My favorite moment of the series in at least the movies was the Quarter Quell interviews. All the tributes united in fighting against the idea culminating in Peetas "announcement" and all the tributes linking hands at the end in unity.

I wil never forget and would like to relive the simple line ”And it’s not me. It’s Primrose Everdeen.” I was hooked then and there.

Finnick and Annie’s wedding is one of my favorite parts weirdly, and I would love to reread that part.

My reaction to Prim’s death made me throw my book across the room cause it’s shocking

The most jarring moment for me besides Prim’s death that I can think of off the top of my head is actually Bogg’s death in Mockingjay. We don’t get to see a lot of it in the movies, but the “Star Squad” was filming propos of the them “fighting” in the capital, but they were all being really ridiculous and having a good time with it so I was shocked when in one paragraph it went from some of the most genuine, at ease interactions we see in Mockingjay to bam, right, this is a war zone.
“Cressida stops us before we can rise, since she needs some closeup shots. We take turns re-enacting our responses. Falling to the ground, grimacing, diving into alcoves. It’s serious business, but the whole thing feels a little ridiculous. Especially when it turns out that I’m not the worst actor in the squad. Not by a long shot. We’re all laughing so hard at Mitchell’s attempt to project his idea of desperation, which involves teeth grinding and nostril flaring, that Boggs has to reprimand us.
“Pull it together, Four-Five-One,” he says firmly. But you can see him suppressing a smile as he’s double-checking the next pod. Positioning the Holo to find the best light in the smoky air. Still facing us as his left foot steps back into the orange paving stone. Triggering the bomb that blows off his legs.”
I was shocked. I had to reread it so many times, I was so jarred. And then by the time I got to Prim’s death, I was seething so much, I didn’t really connect with the rest of the story the first time I read through, but since I have found such a deep connection with it. Mockingjay part 1 is probably my favorite movie, but I absolutely love the epilogue in the last movie. Stunning. It’s just the epitome of peace, something Katniss has been chasing for so long, and even through all of the darkness she’s carried with her, there’s a sense of hope. It’s breathtaking, I can’t rave about it enough 🤣

Oh! And one more! When she walks out (in the books, movie can never capture this moment) and finds all the roses the bombers dropped and just the instant panic and hysteria she feels as she screams, “they’re for me! Don’t touch them, they’re for me!” as if they’re something that can physically hurt her

Totally agree with you re Boggs, that was a humongous shock!! Also thank you for putting the whole section of text, that was a great touch 😊

Coins death was definitely the biggest reaction I’ve ever had while reading a book. It was also crazy to go back and see the foreshadowing that slides under the radar before you know whats happening.

When Gale told Katniss there is no district 12. I thought that he meant that it had NEVER existed. Like, Katniss had imagined it, or the capitol had used a weapon to erase it from everyone's memory but Katniss had rememeberd it. And that Gale had no memory, ot it was just her dream and Katniss ACTUALLY came from 4 or smth

I would have to agree with most of these, as moments most wanted to go back and experience for the first time again. For me I think the top of the list would be Peeta's "she came here with me". The first few times I read the books I didn't understand the depth of them (until several reads later, because they're so rich in detail), but I remember thinking "okay, so we knew Katniss was going into the games and you still want her to win, but how can you kill off Peeta, with a statement like that, and how much would I love for a guy to think that deeply about me". (Spoiler alert, my husband and I didn't meet until after Mockingjay Part 1 was released, and he was okay with me naming our cat Catniss Evermeow)

It's so clear how passionate you are about everything you talk about, that I wish more TH-camrs were as good at doing what you do. Even if someone isn't a fan of the topic you are talking about in the video they quickly feel part of the geekdom because of the skill with which you envelop them in the subject. It's nice that Hunger Games month is here again.
edit - also obviously huge congrats, I hope you're going to be very happy, wishing all the best from the UK

Your hunger games videos are so well thought-out and feel so true to the core of the books (and movies). I absolutely adore them.
Thanks a lot for making them!
    My amount of shock:
    3. Prim was chosen
    2. Peeta is broken and hates her (in the movie: when you see only the empty white room but then the camera zooms in and you see Peeta going crazy was gut-wrenching)
    1. she has to go back to the arena
But all the scenes you picked were overwhelming.
I would maybe add the moment of Katniss taking out the berries. This shock, that there might be a different solution was more like half positive, I guess. You talked about Peetas smart talking during the interviews. And I felt this was one of Katniss's smartest moves so far. Peeta was heartbreaking and romantic but Katniss used blackmail to survive, turns the tide and plays the capitol at their own game.
And the fact that you maybe can't achieve your most wanted goal in the world but at same time you can change the whole world for the better is still one of the strongest messages of the books to me.
All the best for your marriage!

Peeta returning to his old self was kind of shocking even though we see some foreshadowing in the books like when Katniss was describing what Peeta said when Delly told Annie that Peeta decorated her wedding cake and he said You’re welcome in that old voice he used to use with Katniss when he used to love her

The very last shot in Catching Fire, if I recall correctly (from the dvd commentary), only required one take, due too Jennifer Lawrence's perfect transition from realization to anger.

I kind of knew that Katniss would volunteer for Prim because she loves Prim and she can’t just let her die so if she’s the strong older sister she can theoretically survive this

I have a habit of reading the last line of a book first, I’ll open it and after a few chapters I’ll skip to the end and… reading ‘Katniss, there is no district 12’ made me feel so dizzy when I read it because I had no context, I just read that and it made me stop for a while while I collected my thoughts and tried to make myself less dizzy and I thought ‘do I want to continue? I could let these characters live in my head… relatively happily and not have to go through this.’ But I did continue, and I’m so happy I did. (It’s not like me not reading it would have stopped the events but as a 12 year old in my mind it was ‘if I don’t read it, it doesn’t happen’)
Also, congrats on getting married! I hope you two are very happy together for a long time!

      Same thing happened to me!
I always read the end of the book sometime midway through reading, usually by accident 😭
But reading that line out of context was shocking

While I wasn't sure how Snow would be disposed of, I was not completely surprised by Katniss taking out Coin instead. I think that Snow's comment about Coin intending to take his place hit Katniss harder than she realized. Particularly when Snow reminded her that they had promised never to lie to each other. Snow was simply telling her what he had only realized.

Your videos are so great. I joined the hunger games just a few months ago and directly dived deep into it. I saw the films first a lot of times and figured there was not enough information for me to really get it. So I read the books. First in German, now starting the English one. It's so fascinating to dive deeper and deeper into this story ' your videos are my favorite to this theme. Besides all of these interviews and one girl who sang the perfect version of the songs of the newest book. In my opinion.
Thank you for your great content 🙏

Totally not surprising that we only share 1 of the same moments we'd want to experience for the 1st time, when Peeta gets hit by the force field & Finnick revives him.
Although i'd want to experience my FAVORITE parts again vs. the most shocking parts.
The rest of mine, In no specific order:
*Buttercup comes to Katniss house searching for Prim.
*Peeta returns to 12 & her reaction to him(book not movie, movie version is crap). Basically the entire last chapter minus the epilogue which was underwhelmingly dull.
•Katniss taking care of Gale after the whipping.
•All the victors holding hands & raising them up on stage showing unity & defiance.
•Katniss attacking Haymitch for not saving Peeta.
•Katniss shooting an arrow up at the forcefield.
*Katniss kissing Peeta in the tunnels in Mockingjay.
*Peeta gets hit by the force field & Finnick revives him.

Not a moment that I necessarily would want to re-experiencce but shocking nonetheless
The muttations in the first book.
"For a moment it hangs there and in that moment I realise what else unsettled me about the mutts. The green eyes glowering at me are unlike any dog or wolf, any canine that I've ever seen. They are unmistakably human. And that revelation has barely registered when I notice the collar with the number 1 inlaid with jewels and the horrible thing hits me. The blonde hair, the green eyes, the number... it's Glimmer.
Had me like "Excuse me, WHAT?"
It kinda sucks that the film took it out but Katniss noticing that the muttations resembled the dead tributes was so messed up. I don't think this really ended up going anywhere, just another unanswered question about this series.
I really wish I could re-experience watching the first movie again. Went to see it with three of my friends, none of which had read the books, so it was really funny to watch them go through all of the sadness and horror for the first time. A woman behind us offered my friend a tissue when Rued died it was pretty funny lolol. Would love to relive that moment again.

Also hot take. I think that Katniss IS a tradgic hero. Her hamartia is her hostility and self loathing, her downfall isn't exactly a typical fail but think about it. Is katniss happy?

Pk but i watched the movies first amd plss dont tell me i was the only 1 who belived she was actually pregnant till haymitch walked in and was like "the baby bomb was a geuinus"

Interesting...see I felt the exact opposite about the epilogue. The vagueness, the lack of names, even referring to them as "the" girl and "the" boy, I felt it was so uncaring. Almost like she was still trying to keep people at a distance to protect her own heart now. Sort of like if she doesn't care then it can't hurt her if anything happens to them. It pains me to say, but the epilogue left a super sour taste for me in both the movie (which I saw first) and the book.

    • @TheGeekApprentice

I's not that she doesn't care, quite the opposite. It's called the effects of ptsd.
