feel as if he is on horseback!) By the way, those bales seem a little bit short.

      This might sound like bullshit but my grandfather over here in Australia used to drive an early inter baler with a Farmall a he said it drove it ok but with the plunger going back and forth it used to lift the front wheels off the ground so he traded it in on a h which I still have today

    Nice clip I had one of these conversion tractors when i was a chap It wasnt as fresh as yours , the lack of live drive doesnt seem to be a problem to you, Surely those tractors werent Massey Harris the take over didnt happen till well after they finished being produced

      @@fizzbuck1 That seems quite feasible as Massey-Harris merged with the Ferguson Company in 1953 to become Massey-Harris-Ferguson, before finally taking on its current name in 1958.
      We bought a new 1100 in 1969 and quite a few of the parts on it (e.g. the drawbar) were stamped {MHF}

    Massey Harris actually merged with Ferguson, in 1953, not the late 50s.
    Originally, the newly formed organisation was called Massey Harris Ferguson, then shortened to Massey Ferguson in late 1957, the new entity officially becoming so properly from 1958 onward, with machinery rebadged as such.

    This is a Ferguson mate , the Harry Ferguson Company was nothing to do with Massey - Harris until the takeover in the late 1950,s , then , for a while , Massey - Harris - Ferguson , the Perkins p3 engine conversion gave these little (& on Harry Ferguson,s insistence , light ) tractors more umph (power ) & to the owner,s satisfaction , just one kind of fuel to keep , & better fuel economy , the original spark ign engine was a copy , slightly modified , of an american hercules engine , simple , fairly reliable for it,s time , but thirsty . It suffered from only a poor , basic quality carburettor being availlable when the majority of these were built , on some later M-H-F 35,s , a different Solex 28G carb was fitted , superb! We had one on an old 701 baler , it ran faultlessly all day baling on about 10 gallons of T.V.O. (remember that ) . For the driver here , if it helps at all , a company I have dealt with supplied me with a strong freewheel device that roll - pins on to the end of the 1 - 1/8" p.t.o. shaft , this enables the tractor to drive the baler , but the baler , during an over - run situation , can,t drive the tractor on forwards via the gearbox , it also turns the shaft into the now universal 1 - 3/8" end size , this avoids getting shoved straight in the hedge on ends & corners , the company was Old 20 Parts Co , Shardlow , Derby , England . I,ll leave the rest with you . This engine is about 35 H.P. , the T.E.F. was I believe about 25 , so you,d be struggling to run this baler with one . Best Regs from a lifelong Ferguson & Massey - Ferguson afficionado .

      I think it was seeing how well those diesel conversions worked with The Perkins engine convinced MF to use the 3 cylinder Perkins 152 in the later MF 35 as the 4 cylinder Standard 23C they used in the FE35 had a few problems ( Bad starters in cold weather for example). The P3 certainly had more guts than the Standard engine that was fitted to The TEF, l have heard the P3 conversions were well known for snapping PTO shafts as the original 1 1/8" shaft fitted to the tractor couldn't cope with the extra torque when rotovating for example.
