My mother had hypertension all her life, they restricted her salt, tried every medication it never helped. When they diagnosed me with hypertension I restricted my salt but I refused the medication. Then I changed to the Keto diet and increased my salt. Hypertension went away.
If your obese that is the reason for hypertension keto works. My Grandfather was thin as a rail he had super high BP ran in his family he jogged until he was in his 70's 5 miles a day. Then he switched to a stationary bike still even with all that still had to be on BP meds. Eventually when he got into his 90's had to put a pace maker in because meds would sometimes drop him too low. He did live to 98 years old was still driving a car he came out of a fabric store where they were getting a couch repaired dropped in the parking lot from a heart attack. He never needed any nursing home or even a nurse to come to their house that's the way I want to live only do it with good health practices and exercising.

Yet some old school doctors are stuck in the old way of thinking.
I was diagnosed with high blood pressure last year and told to reduce my salt intake without being asked what I eat, which at the time was freshly harvested veg from my garden and fresh unprocessed meat on healthy keto. I added very little salt to my food. I ignored her. I suggested the issue was my very stressful job which I have now retired from and feel great. No more high blood pressure.
I've been on keto for 2 years and had been taking blood pressure medicine for 15. Last checkup my doctor took me off the medicine and my pressure is much better than it ever was while on the med even through I'm eating more salt. Thank you Dr. Berry for all the great advice.
Every since I started carnivore, I freely salt my food. I went to the doctor yesterday and my blood pressure was 117/77. Never been that low! Salt does not cause high BP.

My Dad loved salt and as a quadruple bypass patient they were always on him about it, he had AFIB and high blood pressure but he wouldn't give up his salt! When he got Alz. and went to a home, they said, why make him take these meds? Statins etc. so we had them take him off them. His blood pressure went back to normal right away!!!!!!!! I don't know what he ate there but he died of pneumonia, not heart disease! When I think of all the years it plagued him, if only we'd known...thx Dr Ken for educating us!
Low carb and keto have been the only thing that has saved me from being disabled by excruciating migraines. Dr Turknett has information on it. I think it works similarly to keto for epilepsy.
I only get migraines a couple times a year and they’re usually around the same time of the year. Maybe it has something to do with salt. I’ve only been keto since July 2021 and only had one migraine in that time shortly after starting but i havent had anything since. I guess i have to monitor a little closer.
I wonder if i should tell my grandmother about how eating cereal, low-fat yoghurt, cheese, low fat meat and a lot of starches (potatoes, rice, pasta), 7-up (a soft drink) really is terrible. But i know she wouldn’t understand it. Being taught all these inaccurate health concept’s permanently causes entrenchment, especially in a 76 year old. Shed listen then completely forget, or think I’m talking about fad diets that some stupid celebrity follows. Intermittent fasting would probably start up the typical “but breakfast is the most important meal of the day” “its unhealthy to not eat” “thats an eating disorder you should get help”. It doesn’t help that all Maltese traditional recipes include some form of pasta, rice or potato. But i still love her a lot.

Same! My grandmother died from kidney failure. I was so young then but I remember my mother saying that she followed what her doctor said and never sought outside opinions. I wonder if she would have eliminated her issues with different medical advice
I live in Poland, not far from Wieliczka Salt Mine. I am happy to see that mine on your list of salts! I have been using it exclusively for a couple of years now. I absolutely love the flavor of it! I am quite generous with it on my food. I even melt down dark chocolate bars and pour into a mold, then top it with the salt. It is the best! I have shipped the salt to friends in the States for them to enjoy as well.

I have CHF and I still eat a lot more salt than my doctor wants me to. My theory is if I do not have edema, I am fine. The keto diet keeps my edema under control. Somebody who eats the SAD diet with CHF may not be able to do this. I know an excess of carboHYDRATEs results in a lot of edema. When I was in the hospital with ventricular tachycardia, they wouldn't let me salt my eggs, but would hang a liter of normal saline?????? I pointed out how silly that was and the nurse agreed with me.
@armadillotoe I have CHF too and i also eat a lot of salt, i believed that it does not give you high blood pressure. The real salt is different from the salt from processed foods. I do IF and in keto too and salt is very essential to balance out potassium, calcium and magnesium electrolytes. There is no study that ever existed that salt causes high BP. I so agree with you.
I’m so glad I found your video. I have had HBP for a long long time. Have been told by docs to stop using salt. Even recently they told me this. Take there meds and Cholesterol meds. Never used much salt at all. I even stoped it when I cooked. And still can’t my numbers down. For about 5 or more years I took 2 different meds. Never brought my numbers down and felt lousy. Stopped them finally myself, and started feeling better. Lost over 40 lbs last winter with no luck at lowering it.
I grew up on the lowest sodium diet as possible. My mother had early onset hypertension and still thinks it’s caused by salt. I vowed I would never follow such a restrictive way of eating. I use Redmond’s also.
I keep several types of salt. A pinch goes a long way. I stay away from processed food that has excessive salt for reasons other than flavor (preservative).
A few months ago, I was having problems passing out. My family doctor sent me to a heart specialist, and she told me I needed more salt in my diet. She gave me a 3 month prescription for a pill that makes my body hold on to more sodium. Plus, I started adding salt to my food. It's been 7 months since then, and I haven't had any more episodes.
I had 2-doctors tell me to adhere to the Dash Diet, 1,500-grams of sodium per day or less. Before I tried it I occasionally would have leg cramps at night. On the Dash Diet I would have leg cramps almost every night. I don't restrict my salt intake or do I over do it and I feel fine.

Been on the carnivore diet about 6 weeks and have very high blood pressure until I watched Dr Ken Berry and the importance of salt in this diet. I found I was grossly neglecting the salt shaker these last weeks and it affected my BP negatively. Yesterday I added a teaspoon of salt to a half gal of water container and drank that through out the day. Today I checked my pressure and its well in the healthy range. Thanks Doc!
I have the same problem. Week 2 on Carnivore and i've found my blood pressure, especially the diastolic number, has gone up. I don't think i'm salting my food enough, so going to try and increase mine this week and see how it affects it.. hopefully improves it! Thanks for sharing
Yes! I have a congestive heart, I was told to not have salt. I still to this day salt my food to taste and I am Type 2 diabetic. I put salt on my scrambled eggs and home fries from the local diner. Dr Berry, I just listened to you and the author of The Salt Fix. I have learned from yall that my husbands symptom of dizziness which not one doctor has helped him with is caused by not enough salt. He always thinks food is too salty. He has been diagnosed with high blood pressure and high cholesterol . At one time several years ago he had atrial flutter and had to be zapped. He takes meds that regulate his heart rate.We are both on keto really thinking about going carnivore. We both take antidepressants and Im on onemprazle and had my gall bladder removed. We both get leg cramps and I get leg spasms. Im on gabapentin for tailbone pain.Pain doctor said tail bone thin but is sturdy. We are 66 and 65 and we watch a lot of your You Tube. Ding ding ding, we have a winner! The bonus fact about pets needing salt. I switched my golden retriever to a mainly raw meat diet for food allergy reasons/experiment. She was having a hard time with digesting this raw unsalted food. I ran across some good advice from a vet about salting dogs raw food. Completely, %100, fixed her digestive problems. They NEED the salt for bile production, which, once you know the connection, is obviously very important for digesting such foods properly.

So salt quality, that does make sense. My arthritis got so much worse when I increased my salt. But it's probably junk salt. I reduced salt and my arthritis went down a noticeably. My arthritis was completely gone from the carnivore diet until I increase that jump salt. I don't know if it's true , but I read online that you can get increase in Arthritis from too much salt. If you have owned horses or dogs, you will recognise the taste and desire for salt that these animals will respond to. My favourite way of getting salt is through heated salty butter. It's my favourite food of all. Even above bacon.
I use Redmond's salt out of Utah! It's the very best salt I've found. Dr James DiNicolantonio wrote a book about salt called "The Salt Fix" several years ago which says we need more salt than we're getting, but we need to stop the sugar. Works for me. 😋

Let me get this straight if you eat carbs you will store water hence elevating blood pressure and if you add salt to the mix that means increased amount of water held in the body, hence higher blood pressure...?
Also, people dont realize that a lot of pharmaceuticals can cause hyponatremia(low sodium). My mom had chronic low sodium and they never figured out why. I looked at side effects of some of her meds and hyponatremia is a "rare" effect from many meds.
I am currently doing carnivore/fasting for weight loss. I am aware that plants can't run, produce toxins for defense. The question I have is are the same toxins present in fruits like an apple. An apple seems to me to be designed to be eaten by an animal to spread the seeds.

Thanks for a great channel. I recently had an oxalate kidney stone removed. The urologist told me to cut out all foods that contain oxalate and reduce salt to a minimum. After this I decided to do carnivore diet and am 2 weeks into it. Do I need to be concerned? One bit of info you gave in this video about not consuming enough salt is that it raises the sugar level. I had tests done in the last week that shows I have high sugar levels.... I don't use any sugar or eat fruit. Now I begin to understand the salt function a bit better.

It has always been my philosophy that people seemed to go downhill health wise after their “dr” recommended they reduce their salt intake. I have hashimotos thyroid disorder and thank god that I have always loved my salt 🧂 and never believed the lies

I get face puffing and all over swelling when I eat salt, any kind of salt and I have tried them all. 3 to 5 libs overnight in gain. AGH! ankles and legs swell almost immediately and legs and foot cramps at night.. AGH. Can some of us just not have salt? Do you think Hashimotos has anything to do with that? Iodine does it to me too, legs will swell to double in size rapidly.

When I go too heavy on the salt my eyes swell up, my joints swell and hurt. I feel a lot better when I cut down on salt. Salt may be good for the young but at age 73, I do better without salt.
My comprehensive metabolic panel came back with sodium, chloride, and potassium all at the high end of the "normal range". I've been supplementing 200mg potassium and taking pinches of himalayan salt throughout the day. Should I stop ?

I do IF and in keto too and salt is very essential to balance out potassium, calcium and magnesium electrolytes. There is no study that ever existed that salt causes high BP. I so agree with you.

I’m so glad I found your video. I have had HBP for a long long time. Have been told by docs to stop using salt. Even recently they told me this. Take there meds and Cholesterol meds. Never used much salt at all. I even stoped it when I cooked. And still can’t my numbers down. For about 5 or more years I took 2 different meds. Never brought my numbers down and felt lousy. Stopped them finally myself, and started feeling better. Lost over 40 lbs last winter with no luck at lowering it.
I grew up on the lowest sodium diet as possible. My mother had early onset hypertension and still thinks it’s caused by salt. I vowed I would never follow such a restrictive way of eating. I use Redmond’s also.

I keep several types of salt. A pinch goes a long way. I stay away from processed food that has excessive salt for reasons other than flavor (preservative).
A few months ago, I was having problems passing out. My family doctor sent me to a heart specialist, and she told me I needed more salt in my diet. She gave me a 3 month prescription for a pill that makes my body hold on to more sodium. Plus, I started adding salt to my food. It's been 7 months since then, and I haven't had any more episodes.

I use both pink and Morton's Lite Salt (for potassium). I also take 1 drop of Lugol's iodine solution in my morning coffee/tea
I had 2-doctors tell me to adhere to the Dash Diet, 1,500-grams of sodium per day or less. Before I tried it I occasionally would have leg cramps at night. On the Dash Diet I would have leg cramps almost every night. I don't restrict my salt intake or do I over do it and I feel fine.
The Dash Diet was invented, yes, invented in the 1990s, nearly 30 years ago.
That tells you when your doctor last did research.

My late husband's doctors restricted salt from his diet, too, because of congestive heart failure. I wish we had never listened to them. He also had diabetes. He had swelling and leg cramps when salt was restricted.

I have never been afraid of salt the way many people are. I've always salted to taste but recently I've been using a lot more than usual. I discovered that lots of salt helps me not want to jackhammer people in the face every five minutes. Who knew?!

Been on the carnivore diet about 6 weeks and have very high blood pressure until I watched Dr Ken Berry and the importance of salt in this diet. I found I was grossly neglecting the salt shaker these last weeks and it affected my BP negatively. Yesterday I added a teaspoon of salt to a half gal of water container and drank that through out the day. Today I checked my pressure and its well in the healthy range. Thanks Doc!
I have the same problem. Week 2 on Carnivore and i've found my blood pressure, especially the diastolic number, has gone up. I don't think i'm salting my food enough, so going to try and increase mine this week and see how it affects it.. hopefully improves it! Thanks for sharing
Yes! I have a congestive heart, I was told to not have salt. I still to this day salt my food to taste and I am Type 2 diabetic. I put salt on my scrambled eggs and home fries from the local diner. I love the taste of salt. I just hate to think I am making a mistake with all this. I did share this with my sister (A nurse of 25 plus years) and she still follows the standard party line

Dr Berry, I just listened to you and the author of The Salt Fix. I have learned from yall that my husbands symptom of dizziness which not one doctor has helped him with is caused by not enough salt. He always thinks food is too salty. He has been diagnosed with high blood pressure and high cholesterol . At one time several years ago he had atrial flutter and had to be zapped. He takes meds that regulate his heart rate.We are both on keto really thinking about going carnivore. We both take antidepressants and Im on onemprazle and had my gall bladder removed. We both get leg cramps and I get leg spasms. Im on gabapentin for tailbone pain.Pain doctor said tail bone thin but is sturdy. We are 66 and 65 and we watch a lot of your You Tube. Thankyou and Neisha for all you do. I feel your info is an answer to prayer. Also ive purchased the The Salt Fix a d several years ago your book , Lies My Docor told me.
Ding ding ding, we have a winner! The bonus fact about pets needing salt. I switched my golden retriever to a mainly raw meat diet for food allergy reasons/experiment. She was having a hard time with digesting this raw unsalted food. I ran across some good advice from a vet about salting dogs raw food. Completely, %100, fixed her digestive problems. They NEED the salt for bile production, which, once you know the connection, is obviously very important for digesting such foods properly.

Salt is a mineral that your body needs. Salt is stored in your bones. When you don't have enough salt, the body takes it from the bones and when it is depleted even from your bones, you can drop dead in just one day. The problem is people take refined salts and restaurants use refined salts. Most people do not know what type of salt is good. I add half a teaspoon of salt with my breakfast daily and do not have pressure problems. The good salts to use are Maldon Sea Salt, Celtic Sea Salt, Redmond's Kosher Real Sea Salt, Icelandic Flake Salt, Fleur de Sel Salt and Unprocessed Rock Salt. This is the reason why God made the sea salty. Just taste your blood and it is salty. Even my pet parakeet on my shoulder will drink my sweat because it knows how important it is. In the old days, people barter trade using salt. Caffeine is a huge salt waster and coffee drinkers must add salt to their meals daily to stay healthy. So salt quality, that does make sense. My arthritis got so much worse when I increased my salt. But it's probably junk salt. I reduced salt and my arthritis went down a noticeably. My arthritis was completely gone from the carnivore diet until I increase that jump salt. I don't know if it's true , but I read online that you can get increase in Arthritis from too much salt. Thank you Dr Berry. A real wake up call is watching a video about how much length goats will go to in order to get salt. If you have owned horses or dogs, you will recognise the taste and desire for salt that these animals will respond to. My favourite way of getting salt is through heated salty butter. It's my favourite food of all. Even above bacon.
I use Redmond's salt out of Utah! It's the very best salt I've found. Dr James DiNicolantonio wrote a book about salt called "The Salt Fix" several years ago which says we need more salt than we're getting, but we need to stop the sugar. Works for me. 😋

Also, people dont realize that a lot of pharmaceuticals can cause hyponatremia(low sodium). My mom had chronic low sodium and they never figured out why. I looked at side effects of some of her meds and hyponatremia is a "rare" effect from many meds.
I am currently doing carnivore/fasting for weight loss. I am aware that plants can't run, produce toxins for defense. The question I have is are the same toxins present in fruits like an apple. An apple seems to me to be designed to be eaten by an animal to spread the seeds.

I recently had an oxalate kidney stone removed. The urologist told me to cut out all foods that contain oxalate and reduce salt to a minimum.

Since seeing one of your previous videos I have started using salt and boy does it make food taste better! I use the same salt that you mention. I get face puffing and all over swelling when I eat salt, any kind of salt and I have tried them all. 3 to 5 libs overnight in gain. AGH! ankles and legs swell almost immediately and legs and foot cramps at night.. AGH. Can some of us just not have salt? Do you think Hashimotos has anything to do with that? Iodine does it to me too, legs will swell to double in size rapidly.

When I go too heavy on the salt my eyes swell up, my joints swell and hurt. I feel a lot better when I cut down on salt. Salt may be good for the young but at age 73, I do better without salt.

My comprehensive metabolic panel came back with sodium, chloride, and potassium all at the high end of the "normal range". I've been supplementing 200mg potassium and taking pinches of himalayan salt throughout the day. Should I stop ?
