    As I get closer to finishing off my first grow in my Gorilla 5x5 I will be working my way through 60 auto seeds of 6 different varieties. That will take a while to plow through but be a lot of fun and a good learning experience as well.

    Best way I describe the difference in the two, for those that don’t grow or maybe just smoke and have no knowledge is just tell them a photo grows like a tomato plant all summer long, and auto just do what they do in 10 wks. Love the work you guys do

    High guys! So I'm am literally just starting off. Got everything except the light and will be here tomorrow. When I first started looking into this I started getting information overload. The more I look in to things the more intimidated I get. Looked at a bunch of TH-cam channels for information and settled in to adhering to what you guys put out. As I see your enthusiasm for growing, it truly encourages me to start this project, keep an open mind, and simply do the best I can. I know it's a skill and it takes time to develop. I just want you guys to know that you are a true encouragement to this guy right here in the State of VA! Will keep you updated as my grow begins and goes thru it's life cycle. Thanks again!!!

    Great video y'all, good vibes from you two!!
    Im getting close to 60 yrs old and don't partake as much these days but still enjoy here and there. Consequently my tolerance is low and I'm no longer concerned with super duper potency, super is just fine.
    We probably learn a little something every time we all grow, dry and cure. The dry and cure are really an important step in the process!
    Autos are definitely fun, to me, to grow!
    I agree with y'all about autos easily taking care of our personal needs and by the time I'm 25 percent into a jar it has cured to the point it is super smoooooth.
    Thanks again for the great info and insight!!

    We started with autos and grew 15 of them to harvest. Experienced all the usual first time grower mistakes and issues with autos and now the photos I grow are so much easier! You mentioned it as I was typing (at time code 8:30) that mastering autos made us better photo growers. Like other commenters said, grow whatever you want.. just grow! :)

    The real difference is one you can control the size and one you can't with auto it's what ever you get they really sensitive photos grow bigger and more potency and I can put a photos in flower in 4 weeks from seed finish with autos so photos definitely better for me . The only good thing is they flower on their own best for beginners some autoflower are great not a big fan tho your not getting 6 to 8 ounces on a auto not worth growing for 2 or 3 ounces you guys do really good with autos im impressed 😤💯

    You make some good points here. Photos don't have the rudarolis genetics which other than autoflowering is all they bring to the party. If you have 2 tents one flower and one veg, with the veg on 50% power with 18 on and 6 off. Then a flower tent on 90% 12 on and 12 off you draw less power and create less heat in you grow space. I have really enjoyed watching your channel evolve along with you alls journey. I am especially jealous of your drip watering system. I still hand water. I trust my medicine to general hydroponics after all that little company scotts has some real science behind them. Cheers hope you all are enjoying a long weekend too

    Great video! Fellow Michigan growmie. I'm not a pro grower but I've experienced both and am switching back to photos. Imo, autoflowers can be complicated. And in Michigan as u know 18/6 or24 on can get you killed by the energy company. I just haven't been as successful with autos as photos. They are infinitely more finicky.

    • @Highigan
      @Highigan  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They are tricky! But we are having fun and getting better and better results, we are finding different strains need different things at different times, learning to read the plans and act in time to keep the autos happy is what we are tyring to learn! Then that should translate to awesome photos when we go back to em! Thanks for watching MichiFAM from the 616!

    I have the tendency to veg plants way to long, but I also hold mothers/genetics of plants indefinitely. The people I know that grow lots of autos and switch to some photos just don't veg them as long. So when they get clones they veg for a short time 3-4 weeks and then flip, technically you can flip them from clone but that's if you have space restrictions. Making them almost identically timed to their autos. Yes on the flip side growing a photo plant straight from seed you add that additional time, but that's a one time additional need to pheno hunt out those keeper clones, after that dispose of the non keepers and just run the keeper clones. I'm making some auto lines now. When I get them done I will send you some. Also photos if you want some too.

    • @Highigan
      @Highigan  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thats awesome! Cloning is nice and does cut down on the time it can take to run a photo cuz you skip all the seedling stage. Definitely a huge + for photos! What autos are you making? That seems like such a cool process! We are excited to learn more!

      @@Highigan There is an Australian Bastard Cannabis Auto that I'm growing from hybri-tech. I'm going to cross that to some things like forum cut cookies, and sunset sherb and OGKB 2.1. Those seeds will all be photos, but feminized F1, I'm shooting for the ones with the ABC small tiny leaves. Then I will take those and pollinate back some of the ABC(Australian Bastard Cannabis ) a couple of times until the auto trait becomes dominate. Its a recessive trait, so if you cross (auto x photo) those F1 seeds are always photos. You grow those out and use 2 of them to keep making the seed lines, and the F2 will show some autos like 25%, and F3 will show more 50+%-ish. I have to go back and look but I think they are mostly stable by that F4 stage. Its like each time its bred, the trait is passed but recessive until enough the lineage has it in its recessive traits, to make it no-longer recessive. Then they become all day-neutral)- autoflower.

      @Highigan  3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Indoors, my autos go about 12 weeks, photos about 20 total, so my autos grow 60% as long. My autos return about 60% vs photos, so yields are close to equal over time. Your mileage may vary.

  • @sethroberts634
    @sethroberts634 ปีที่แล้ว

    I started with autos and then went to photos. I found growing with something like Ocean Forest or something you don't have to amend, saves time and makes good sense because of the results. I liked the rapid growth of autos so I went with 45 day flower photos and that's damn near an auto if not even faster. My brother just gave me 2 kinds of auto seeds so I'm super excited to do a side by side comparison. Thanks for the channel

  • @matthewwhite876
    @matthewwhite876 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think it can be far simpler to run 4/20 then switch spectrum a week or 2 after flower's appear but also with autos they can be less forgiving if something goes wrong because you'll mess up that cycle with any stress but you have the advantage of time with photos to make corrections. And you can reveg and clone ofcourse. I like to grow both

    What about growing autos out doors. Will they .start flowering earlier in the winter months in so Arizona. Our white widows were actually tiny compared to yours. The buds are awesome for sure, but the plants started flowering at about 3.5 weeks and at 8.5 weeks they are very close to harvest. This is our first auto grow and we planted them in late august . They are killer buds but the plants are only about 12-14” inches tall .

  • @DrDepperLP
    @DrDepperLP 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    In my opinion photos are better to start with because they allow you to mess up while being flexible enough to withstand that mistake and withstand too much stress. My first grow was an auto that yielded me 0.3oz because I made major mistakes that stunted the plant. My second grow was a photo that yielded about 3oz and allowed me to learn from the mistakes a made before, have the confidence to try different training techniques, and improve my methods without stunting another plants growth that I then applied to my autos later on.

      Just seconding this comment. It's the truth.
      Autos aren't really good for learning anything about the things that can be done to this plant. They're great, but they're also horrible for building confidence.

Though mine have surprisingly done so pretty well besides some errors on my part slowing them down.

    My first grow I’ve grown 1 ounce of each strain. Second grow I got 2 ounces each grow. And unfortunately on my latest grow. One plant stunted. But the other plant got 4 ounces. Literally. The same as the last grow off of just one plant. You will get better with time. And learning something new.

    So, I can get a quarter pound plus out all my auto's on average. The 84 day is good average wise, but I have some go quicker and some more. Got Gorilla Glue girls by FastBuds on week 13 and no Amber trichomes yet, lol. Never know with these auto's, but love growing them.

      Yeah we have noticed swings, and some genetics like mephisto always tend to be on the faster side 70-80 day finish. But most seem at or close to 84 days. Some do just take longer, if its the strain or genetics or some issue over the grow. Autos! lol We love em too tho! 💚

      @@Highigan that sucks to hear about Seedsman. I'd be pissed too. I'm sure you're happy with your current seed bank because your trees look fire. I'll give them a try in the future.
      Seedsman ships to a hub in Maine from the UK and if it happened to pass through the Chicago USPS terminal at any point on the way to you, which is highly likely, then that might explain it because they are notorious for confiscating shit and not sending you a notice until months later or not at all, which has happened to me countless times in the past before cannabis was widely accepted. Something to note - any forwarded delivery with USPS are not permissible and will more than likely be intercepted.
      I'm pretty sure they would try to make it right and possibly double your order and give you freebies, judging from customer reviews in the past.. I would imagine with you guys being content creators they would want to redeem themselves to save face. I ordered from Seedsman and received my seeds in about 17 days time to Virginia from Europe with no buyers insurance. I received my tracking info 14 days after purchase and they arrived 3 days later on a Saturday. 100% germination rate.
      Sorry you had a bad experience. I'm not affiliated with Seedsman, just a new grower who has watched just about every one of your videos trying to soak in information so I can hit the ground running.

    Auto is like giving a job to someone and they HAVE to produce a product in so many days… a photo is a job you give someone with way more forgiveness.. if the person has a problem on the job they have time to fix and correct… so you tell me what better for a beginner a job on a time frame or a job with flexibility 🤷‍♂️… also photos are better bargain for the price.. you can clone 1 seed over and over to produce pounds from 1 seed

  • @Chris-Hill

    for a beginner autos are definitely not ideal. For a beginner one of the most common issues are watering practices. most recommendations suggest not transplanting autos which for beginners again watering practices come into play watering a small plant in a large pot. since autos flower around day 30 improper watering can stunt plant. since autos flower so soon a stunted plant will ruin the grow. if you do grow autos first start in beginner pots allowing you to water pot completely, lifting pot before and after each watering to start judging pot weight dry vs watered. that'll help future watering. transplant into finishing pot week 3 or day 21 from sprout. plants have been growing at night for millions of years. unless you have a subpar light plants will droop around 16 or 18 hours signifying their light fullness. if they cant use the light why waste 6 hours of electricity. imo you use the same equipment, nutrients, time, and money to grow both photos and autos. difference is half a plant referring to autos. same effort, time, and money to grow both but you'll grow half the weed using autos. granted you can up your plant count using autos to cover the lost bud but now you're using more effort, time, and money to grow the same amount of weed just to grow autos. a beginner should start with photoperiods. unless a grower can take a healthy plant into and through flower everything else is irrelevant. growing photos allows you time to become educated, while your plant vegges. get a quality soil you'll literally just have to water and get run off readings studying your plant, medium of choice and be given the opportunity to dial in your setup. autos better have everything perfect for 100 days. from seed to harvest. with all that said I believe autos have a place within a grow if used properly. I personally run autos 8 to 12 plants at a time perpetually outdoors while I use my tents and closets for photoperiods.

    On a photo u can repair nearly every mistake but on an auto not. If a beginner makes mistakes on an auto, it's done, no chance to repair, it will bloom, sure but with horrible small yields.
    On a photo you can fix anything and still get a huge harvest.
    For beginners? No autos...
    I also use the first cut of an auto, after 2/3 weeks, to grow a single bud beside the actual ladies
    For experienced or for autdoor, autos make sense... the yield will always be less than on photos🤷🏻‍♂️
