Players were not up to pace. New signings will probably start next week. Squad has been together 10 days. Villa for a year. Manager will sort it. Very hard start. 2nd half better could have got a draw. Hard start 3 point s fom them acceptable. Beat Palace and good start
JWP is not a top half premier league player. He’s just not good enough
Soucek made 10 passes in 100 minutes that was the length of the match,1 pass every 10 minutes of which he had 50% completion.Those stats are nothing short of embarrassing and we will win no games if he stays in our midfield Frankie.
Julian defo got it wrong. Those "wrongs" were evident after every Counterpunch. 3 "wrong" players. & "wrong" tactics pushing high with so many SLOW players.
Soucek must not start in this team. He gives you zero control in midfield
Good review Frankie and talking points; I think there were a number of issues, AWB having a slight knock, Todibo having lack of training time with first team players, likes of Bowen and Paq still not up to speed/match fitness, some players having a bad game (Antonio), and mostly JLo sticking to the players that he has used throughout the pre-season, plus we shouldnt discount Villa who are a good balanced side - lets see what he does when we face Palace, where some of these issues should get resolved and there should be a change in line-up and hopefully in fortune

I agree with your line up... That's what I'd choose. I don't think anyone can say Lopetegui got it wrong. He hasn't had enough time to give the existing players a fair try. We as fans know where there are, weaknesses but if the coach is to keep to his word and say every player starts on a, fresh page, then he's got to see it for himself. We haven't even finished signing players yet, there's injured players, ones he has to choose to sell, integrating new players, and waiting for some existing players that came back late to get match fit. That's an awful lot of work,, especially when you're implementing a new style of play. Hopefully he'd have seen enough against Villa to work out who he doesn't want and get more players ready. Let's all be patient.
I think the club got it wrong in regards of Duran,I'd have paid the money for him
You guys should have more subs …. great channel JLo has a plan , knows the current squad , knows what needs to improve , he’s a much better coach than Moyes

Lot written below about JL getting it wrong. He's a different manager who can have a different impact on players. One game and people are jumping off the wagon. After one season, Emery was lambasted as a crap manager by Arsenal fans (and no doubt a lot of west ham fans), yet it took 3 years of patience for Arteta to get it right. Now look at Villa. Seems a few people have short memories. Patience, folks.
The fans don't see how players perform on the training ground. The coach takes that into account... Fans don't! 🛠🛠🛠

When Villa roll Arsenal this weekend we may look at last weekend a bit differently. Villa are a top side and we have just begun the JL story.
It was a week too early against a potential top 4 team. Things will improve. We need to dump 5 or so old guard and buy a couple more to be a fantastic window. Then a great cup run and a top 6 place.

Starting line-up 3/4 defenders held 70 goals last season.. you don't go with that if you have quality on the bench..
First 30mins was dreadful, and we were lucky to get the penalty and go into half-time

He needs to get it right on Saturday afternoon.
I think that’s incredibly harsh - if JL played every new player we signed and we lost, the reaction would have been “why did he throw the new players in straight away!”
Give him time, 10-15 games and we will start to see a more consistent XI with the signings integrated and settled.
You’re also discrediting Villa, they performed well and will be candidates for European football again this season
@BabblingIrons he played every OG player, and we lost.. shipping 2 goals and 10 in pre season with defenders who can't defend..
What did we learn at the weekend...that the OG are not good enough and major changes are needed

He made many mistakes Frankie but there were encouraging signs compared to Moyes version of things.Team selection wrong,formation and tactics v Villa wrong he was schooled by Emery for periods of the game but not all of the game.Subs too late and too much time between his changes and Emerys changes.Making Bowen on reflection I think will be a mistake as big as Moyes mistake making Zouma captain last season was.Imhope he is able to address the mistakes he made and quickly ,ie by Palace game to be honest.Picking Soucek was age mistake,along with Coufal it almost mean Moyes legacy remains and goes when the Czech pair go,sooner the better for me.
I don’t think anyone is writing him off yet and everyone will give him time, but you said your self, he got it wrong so is open to criticism.
The frustration was it was obviously wrong, every fan who saw that line up knew we were in trouble . Yes playing new players was a risk but a 50/50 risk is better than the 90%chance of failure that team was.

I think it’s just he wanted a mixture of new and old based off pre-season. The main 3 new signings that didn’t feature were signed a week before the Villa game. Let’s give Lopetegui some time!

He was no one’s first choice but c’mon you may be exaggerating slightly 😉
His task at Wolves was to keep them up, which he did, he finished 4th in Spain, won the Europa cup, managed the Spanish national side and Real Madrid. If you liked Moyes you should love this guy, he’s the slightly better Spanish version 🤣
Let’s not make rash opinions after one game. Personally I don’t think I could watch another Moyes in charge game. And was willing to take a chance on another manager. We will be ok. Keep positive
