So many Polish eurofans had an absolute meltdown following Luna's selection. The fact that she's the daughter of a preserve magnate ("nepo baby" was the word of the month haha), affectionately called "ketchup princess" certainly didn't help her image. We need a national selection reform asap
her other music is WAY better than the tower too which adds salt to the wound

I can only guess that 'jury' had some issues with Steczkowska, who 'collaborate' with then the ruling party, including TVP. On the other hand maybe Luna had connections both with big business and TVP :D

As always Gabe - perhaps the most insightful ESC commentary ever of any channel on TH-cam. I applaud you, thank you for your content. I'm an old man from the UK, watched my first ever ESC in 1970 and not missed one since. During the down season it would be wonderful to watch someone as insightful as you go back over the decades. The socio-political impact of this contest has kind of shaped my concept of Europionism and European history from my childhood, back in the 70s, to the present day. I went on to travel and learn languages but, as a kid, this was my introduction to the multi-cultural world we live in nowadays
As a Luxembourgish Esperantist I never thought I'd see both of those things in the same iceberg but oh well

Mwuah as a Dutchie I think there's definitely two teams in the Netherlands. One part is still mad about what the EBU did, but the other half is eager to have NL back in the ESC but they are still hurt. Now we know NL is coming back to ESC I wonder who they are going to send.
Germany does have national Broadcasters: ARD and ZDF. ARD is basically a cooperation between the regional broadcasters basically, but ZDF isn‘t.
You have noooooooooo idea how pissed off I was at Kaleen's We Will Rave being robbed of her dance break. The even tried to cover this in the video for the grand final performance by using her semi final footage and copy and pasted on top of the error, but you can still see the camera dying in the live stream.

I subscribed after your Eurovision 2024 disaster video popped up in my recommendations. Always been a casual Eurovision enjoyer but I'm really enjoying your deep dives into the contest.
I watched all of the AI Super Rob song and have to agree it's terrible. It sounds like a bad take on Aqua, who I loved, attempting a comeback by latching on to something that's in the zeitgeist.

Actually the Marco x Mahmood thing goes even deeper. Fans speculated for a year now that they're actually ex-lovers. There's a clip at Sanremo where they completely ignore each other, they don't follow each other on social media despite having the same friends and collab partners in the industry, and I think Mahmood wrote a song for Marco (I think it's Hola? Though I can't confirm this right now).
Though I must say that neither of them made their sexuality public, so any speculation feels just wrong to me.

10:40 i was at the live final(11th) it was still chaos 3 hours before the show started I'd say even 15min before the show started. the fact the EBU was so unclear untill like 5 hours before the show didnt help at all, someone people thought it was a joke or fake, like the EBU did so to make public stunt(which it sadly wasnt), i was next to someone upstairs from the trainstation Malmo Hyllie and we got 3 interview crews in 15min. we were both dressed with dutch colours(since we are both dutch). but the mania and hecticity of it was insane

This really had nothing to do with the video but I really want Canada to join Eurovision. Maybe it’s because I’m Canadian myself but it would make just as much sense as Australia competing. But I think we would actually do really well!
Be prepared for disappointment. I know a lot of people who don't vote for 1) the five countries that pay to automatically qualify; and 2) countries that aren't geographically in Europe.
I would love to see that! We have had several Canadians who have performed in the contest representing other countries (including one confirmed winner with Celine Dion) and have several ties to The UK/Europe.
