Gita Amma, thank you for creating this video tutorial. It is very easy to follow. I was able to cook varan, bhat and batata bhaaji and feed myself and my children- wife's away :) I seldom cook, but I have now gained the confidence to cook often. Thank you 🙏
I have used pressure cooker in the past, but the quantity of water was never correct. Today, all three items came out perfect. I was most pleased with the rice. I used basmati and the cooked rice has all long grains intact. I added two drops olive oil before cooking. Beautiful!
Many thanks from London! And wish you a long and healthy life.

Thank you Shalini . This is a tried and tested method which works well The cooking time and number of whistles may vary with the brand of pressure cooker used . However pls check your cooker gasket and safety valve too .Try soaking the dal for 15 mins before cooking . Open the cooker only after the pressure has released fully . Do try again and let me know

Miami nice; out of curiosity, I have a humble question. Neenga pathu paaka maatela, as in I saw at timeline 3.21 the cloth is muxing with your saree...although I see a lot of Brahmanas in TH-cam cooking doesn’t see pathu and touch everything with same hand or just be casual, while at our ancestral home they were quite cautious to wash hands after touching any cooked food.... I’m young and don’t even live in India but I see too much aacharam echil pathu like our olden days orthodox homes, I’m kind of ocd on that haha I know it’s in a way bad but this agyanam doesn’t leave me lol for some reason

Keep a large enough separator for the rice. There should be some space above the water level of rice as it will increase in volume

@@GitasKitchen Dear Madam: Thank you for sharing this video. I wish to ask you for your recommendation of pressure cooker capacity for my cooking requirements mentioned below: (1) I need to cook mostly for 1 person. However, I need to be able to cook for 4 people when friends come over (which happens very rarely), (2) I wish to be able to cook rice, dal, and vegetables in one go using separators as you have shown in this video, (3) I wish to be able to cook idlis using an idli stand (4 plates of 4 idlis each) in the same cooker. That is, I want my pressure cooker to be wide enough and tall enough to fit the separator pans and the idli stand comfortably without it being a very tight fit.
Could you kindly recommend me a suitable capacity for my pressure cooker purchase? I'm not in a position to go to a Prestige showroom during this lockdown. I'm asking this so that I could order online and not regret my purchase.

What happens when it's being cooked using separator?

    • @GitasKitchen

Shraddha, you need to add water 1;3 for dal. that is one cup dal add 3 cups water. Cook for 3 whistles. Sometimes it depends on the quality of the dal too. in that case soak in hot water for 15 mins before cooking.Check if there is enough water in the base of the cooker
