Lego City Undercover is not only my favorite Lego game, it's one of my favorite games in general. I loved it so much as a kid(I played the Wii-U version) that I did the 100% twice and a third story playthrough.
LEGO CITY UNDERCOVER IS MY FAVORITE VIDEO-GAME EVER AND IT NEEDS TO BE EXPANDED ON! A SEQUEL, A REMASTER OF THE PREQUEL, A TV SHOW, I DONT CARE! I NEED MORE FROM THIS UNIVERSE!
Right now I am in the middle of playing Lego the Hobbit and I had now idea that You could switch items with the triggers, so thank you very much this makes things much easier.
This age of Lego games is what I grew up with and made me a huge Lego game fan, I even had a 96% completion for Lego Marvel Superheroes on the PS3 back then which was my favorite out of the games in this age. I haven't had that much fun since but there are some other good Lego games after this age but I rather wait until you talk about it yourself
Just to comment on LEGO Marvel, you pointed out being confused that Coulson seems angry about Wolverine's regeneration. The game came out shortly after the premiere of Agents of SHIELD, that deals a lot with the fact that Coulson was stabbed and *died* in The Avengers. It's a reference to that.
Agent coulson in Lego Marvel Super Heroes 1 and Lego Marvel Avengers is voiced by the actor who plays him in the MCU (Clark Gregg) which is why he sounds the same :)
Lego City Undercover was almost the first with an open world and voice acting. At least the first in development. And you can really see that! I still wish that someday a sequel to it will come out as both the 3ds Prequel, that truely pushed the 3ds to its limits, and LCU itself just give an itch unmatched by any other lego game before or after it
I may have grown up with the older TT games, but I recently got the chance to play these and I absolutely get why they're so beloved. So many iconic features had their start here, plus a ton of different franchises got their adaption. Such a good time for LEGO games. Though I am excited to hear your thoughts on TT Games' experimentation in the following years. Great video, as per usual!
I love this videos, please continue as soon as possible. I know basicly everyone loves Lego Batman 2, but something that bothers me a lot it's the gold bricks. I though it was terribly boring colecting all of them because of two reasons. It was really repetitive and everytime I collected gold brick, the loading screen stoped my gameplay for almost 10 seconds, so I didn't have much fun playing it as people usually do, which is sad...
An engrossing watch. I find your candid description of each game's level design and the strengths and pros of this period so helpful! You honestly have the most in-depth musing on each title that I've found anywhere! I have enjoyed the style of puzzle most where you "look and find the thing you need in the room to proceed" as seen in SW1-2 and Indiana Jones especially. That's why, as a continuation of this, I enjoyed Pirates so much. I think you're right that this is a period where the level design is uneven across these games and that -- they have other strengths, the open world/cast of characters, that help buoy the quality, but.. hm.. The quality consistency certainly starts to waver here even as there are some quite high highs! And, of course, the addition of voice acting is somewhat controversial. Excited to try the rest of these titles out!
Something I like about Lego Batman 2’s story is that it felt a lot like those Superman/Batman movies we got around the time like public enemies and apokolips.
I love how lego city on the 3ds isn't just a port of the game from wii u to handheld, but rather an entirely new game ad it's the prequel to undercover
Very excited to watch this whole video. It's been very anticipated by me. Batman 2, Lord of the Rings, Marvel, Hobbit and City Undercover are some of my personal fave LEGO games.
He might, he dug up LEGO Bionicle Heroes, and he said he'd review all Tt games, but given how expensive it is now, it wouldn't surprise me if he didn't, unless he already owns them all
8:31 imo dialogue is way better for the game. One example is that I just 100% Lego pirate of the Caribbean and it is definitely one of my favorite Lego games, but for someone who hasn’t watched those movies in ages, the story made absolutely NO sense. I think the dialogue is definitely needed for games based on movies, since if you never watched them, you are at a big disadvantage
i don't remember it was in lord of the rings or hobbit , but when you replay the level you can chose what part you want to play, it helps a little with the collectables in the scroller sections. oh , the awful platforming challenge near mordor, i remember that one and in freeplay the levels get a extra zone or challenge to complete
It's great to see some Lego Hobbit appreciation. I still think Lord of The Rings is a better game than you're giving it credit for, but one of the best parts of the Hobbit movies were the individual personalities of the dwarves, and that was translated into Lego perfectly. I remember playing The Hobbit back in 2016 listening to Markiplier videos, good times.
Superman still has his Freeze Breath in LEGO Batman 3, it's just performed by holding the X or Square button there, too bad he lost his Super Blow, would have still worked under the original input too.
@chavothemouse6687 I know, so weird and even the skywalker saga doesn't even allow you to have the invincibility extra, which baffles me, but I can see why
I must be getting old, when I went to a friend's house it was always LEGO Batman, Star Wars, or Indiana Jones. That was my golden age of LEGO games. Then again, on a replay trying to 100% LEGO Star Wars: TCS fucking sucks, so I can see why this later era is more appreciated.
I replayed LEGO LOTR recently and can agree about the janky bows, platforming and Gollum climbing. The jumping puzzle at 49:28 gave me grief as did the one up Mount Doom. The Hobbit switching thing was also annoying but i worked around it by just keeping my party as Sam and Legolas.
It's interesting to watch this series, seeing how someone could love lego games like you but have so many different opinions about specific games. Personally I think Lego Star Wars 3 is the worst Lego game that i played and Lego Lord of the Rings is one of the best Lego games ever.
Also this is my third dumb comment but I’d like to share this insane glitch I encountered in lego Batman 3. So there are these barebones hubworlds which are a number of colored planets right. I finished up the challenges for one world and fast traveled to the next and the game combined them into one world. Like both worlds were occupying the same space, but only this world I visited had its objectives. The land and trees of the previous world was overlapping with the air and clipping into caves. It was infuriating when I didn’t know what was happening and I was trying to complete a race. Some challenges were still possible, but others were impossible due to being covered by immovable mountains. Daffy Duck immediately ran into a mountain and continued running in place forever. I believe he was still making annoying comments. Truly a bizarre glitch. And it continued the glitch when I fast traveled to a different planet. Had to turn the game off to fix it.
"Imagine a LEGO Ninjago game built around this context." Even better, imagine a LEGO Ninjago game period. The closest we got was with the LEGO Ninjago Movie video game, and that was a separate continuity that focused more in the lines of The LEGO Movie. I want to play a LEGO Ninjago game with MY ninja, y'know?
@@GediRitter Yeah. I assume the reason people forget it exists is that for whatever reason, it was a 3ds/Vita exclusive. Not ENTIRELY sure about the thought process behind that choice. Did they want to hide that only Lloyd has his actual (at the time) VA or was it just that they somehow thought their biggest original IP wouldn't sell good enough on console?
Lego Lord of the Rings was the last LEGO game I preordered. After that I would pick up the occasional game afterwards (The only post LOTR games I played were Marvel Super Heroes, Avengers, Hobbit and Jurassic Park) Because of that I told a special nostalgia for that game. It was like the end of a long road I was on since Lego Indiana Jones
I remember going nuts over trying to figure out why I didn't have characters youtubers in the videos had, like I straight up did not find out that they're console exclusive, so I thought there was like, a secret method of unlocking each one lmao
I remember getting lego batman 2 day one as a kid, here in the UK the physical copies came with a Lex Luther figure with a deconstrucor as well as his suit which went great with my sets at the time
The Lego movie game has that "stop motion" look because the animations linger a little bit longer on key frames. Also the minifigs' joints are rigid, just like the movie, so they don't contort or bend like all the other games.
You spend half of Lego Batman 2 fighting the Joker robot. First you fly after it in the skies, then you evade it in the subway. You fend off against it at the city hall, then it chases you across Gotham. In its hubris, it climbs Wayne Tower, and the justice leage knocks it off. It lies prone, giving its last harrowing laughs as you destroy it. You fight the two villains responsible for all the destruction. Their last stand. Lex pulls out his mech (the best Lex Luthor mech set don't @ me) and you blast it with a satellite laser! The mech defeated, Batman punches the glass as Lex is shaking in the cockpit. I love the final battle of Lego Batman 2.
Fun Fact:Lex luthor villain nemesis of superman in lego batman 2,3, and Lego DC SuperVillains was Voiced by Clancy Brown who voice played lex luthor in the DC justice league animated series and he also did voiced mr krabs from spongebob
Love the video but when you mention lord of the rings levels and how you can’t go backwards because of the save system, that’s something that started in Lego Batman 2 which you didn’t mention

Lego the Hobbit is the lego game that I hated the most, I got it on 3DS and it's a complete difference. To a point where there is no respawn mechanic, a death means you restart the level or the part of the level (I don't remember, just remember being traumatized by this in the "Azog The Defiler" level that I spend more than 10 hours total trying to beat (3 months irl))
