Man I'm learning so much from watching your videos. I can't wait to Bbq quail I think my males know because they all jump backwards when I come around. Blessings and more Blessings to you and your family
Thanks Terry your channel has helped me incubate hatch brood grow out I’m getting my first eggs and will be preparing for pickling and I’m probably going to practice processing two today
I guess I'm late to the party but thank you for the great learning videos. I'm going to get into raising Coturnix Quail next week. Never to late to start. Thanks.
I'm getting paper eggs a couple times a week... My babies are on 28% protein feed and I give them the shells back " about " every 2 weeks.. Plus cantalope rinds every other day. What can I do to stop paper eggs??
Hi, thanks for all the info in your videos! So quail eggs keep differently than chicken eggs? Chicken eggs have the bloom, so we don't wash it off. We don't typically leave them out long, but haven't had any problems.
@@lnz971rubbish eggs are fine out of the fridge as long as they have not been washed. did a test 12 in the fridge 12 on the kitchen counter and 12 in a cool environment. all produced a 70% hatch after a 2 week wait. washed eggs are vulnerable to bacteria
I do not wash eggs or use anything like Listerine or Hydrogen peroxide prior to incubating. I do try to select the cleanest eggs I have, or if they are shipped eggs I will wipe them down prior to setting them. Thanks for the question!
@@CoturnixCorner Thanks alot Terry, I to have never washed either my Quail or Partridge eggs before incubating, just pick the clean ones and relay on the natural bloom many thanks, love your channel
It is a thin membrane coating the outside of eggs when they are laid that blocks bacteria from entering the egg and reduces the rate of evaporation through the pores in the shell so that they don't dry out too fast while the embryo is growing.
I've only had white Coturnix quail for about ten days and my chicken egg-buying contacts are asking if they can buy quail eggs! I have no idea what they are worth. The contact people are mentioning the prices at local Asian markets. Guess I need to go in and explore!
So if you clean your eggs the dry method you don't put in fridge but if you do it in the wet method you refrigerate? This is my 1st quail so they are only 4 weeks but thinking at some point I would like to sell them Thank you
I put all my eggs in the refrigerator regardless of the cleaning method. I'm in S. Florida and the temps are usually in the mid 90's so I don't like to leave eggs out on the counter.
clean eggs do not need washing or cleaning. if you do in the uk they are not sellable. our eggs chickens have a use by date 28 days after laying. a bit of poo on an egg just needs wiping off. they can be eaten but not for sale
I want to sell infertile eggs, I want to refrigerate them when collected till I have enough for sale (usually 5 days for 10 dozen for a restaurant) I brush them clean. Can I sell them that way or do I have to wash them. The restaurant will be hard boiling them and pickling them as hot poppers they call them. Can I let them wash them before boiling??

Hi Terry do you wash your fertile eggs prior to incubation, and if so what do you use. Many thanks in advance.

What temp should ur sanitize water be?
Terry, do you still float test your eggs when dry cleaning?
Usually no, I collect fresh everyday and can pretty much tell by the weight if the egg is good.
Great info once again Terry, thank you!
Thanks!
What if I don’t want to hatch any? Can I just collect the eggs, clean then cook?
This was really helpful!

Have you made a video about how or who you sell your eggs to? Do you just hand deliver? Do you sell to restaurants?
Thanks

How many % of the eggs produced are clean and need no cleaning?
Most just need sanitizing, I would say 80% are clean.

Hi terry. Please how do identify eggs that are good for incubating and for food consumption?
I just choose the cleanest eggs for both, if you are concerned you can float test them. Thanks for the question.
Thanks. Please after laying of the eggs how long do I have to wait before I put them in incubator?
