  • Time to dust off the wooden steering wheel!
Joining the HSO Gold Star league as they run their 500km of Monza. Taking to the high-banks in 1956 sportscars is a sketchy affair as we blast around the 10k layout of historic Monza. Driving the 4.5 Liter Ferrari 375, I will be slightly down on top speed to the Lancias, and ultra-sleek Jaguars, but hoping the slip-stream and strategy will go my way!
Can I survive and make the distance?

This is actually kinda funny to watch as the opponent in our race-long "battle". The unfortunate reality was that my "also a Ferrari" was the 375 MM, that tops out at 162mph and goes 23 laps on a full tank of fuel, so staying in the draft wasn't (just) courtesy, it was an absolute requirement. I hit the wall on the outside of Parabolica at 3:43:40 and lost the tow, and just that 2.5 laps without a draft meant that I lost the ability to go the full 50 laps on one stop if Niklas happened to have a last-minute accident. Gerard in the black and yellow car was also a 375MM and we lapped him, and most of that was the benefit of the draft that he lost early on.
If I hadn't had the accident, the lunge would have come in the last corner on the last lap. A happy accident of how the speeds of these cars were was that I could have gotten the overlap just a couple of seconds before entering the banking, so I most likely could have forced it and been ahead by a couple hundreths at the line. I was lifting in the middle of the banked turns too, so getting on the inside would have been possible there too. I found that at least for my car, the high line was slightly slower than the middle on the banking.

Oh wow, i didn't know it was you actually because of the name! Great racing with you and it would have been fun to see it work out organically but I can't complain with my result!

You wanted to know what time I started... Well, people were giving east coast AU times, but I'm on the west coast, so it was a 3 AM start for me! It was just coming up to 6:30 when we had our encounter. Sim racing for breakfast!

Such a fun watch! Like all of your other content. These old cars are a riot! Low grip, and you really have to finesse the inertia. How did you not scrape the guardrail at the top of the banking is beyond me. Cheers sir!

I looked up "lesmo" on an Italian-to-English online translator. Its meaning was given as, "That's why it's so important."
"Go fast, turn right" is why Ferrari race cars were almost all right-hand-drive.
And, yes, more Fifties/early Sixties racing sports car races, please. Hell, even go mid-to-late Sixties Trans Am racing, too.

I happened to catch the stream right from the beginning of the race. It was way more interesting than I thought it would be. You're very good at talking and driving, it really makes a big difference for the viewer to stay entertained.

I think its so cool how sim racing can event start to reveal things like racing styles and tactics and illuminate what it was like running those races, in terms of pack strategy and things like that. That being said checking your tire pressures mid banking is a nice modern luxury.

Loads of fun to watch, great race! Super scary when you decided to go low in the banking to let the leader through, the car looked so unstable compared to the high line close to the barrier!

Really enjoyed that, nice finish, I think Lari did a fantastic job.
Pity about the incident but, it can happen when racing such a long race so close together.
Only think I'd like, is, we have the question of will you get a penalty, if you'd consider making a pinned comment post race, something like
"blah blah, post race no penalty, sorry again to x, blah blah result". Just for some closure as a viewer, because I don't really know enough about rFactor or the stuff you're doing to know how to find out.

Glad you've come back to 1956 online racing!
I was really hoping that you would do another HRRC (Historic Road Racing Championship) online series, following the success of last year's event - which nearly all of the participants and viewers (and the professional commentators) enjoyed tremendously! I realise it's a lot of work for you though.

I have no interest in rf2 content until MSG sells it to an ethical owner. I know I am not the only one.
