Ok here’s how the term wife-beater actually came to be. This piece of clothing was created after the invention of shirts, it was actually made by a french man who sold clothing in 1923. It didn’t catch on though until this man: Charles Martin came to america, he went with his wife. He made quite the name for himself because of the clothing he produced, but he was also quite infamous because he’d hurt his wife a lot. Eventually his wife left and moved back to france behund his back.
It was there that his wife: claudette deleau started writing letters about the clothing that charles produced. She kept on writing up until the point where she would meet her second lover, together with him, she would later be found living in the rural parts of france with him: Jean and her two children who happened to be twins. They all lived a happily ever after. This story was later confirmed to be incorrect, I hope you liked my writing :)
