  • In 597 BC, King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon swings through Judah, after conquering Egypt, to inform Jehoiakim that, since they were vassals of Egypt, they are now vassals of Babylon.
Nebuchadnezzar leaves Jehoiakim in charge, and rushes home to secure his own throne as his father has just died.
After three years, Jehoiakim rebels, trying to make an alliance with Egypt.
In response to this treachery, Nebuchadnezzar returns in 589 to punish and properly conquer Judah -- only to find that Jehoiachin was now in charge.
The king of Babylon took trashed sacked Jerusalem, taking Jehoiachin captive and placing Zedikiah in charge.
After more treachery and collusion with Egypt, Nebuchadnezzar had had enough, and returned in 582 to completely destroy Jerusalem, the temple, and the walls of the city.
God's judgment on Judah is now complete.
