She was 9 months pregnant, ready to deliver, which always affects the breathing. Then, consider the sentiment of the lyrics. Her vulnerability is heartbreaking. ♥️♥️♥️♥️

This performance in itself is so heartbreaking and emotional, but knowing her ex really did disappoint her in the end as well just makes that so much harder.

My exact thoughts in that exact moment. So many people can relate to her story about her father on some level and I know the saying is played out but this will “make a grown man cry”. It certainly made me cry and Keith Urban is a mess. Being able to story tell on that level is a rare gift she has

Honestly the imperfections in this are what makes it so perfect. Kelly always talks about how her favorite artist don't necessarily have the biggest or best voices, but the emotion they put into their songs....i wish she would understand how good she is at that very thing. She down plays herself all the time she's got the voice always yes but she knows how to sing every single lyric so that you feel everything shes singing. Thats why i love seeing her live so much i know ive seen her 25 times because shes freaking incredible and her concerts will make you feel all the feels they are a full blown experience!
Ps i love that you said "No don't be sorry" i was saying the same thing when i first saw it. I love that the crowd started chanting Kelly!!! She needed to know shes loved by so many of us! ❤😭😭😭

Great reaction. I actually preferred the imperfections she displayed throughout this performance it actually made me listen more to her words more than I usually do. As beautiful as the song is it's so many others story and she told it beautifully. ❤️😢

It gets me every single time I watch it. Your description of how her vocals are affected by the tightening of her throat made so much sense to me. I’m incredibly impressed by Kelly’s ability to regroup and pick back up to keep the performance going, it’s so endearing and such the sign of the true professional that she is. It’s one of my favorite performances of hers because it is SO honest and heartfelt and comes from the very core of her being. The way this one went for her gives a little different side of Kelly that I totally appreciate too. A stunning performance that ALL of us felt. Soo emotional. When I choked up and it affected my voice for a sec in the video I should have just said I was demonstrating what happens 😅. Kelly did a beautiful job and gave the best performance of this without it being her best vocals ❤️ Suuuch a pro, yes! She is an honest vocalist, and an honest songwriter, this just made me love her even more ❤️ and I truly appreciate the recommendation (and call you sick in the most loving way 🥰).

Well not just that, she was abandoned by her father so the emotion is real too.
Hege - I like you very much mainly because I feel your sincerity. Kelly Clarkson is a special vocalist - maybe the most special vocalist of her generation. This performance was extremely emotional for her and the imperfections in the vocal enhanced it's emotional impact - so the lesson is raw and real is never perfect, in fact, it's "realness" makes it so memorable. I have never seen a more emotional vocal performance than this one. If you find one please feature it so I have something to compare it to.
Kelly's past and future are filled with remarkable performances because that's what she does - who else does that as consistently and well? When people talk about who's the best singer & vocalist in music today most of the opinions come from casual music consumers who naturally gravitate to what's catchy and "hot" at the moment. They don't deep dive into the technical vocal qualities of the artist. Most singers become famous for the "song" - not the vocal performance. Kelly is special because of her God given vocal ability - most importantly her ability to emote. I'll leave it to you to decide who does it best - but what I've learned about Kelly Clarkson is I'd rather hear her sing most other singers songs. Who else can you say that about?
This one is hard, especially given what the future has told us now. I cry every time I see this. I never expected her to be perfect here, it was an emotional, very personal song she wrote about something painful, she was very pregnant, she did her best and still sounds better than most (in my opinion though I’m biased I admit lol). As you said very eloquently, an emotional song, imperfection is not a bad thing. I think Kelly gave this advice to one of her Voice contestants some time back, she’d rather there are imperfections loaded with emotion than a completely perfect performance that doesn’t convey that emotion. If the performance is emotion filled, it’s not so important to be perfect, you can still blow people away. I think that is exactly what you conveyed here. Fun fact - I don’t think I’ve ever seen her perform this song without breaking at least a little. She was singing this song when she accidentally came out to the world at a concert she was pregnant. Here she was like 7-8 months lol.

This performance & song have become so much more sad & tragic because her husband turned out to be a total fraud & they got divorced. Kelly just released two new songs ("Mine" and "Me") that you should react to. One of them directly references this song, as she says she doesn't need someone else to pick up the pieces anymore. 🥺😭
I did a live reaction to both the songs, the replay is still up but let me warn you that the audio went from bad to just decent during that 😅 We live and learn. ☺️ but I’ll react to her live debut tomorrow (regular reaction video) and I hope she does «Me» live too very soon.

3:18 she had a rough patch between 2015 and 2017. her voice in 2016 wasn’t SO GOOD like it is now and like it used to be in 2013. glad she recovered her voice
Ah, I’ve heard people mention a period where she struggled. I haven’t explored that phase, but I’m soo stoked she’s where she’s at now vocally ❤️🙌

@@doctorits I mean she literally hit a c6 cleanly the other week and a couple months ago, and her acapella "me" clip on Twitter tops at a c6 as well. So she still does them. She actually does them better now than in 2013. Her high belting is insanely impressive.

I can't imagine singing this song when you're pregnant and due any day. Just having the breath to sing it is hard enough without being pregnant too. She was pregnant with her son. She wrote it when she was pregnant with her daughter.
It wasnt effecting her breath, she was trying not to cry. She is also 9 months pregnant which is effecting her breathing

Besides the emotions, she was like 9 months pregnant. It's extremely hard to breathe at that stage. I could barely finish a sentence without running out of air, let alone sing. The little buggers crowd your lungs at that stage. I have 2 kids and my 1st stayed up high and made me miserable. I was miserable with both 😂 but she literally took all my breath.

I've seen this performance at least 50 times and it STILL messes me up in tears. Sure wish though you would have let it run thru the end as Kelly explains why she wrote this cathartic song. Everything about this performance was perfect, especially the imperfections... it gave it authenticity, rawness, and the whole reason it reaches so many people so deeply. I don't think there's a soul in the world that heard or cared if Kelly's vocals weren't by the book, but I realize that is your job to do. Perhaps though this kind of performance of a song like this should not be critiqued at all. React from the heart, not the ear, which you basically did. Pretty hard not to on this one. 👏👏👏

This is a vocal analysis, not a critique. In any case I’d say I defended her vocals in this by explaining what’s happening. And I think I managed to include both emotion and information tbh ☺️. I said the same thing you’re saying - the emotion and «imperfections» made this performance.
I watched the ending after filming, but I don’t include introductions or endings as people are generally more interested in just the performance parts so they skip the talking parts and click off once their fav stops singing ☺️.

There is a vocal coach who did a reaction to this a few years back and strictly critiqued her vocal flaws and barely noticed the emotional nuances and they got savagely destroyed in the comments by the thousands like I've never seen before. You truly understood that it was the flaws that made it special. The ability to convey such strong emotions and make an audience feel so deeply is a rare gift that Kelly shares like no one else.

I was just sort of lamenting that perhaps 'no one' should do any type of analysis or critique on the fundamentals of singing on such rare, organic, and atypical performances like this one... Kelly or anyone.
As for the ending, I agree with you as a rule. Perhaps it's because I knew what was coming and thought in this particular case, folks might want to hear what she had to say. But again, I understand what you're saying.

One of my favorite live performances. So heartbreaking and emotional. I do agree that while it wasn’t her best vocals it was still a beautiful / honest performance because of it. Loved this song but now knowing that her ex-husband did disappoint (really bad) makes me like it a little less. But it’s still a great song.
