Hi. Waiting for my Q3. I don’t know how this advantage will help but I’m happy if my new cam has this flexibility. But under what photos we are taking that we need long exposure time and high iso? Thank you.
Thank you very much for making these videos. They are very informative and comprehensive. I really enjoyed all your videos. I'll appreciate it if you can compare the dynamic range of Q3 and Q2. I'm currently a Q2 user. I heard that the Q3 has a much better dynamic range because it uses the same sensor as M11.
@@Rabbitochen2019 Yes, I am talking from experience. After 120s you can select T mode. press the shutter once and the exposure starts. To stop it, press again. If the camera reaches 30min mark, it will end the exposure.
That was my only gripe with the Q cameras now I can shoot Astro with my Q camera I don’t need to lug an additional camera with me camping this feat alone worth the upgrade to me! Thanks!
Hello, Math. I watched both of your videos and I couldn’t find an explanation for: how is it to use manual focus with an EVF in comparison to an M? I’m asking this because I like both the Q3 and the M11 but with the Q I could have it both ways, depending on the focusing situation. Thank you.
Leica-M cameras use an optical view finder (rangefinder camera) but can as an option also use and electronic view finder (EVF), namely the newest Visoflex from Leica. The Q-cameras have only EVF and the EVF of the Q3 has significant improvements in terms of resolution, OLED panel, etc. Manual focusing with the EVF of the Q3 is easy based on magnification and focus peaking, works very well.
Good video , I love the way you explain it and the knowledge that you share with your viewer’s. Do you now how long before Leica releases the reporter’s version.
Do you think that the Q2Monochrom is better than the Q3 in case of image Quality/look expect the better ISO sensitivity? I see a kind of medium format look (tonality, smoothness...)in the Q2Mono files but not sure if the Q3 has caught up. Thanks & Cheers
Hi mathphotographer, i was in a Leica Store yesterday in Paris and tried to use the "T mode" on the Q3 and It seems i was able to go further than 120 sec of exposure time --> I choose the T mode, Took a picture, waited for around 2min 30sec (written on the screen), clicked on the shutter to stop, then the Q3 compiled the photo (noise reduction etc ...) and displayed the photo at the end of the process. Fake magic ? did i miss something ?
Thanks for posting this video. Great explanation of these constraint and their elimination in the Q3. It is on order. So one more question. How is the COMA distortion on this lens at various apertures? It just seems like a wonderful lens for Astro given the exposure is unconstrained.
Hi Thomas, no not in retrospective. The Q3 has an upgraded design with much more performance and heat dissipation. So I would not expect this to come to previous Leica cameras.
Shooting above ISO 3200 is ridiculous and not necessary. If its that dark, shoot at ISO 800 and under expose 4 stops and add exposure in post because basically that is what the Q3 does too, ISO is applied gain after the too dark photo is taken. (ISO invariant sensor) Why would you choose for exposure compensation in post ?: because then you have much more control over the output (especially when you want to avoid chroma noise) And again the results will be much better with Capture One than with Lightroom because the algorithm of the lightness slider is much better than the one from the exposure slider.
After that you go into T mode. I don't own a Leica but would bet you a beer or coffee it is a timer mode & you could go for a longer exposure if wanted/needed.
@@thomastuorto9929 sorry no you can’t, The T indicates 120 seconds max at 100 iso, each time you up the iso you loose 1 stop in speed. On the highest iso permitted you only get about 4 seconds max whilst on the Q3 you can go right up to the highest iso (100,000) and your chosen speed won’t change, as Math has demonstrated in his video.
Question: Can you do a video on NOISE at high ISO between Q2 and Q3? With the 60MP on the Q3, I would assumed there will be more noise. Thank you. Great video as always Math!
Why I am not buying the Q 2 or 3 ? because it fixed lens that was chose for me, if leica would sell the q3 with option of lens chosen by me then it would make sense .
Math you have the most helpful Leica videos .. seriously the details you go into are one of the reasons I’m hooked on getting Leica gear ..
Leica kit should be illegal. 😊
Thanks for your kind feedback,
I love these very specific and informative videos you put out. Thank you for doing this.
My pleasure, glad you liked it.
Math, what a great quick service you give. Thanks for answering the question of low light constraints on the Q3. Regards.
Pleasure :)

Yes - a video on dynamic range, noise and high ISO is in the making. Many thanks for your positive feedback.
@@mathphotographer That’s fantastic. Thanks! Can’t wait to see it!
With T mode you can get up to 30 min exposure at any ISO value.
I don’t think so. But if you did it, please share the details how you did it.

Welcome :) Indeed great that they removed these constaints.
slightly off topic ... but what brand is the all black base plate you have on the q3?
Thank you.
What is the highest acceptable ISO that we should not go beyond?
ISO 6400 is still fine, beyond it gets a bit grainy.

The M cameras use OVF which focuses with a rangefinder patch. It is very different compared to EVF. Feels like analog

This will take a while. I guess next is the Q3 Mono.
What is the benefit of the exposure constraints?
Do you use any bag with Q3? Which one do you recommend?
I have it in my usual Temba backpack.
Will they update it on the q2
and we have to be grateful that Leica lifted this weird constraint :) but yes we are
Indeed we are, Armin :)

The Q3 has caught up. And there will be a Q3 Monochrom for sure :)

Thank you for posting. Isn't the exposure constraint in the Q and Q2 something which could easily be changed/fixed with a firmware update?
I think they had heat issues on the former Q-cameras which they fixed for the Q3, otherwise the Q3 could not record 8k video internally.

The lens works very well for Astro, don't worry.
Dear Math, is it possible to fully disable the touch screen interface on this model, sadly it's not possible on the Leica Q2, thank you !!
I don't think you can completely disable the touch screen ... will look into it again and come back.
@@mathphotographer Yank you for all !
Coming to other Leica cameras in a firmware update?

Great decision :) You will not regret shooting with the Q3!
Hi, this is not relevant to this video, but is there any chance you could review the Xiaomi 13 Ultra? I just want to hear your opinion.

Hi, please make a video about The Hasselblad X2D 100C firmware update 2.0.0 when it's available. Thank you in advance. 👍
