THANK you for validating me about pedestal and aiko! i thought the same thing about the vocals and how they'll probably be fine at esc, and i felt like i was talking to the wall haha. i love her song! it may not be very "eurovision" (that kind of indie rock, pop rock sound doesn't have the best history of success at esc) but man, it's fun!
Yeah, I've liked the song from the get-go and had to calm people down after the live show. Yeah, it didn't sound like on the recording, but the biggest problem was the sound mixing at the show and that can be fixed with better mixing. She was also out of breath, but she was excited and moving a lot and that can be fixed by the time of ESC. I'm sure she'll be amazing at the show!
For Slimane, it seems to me that he has to be on tour in January/February/March, which means that promoting him later for Eurovision would be complicated, and he is an artist who is too established to cancel an entire tour. The French delegation, regarding the early release of their song, declared that it made it possible to promote the song to the French-speaking public. And, even if I don't know how many people will watch Eurovision in France this year, I know that he is on repeat on the radio with Loreen, that he performed on New Year's Eve, ... In addition, having the public's reactions so early allows them to not be pressed for time to make modifications, think about their staging, and also rest to enter the competition more calmly
I love this format! It's unique and I can tell so much research and hard work goes into these videos so thank you so much. Can't wait for the next video 🫶
I really like how you analyzed the FIK. Highlighting the main acts and bringing up topics of discussion around the competition. Would love to see same deep-dive to every national final, of course if possible :D
Gabe has the Eurovision channel that deserves the most growth of subscribers and views this year. How does this channel not have 100k subs yet. Subbed m8 😎
Thanks for highlighting your perspective from the Roxy Club itself, that eases my mind XD Pedestal has grown on me in the weeks following ESCZ (although I still prefer Red Flag Parade). Slimane is a top 5 candidate overall, easily. I love the song and his performance. I don't have strong feelings about Albania, but it is quite a nice song
I'm still shocked u have less than 3k subs rn, cuz honestly the quality of ur videos rivals many +100k subs channels. Ur my favorite esc content creator, keep it up ❤️
Weekly videos - I'm here for it! And I quite like this format as opposed to reaction videos; as you say there's plenty of them already out there. You really seem to have filled a gap in the market in terms of Eurovision content on TH-cam. Not many creators do these kind of analysis videos. Watched this over my breakfast and the F-I-K section with "Albanian Wreck-It Ralph" and Co had me spluttering on my cornflakes 😂
I thought you were a super famous youtuber but you are pretty small I love your videos you should have hundreds of thousands of subscribers and all your videos are so good
I'm with you on Pedestal 🙂 - it stands out. It rocks and I don't mean that in a cliche way! Judging Eurovision songs each year across three sections is how I figure out my favourites and Aiko has (for now) the only top tier entry for 2024 on my list so far. Though Sara Siipola and Alyona Alyona/Jerry Heil might join her if they're picked.
Slimane is a huge artist in France so I think part of why France revealed him so early is to build hype on eurovision in France. Then yeah there is a high chance they wanted him as the interval act at Junior.
At 4:08 the GTA conductor is Enrico Melozzi: he's also featured in a fair number of Sanremo's act in Italy. He's kinda the only one people recognize, because of his unusual aesthetic!
I totally agree with you about Aiko, she just need a performance and nice visuals like vesna, but for me its kinda hard for she to qualify, not that HARD IMPOSSIBLE, but yeah she can do it if she and her team know how
Uploading new videos every week usually boosts someone's subscribers, so hopefully it'll pay off for you. I love your videos and this one is no exception! Good luck!
Heh. So this is funny. For Aiko (CZ), I was in the venue too, and I could not hear a thing for the first 20 seconds of her singing. Granted, I was situated rather poorly, under the left wing of the "balcony". But Aiko's song, I did not hear it before the show, and I was not too impressed (I also could not really see the stage show - it did feel really messy to me). But the studio version is quite lovely. So I am crossing my fingers that Aiko brings me back in May... 🙂 (For some unknown reason I exclaimed "Roy!" when I saw you there 😀apologies if you heard it)
re: Czechia I really don’t understand why they don’t do ESCZ the way they did it for 2022 with the prerecorded live-to-tape performances? those all sounded and looked good plus if the results aren’t going to be announced the night of anyway, why does it have to a live show with poor audio quality
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again - I am so excited that Aiko won. Having seen her several times before, I can confirm that she can deliver vocally. But more importantly, she is an artist with a vision and the stage shows I’ve seen from her on a much lower budget than Eurovision were incredible. So excited for what she will come up with.
Luan was robbed! He sang perfectly. I listened to the spotify song and it's IDENTICAL to the studio version when he goes for the high note. Also, I'm a Nodescript British man and I MUCH PREFERED Tom Sean and MYDY than Aiko in terms of the song and performance.
Justyna Steczkowska who is the most probable pick for Poland might set a new record, the longest break between Eurovision performanes, because she would be returning after 29 years. Intresting fact ;p
Why France chose to not let Slimane perform his entry for promotion at Junior Eurovision back in November when it was already released, and instead let Amir the representative of 2016 be the interval act still remains a question for me haha. It must have been indeed the EBU rejected the idea. I went there all excited to see Slimane live and then I heard Amir was coming instead and I was like ???. At least it was fun because at JESC the audience is mainly adults and die-hard Spanish and Polish ESC fans so at least everyone knew the song and was partying, and the audience wasn't full of children cuz then we would have probably heard crickets coming from the audience.
Czech selection sounded awful across the board so it was their production team's fault. But i wouldnt use UK as an example of good sound mixing. Mae's mixing was too quiet. Stand Uniqu3 sounded off. Could've done more to hide James Newman's heavy breathing during his song. Every year Graham's commenrary sound levelling is off in the finals, either too loud or quiet. UK's delegation has a serial sound problem
Great insight and coverage of the first three songs chosen Gabe (theditz83 from ESCUnited here) - subscribed and awaiting the next installments with interest, you cover everything with such humour and completeness that you can't help but admire your passion and knowledge for every tiny detail. Bravo! 👏🏻
So I am in disagreement on Pedestal because I am not part of the target audience (From the US and genderfluid.) It doesn't fall into my taste in music and feels way too repetitive. France is my number 1 right now, with Albania and Slovenia falling in the middle. Slovenia is in contention to become my number 1 in the coming weeks, though, pending a live performance. Once I hear Veronika live I'll have a more definitive ranking, as I value the live performances more than the studio versions most of the time. Edit: 16 songs later, and Veronika has remained second with the rest of the songs falling in my ranking. Wow
Okay, but I'm not a white man from Britain and I like the song a lot. I think he's exaggerating a bit. Especially since Arctic Monkey's audience is pretty female, isn't it? Am I the exception cause I love them 😂 Where does Ireland place in your ranking, do you know yet?
Doomsday Blue is confusing to me. To me, it tries too much at once and the sudden jumps from one type of singing to another isn't the most appealing to me. If it makes sense, I didn't like Serbia's entry from last year, so this type of experimental stuff doesn't usually work with me. I also have a hard time with that type of scream singing, but that applies to all songs. HOWEVER, it is different from what Ireland has submitted in the past few years, and is a pleasant change. There is an appeal to it that I can't identify. I have it ranked 4th for now, but it could change. The deciding factor was would I listen to it compared to the entries in my top 3, and I would listen to Albania's entry over it for now.
Albania : this is as bland and boring as it can be, I heard this song 3 times already and I can't remember anything about it Czechia - this is just terrible, but the song isn't completely bad so we can hope she will get better at performing it France - nothing special for me, but I get why people can like it
sometimes i forget gabe has a small channel and not like a 250k subscriber esc analysis channel… his videos are good.

Kinda funny how France did the opposite than predicted. Fell off hard on the juries (due to a blunder), yet came out quite high in televotes.
