- I just got a NOS Tandy Color Computer 3, and for #septandy (more like #OcTandy) got an upgrade CPU provided by @JoesComputerMuseum but things didn't go as intended...

Javier, you've plugged the monitor into audio out port which is the one near the reset switch. It's marked on back of the top cover but you have cover off so you don't see it.
Hi Javier. I'm pretty sure that you connected your monitor to the audio out of the CoCo 3, the other jack is the composite video out. I couldn't really tell if you had switched it over so if you hadn't, switch it over and test it out. Your CoCo might be a live after all!
Also, you can check if the CoCo is responsive by blind typing "MOTOR ON" and then "MOTOR OFF". These commands will engage and disengage the cassette relay producing an audible click.
The new CPU has a green dot. It has to be good! HA. The green dot means I checked it and found it to be working.
Try putting the original 6809 CPU back in the socket you installed and see if the CoCo 3 works. If so, the upgraded 6309 CPU is bad and if not, maybe you have a shorted pin. Check your soldering under the board and make sure no pins are connected / shorted with solder blobs.
I was going to say the same thing. Hope you get it all working, Javier
Thanks, I need to test all the traces. Just my luck...
@@ARCJavMaster I just did this exact same upgrade on my CoCo 3. You have to be very careful with the traces. I'm sure you'll get it sorted.
The extraction of the original CPU is actually a delicate task even when one is being careful. I actually ended up lifting a pad when I did mine and had to use a patch wire to repair it. I would assume that the problem in this case is either related to damages being done during the removal of the original CPU or some issue with the socket. It is doubtful that the new CPU is the problem but you could be sure by reinstalling the original CPU in the socket and see if that fixes the issue. Good luck!
You can check the continuity of each pin of the socket with a multimeter by inserting a wire in each hole and making sure it conducts thru to the correct solder joint on the back of the board. Also check the voltage going into the CPU.
If your CoCo is damaged, I don't believe it's damaged beyond repair, it might just be a matter of soldering a couple of bodge wires. I recently re-routed(mostly) a replica of this board in KiCAD making every effort to follow the original path the traces took so that the board can be as close as possible to the original PCB. I haven't published that version yet but if you're interested I can send it to you and you can use it to test continuity on the pins where you soldered the new socket.
Also: someone want to tell Javier how to turn on his focus lock? LOL. ;)
Great vid! 👋
For the future, don't use a heat gun like that in the future. Once you got the old CPU out you should have used to solder wick to clean the pads of excess solder. Those heat guns can cook so many parts so easily.
Hello Javier did you try the original IC to see if that one works ?
I made that suggestion as well. If he puts in the original CPU in the socket and it works, his upgraded CPU is toast. If not, he might have shorted a couple of pins when soldering in the socket.
You have the worst luck with these changes...
