Antonio should be starting from the bench.... Lucas and kudus kind of balling will always play Antonio of beat all the time. Antonio should be doing the mobb up role. Kudus and Bowen in the attack can do the magic.
You are right. They need to bond in training and get to know how to play with each other and what they all bring to the party. This what happens when your signing players late and not using pre-seasons games to do that. We need to keep claim right now. We must relax and let them bond together. Villa had this, we did not.there will be more mistakes. We are like a baby who is learning to walk. It takes time.
Thanks for sharing your second thoughts. I'm looking forward to our next match with relish. I'm not going to get drawn into looking for the worst in a few teething issues that any club might have; I need to save my breath for blowing bubble of hope - we've got the whole season ahead! I will be excited to see more of the new signings and watch how our style of play develops. 👍🏼 ⚒
Very good assessment Stel. Let us see the new signing match fit and integrated before making any judgements. In my view, after all the International tournaments this summer, the season should have been delayed for a week or two to enable the players involved to get fit for the new domestic season. I don't think it is fair to the clubs who pay their wages and I don't just mean WHU. Unbelievably, I notice that after a few games to get our squad together and fully fit, we have yet another unwanted International break to disrupt things. I was brought up on Saturday afternoon domestic football and to me it is still the best and most exciting form of the game. In my view there is far too much International football and I very seldom watch it unless our own players feature.
Stel... you are the voice of reason. So much knee jerk over the top reactions have been going on after that first match. I said pre-match that fitness would dictate who would start, and who wouldn't. We were missing AWB, Alvarez, Fullkrug, Summerville and Bowen and Paqueta only came back 2 weeks ago and have had no pre season and clearly could not play the full 90 - yet people were only too happy to jump on Lopetegui's back because he had no choice but to sub them. Would they prefer they played 90 minutes and picked up a muscle injury due to lack of fitness? Villa are a much more settled side and who are accustomed to how the manager wants to play. We have had 6 weeks. People need to be patient, and therein lies the problem. They have no patience anymore, they have no idea what goes on on the training ground, the fitness of the players etc yet pretend tat we can put out a full side that is 100% match fit and fully up to speed with the managers tactics in the first match of the season.
Good summary of the game. I was a bit worried about your instant match analysis, especially Dinos, but the subs did weaken our side because Villa's subs pushed up for the win! They were better than us and we are just starting, let's see after 6-10 games and see how we are!
Excellent summary Stel agree with pretty much all of that. We will get better as the new boys get bedded in and the old guard drops to the bench. I hope. I also thought Dinos actually did pretty well (despite a few wobbles) and we’re going to need strength in depth over the course of the season. We missed Álvarez in midfield and as much as I love the Czech Mates it’s time to move on. COYI
Well balanced considered summary as ever Stel👍🏼I was surprised how much time we gave them on the ball in first half backing off etc felt like deja vous! Soft pen but it gave the team a much needed boost. Kilman looked decent and Todibo looked a beast.. Antonio was antonio but you could hear Lop getting frustrated as game went on so dont think he will start next game unless he does wonders in training.... HoweverRome wasnt built in a day ⚒️COYI
Expectations were riding high due to the transfer business but we need to be patient, most right thinking people know that this will take time but at the moment pace is a concern for me….
Stel - what do you do with Kudus? You build the team around him to maximise his talent and time on the ball. You move players around to accommodate him - he's that good. If JLO wastes this talent such that he gets frustrated and wants out it will be criminal. Given the right platform to shine the lad will be world class & score for fun.

Think JLo and his staff need to address the elephant in the room sooner rather than later. Opinions vary but as far as I'm concerned it was the 6th game of JLo's reign. I know the conventional wisdom is that "pre-season doesn't count" - especially when you're turned over by Palace and Wolves, eh? But let's take a closer look. JLo would have been well aware of WHU conceding 74 goals last season. One would imagine his IMMEDIATE task would be stop the leaks. WHU conceded 10 goals in pre-season and 2 yesterday, that's 12 goals in 6 games. Extrapolate that into 38 games and we are back to 76.
