    Alot of people can sing this song powerful...but no one will ever be able to put the real emotion Dolly Parton does in this

      Agreed. Have seen a lot of cover of this song but none of 'em could make me feel the emotion of this song... Whoever says that this version sucks and Whitney's version better, remember this is Dolly's original song not Whitney's and they both sing beautifully in their own way.

    I still remember when I was nine years old and this was filmed outside my hometown of San Marcos, TX near a little town called Martindale; on a ranch owned by my Kindergarten "girlfriend's" family. There was a picture from the movie set on the front page of the San Marcos Daily Record, which showed Dolly standing behind my old girlfriend. The girl's face was almost completely blocked from the sunlight by Dolly's...assets. :-)
    PS - there's no need to compare Dolly's version of the song with Whitney. They were both epic singers making epic movie moments; each irreplaceable in its own way.

    I have always loved this movie! Dolly and Burt were great together, too. At first I was blown away by Whitney's rendition of this song but eventually I came back to Dolly's version because it's sweeter and more touching and since she wrote the song I believe she feels it more deeply.

    This movie came out 17 years before I was born. I wandered down the stairs at 7 to see my grandmother and aunt watching it, they told me to come sit down and watch Dolly Parton (White Limozeen was MY album- Why’d you come in here is constant in my mind). This was the first time I heard this song, sitting there crying when the Chicken Ranch was closed and daydreaming a handsome cowboy to sweep me off my feet instead of Prince Charming. Miss Dolly was, and still is, and INCREDIBLE performer and artist. Love Whitney, beautiful. But nothing will ever beat Dolly.

  • @alittlebitofeverything91

    This version of the song is beautiful and has emotion to it. Also, the ending where Burt sweeps Dolly off her feet has to be one of the most beautiful scenes. Makes you think that everyone should have someone like that to love.

      @@PeridotLioness85 Just because a song writer writes a song doesn't mean it fits their voice better. Its has a lot to do with who we heard sing it first. For example, more people except Stephanie Mills version of "I Have Learned To Respect The Power Of Love" over Angela Winbush version even though Angela wrote it.

    • @andresuston7692
      @andresuston7692 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Its not that big a deal. Different generations hear different versions. The song writer and singer know which came first and that's all that matters. If the writer isn't upset about it, then nobody else should be. That's the business of being a song writer.

    Her singing and her acting was so good. And, she was not even at her best during the filming of this. She was having lady troubles or something and didn't feel good. I was not even 20 when this came out and I think it set the tone for what I expected out of love. I love the look on his face when she sings to him. He was all man that's for sure. I'm from Burt Reynolds country and I can't see him without crying right now. RIP shy sexy guy.

    I love the Great, Amazing, The Standard, The Voice Miss Whitney Houston's version better BUT as a film critic I Absolutely love The TENISON and PASSION between Ed Earl and Mona. He was telling her from his Heart not to leave while she was bidding him fare thee well with her sweet and honest words BUT he was not letting her go as he took her away in grandiose fashion. I miss Love Story's like this one. Thank GOD for showing me this film at a young age where I understood the LOVE aspect of the film.

    This was one of Elvis Presley's favorite songs and wanted to record this song in the worst way, but because of his asshole manager and the way he did things he never did because it would have required dolly to give up all rights to the song ,so I don't blame her for not doing it
