My favorite bait to keep tied on this time of year is a nose hooked fluke. I throw it on a spinner rod. Anytime I’m close enough to them feeding at the surface, I can fire that fluke into it and just let it slowly sink. A few twitches if needed, but it works really well

Unless I'm missing it, I was wondering if you'd do a talk on when you use a spinning reel vs. baitcaster. I recently got intobass fishing and I've trusted y'all with helping me fine tune and perfect different tactics in the sport. I've definitely improved tenfold since finding your channel so thank y'all so much, y'all are great.

That could be a good video. I'm going to tell you something you probably already know, but in case you don't, it's a line thing, spinning reals are great for lighter line. 4-10 lb test. Baicasters are better for heavy line 10-30+lb test. It's easier to throw lighter lures on a spinning rod as well. I wouldn't mind seeing these guys make a video on the subject...jimi

@@1jimif yeah I ultra light and light fish alot, mostly for soft mouth fish. I've recently gotten into bass fishing and have 25lb line equivalent to 4lb mono, and I've noticed I don't always get the same action out of mini chatters and certain jigs, not to mention swimbait even smaller ones. I'd love to hear they're opinion on it, and I appreciate yours, so I'm open to tips

  • @shadygraves

One thing you'll find with schooling bass, especially spots, is the bigger bass will hang back, below the schools of bait, and let the smaller, younger bass do all the work. They like to swim in and eat the wounded and disoriented baitfish that the buck bass crippled. Also, if you throw a lipless bait and have followers, when you hook one and have followers, work it in a figure '8' at the boat! The followers want what the hooked bass just ate. If it's hanging outside it's mouth (as it almost always is), they'll knock the snot out of it, trying to best the competition. I've caught 2 at a time FIVE TIMES in a day doing this. I learned it from Rick Clunn. IT WORKS! Give it a try!

Fishing without electronics: I just switched over from kayak fishing (basic, no electronics) to an 8’ pond prowler. Still, basic, no electronics. As fun as it is to fish blind (lol) finding flats, grass, bait fish under the surface is nearly impossible. What do you suggest when fishing open water electronics-free? Until I can get a bass boat, I just don’t have the space and or want to add that weight. The 55 thrust already works like the little engine that could (haha!) Thank you! Big fan of your channel 👍🏼

How many people of late have changed or said if they had to choose between Kayak and Bass boat, picked the Kayak? IMO start with a Striker4 on your yack and see how you learn. Investing thousands on a bass boat won't necessarily increase your catch especially if you are working shallows away from wind that a boat can't get into. Try it, you may just fall in love again. Peddle or Paddle. I do both.

This has been happening on my fishery. Except, it’s with striper and the nicer largemouth will mix in with them. I caught a 4.95 on the gunfish 117 the other day. Yesterday I didn’t get anything big, but I smashed on them with a plper and the little bubble Walker. But you will see them literally foaming like tuna they get so aggressive. And it will
Last a while and then they are gone and the rest of the day they will pop up here and there just not as much as that first feeding session of the morning. But I had a huge school to myself for a while until everybody saw …..but you guys are spot on. With this video. Especially in the canyon reservoirs. This is occurring on a daily basis for me right now. Might try to go subsurface on them next time.

@@jimmcculloch5825 Here's my take after many [70+]years. If you're right handed put on a left crank reel. I would avoid Monofilament and Flour-carbon line to start. Use a 20 lb line to learn. Light test is hard to tie and cuts in on a backlash. Set the spool tension so it barely turns to release the bait to the floor. Set the magnetic s between 7-10 to start. Always point the handles up or down, [earth magnetic]. Raise the rod tip up to 12' O'clock, release the thumb a pinch, as the tip nears 1 o'clock behind you -- snap it forward pointing the tip to the direction of the cast. Keep the thumb on the rim of the spool very light, let the feeling of the line against the side of the thumb as it goes out, If it makes a sound or flaps, edge the thumb down or over. Decrease spool tension and magnetics as your thumb becomes educated. If you snarl, put your thumb down tight on the spool and crank it back in and then release and pull the line out, sometimes you get lucky. Practice in the yard, not in the water. Best to ya.

GLISS by Ardent is the smooth Superline you need! It's strands of Dyneema, thermally extruded; they're heated and stretched, making a smooth, single filament of the strongest, smallest Superline known to man! Put a ¼oz Hammered Chrome Mann's Little George on a good spinning outfit with 12 or 18lb Gliss and you're ready for fall schoolers. That rig will outcast and outfish most everything in water filled with pelagic baitfish. It works most all year long, too!

  • @Huntn_fish365

What baits would you suggest for the ultra small baitfish lakes. The baitfish that the bass and panfish are chasing are anywhere from literally half an inch to an inch and a half. A super small dropshot and the mini max bladed jig were the only things I could get bit on.. I threw the small shower blows and couldn’t get bit on it. Like what ULTRA finesse baitfish oriented lures/baits do y’all use?

I hate when that happens. Its a bad feeling pulling up to the lake or driving over the causeway and you look out and see 50+ boats all taking off or sitting there ready for the start. If I remember I'll check online to see if there are any tournaments at the lake I'm going to. If there is and I can wait I'll try to go fish a couple hours before dark after they all left already and stuff has settled down. If I can't wait I just come in and take my time and either downsize or go the other direction and go big. I am curious as to what others do in that situation too.

Right now during the fall transition and fall feed don’t worry about who’s been there. Like Tim said they’re chasing bait balls. They’re constantly moving right now and feeding up. I’ve found the smaller ones are up breaking. But there will be a big one in the mix. If you can get the first one to miss that’s when the big ones commit. I leave the smaller ones alone and target the bigger ones on the bottom waiting for those dead ones to float down. If you see them blowing up look at the bottom for a spot they’ll push them up against and I deep crank. Everyone else is pulling up 1 pounders around me but I’m pulling on those 3 to 5’s under em.
