@@willgreenfieldyeah as a person which destroyed Derailleurs so often i even cant count in the last few years. But of course there are a few special things if you wanna build a Belt drive bike. Especially a full suspension one. Pinion managed it really well and the combination with the MGU in the nicolai is really exciting. The only thing to complain is: the "clicks/play" in the mgu should really be more like in good quality freehubs. There is so much play if you start to pedal again. Why have a pinion reat hub where you can feel basically nothing if you push 1/8 round on the crankset until your drivetrain does anything. Still love it and all in all still impressive and really looking forward to ride mine
Honestly - The MGU is an absolute industry killer. I wouldn't even consider buying an e-MTB that's not based on this design. The lack of needed maintenance, the gearing range, the reduced unsprung mass and resulting traction, the reliability and robustness, absolute no-brainer. For non-electric bikes you could argue if the extra weight and internal resistance of a Pinion gearbox is worth it, but in an e-bike those points are irrelevant.
This is great news. I've ordered the G3 Downhill rig for summer. Pinion gearbox with eShift. Not an eeeebs but I'm feeling better about a gearbox bike everyday now 😂
Wondering how you were able to effectively judge the performance of this motor \ gearbox just going downhill when you basically need almost no shifting and no high load on a motor to pedal? I would love to see you do a ride through steep rolling terrain mixed with rocky technical up-hills to get a much better idea of the power and shifting since that would require constant gear ration changes and a wide range of pedal effort. P.S. That bike was very silent going downhill compared to videos I see with, say, a Bosch CX, where they sound like they are carrying a tin can full of bolts rattling around! Impressions of the Saturn 16? Thanks
To answer your first question, i rode the bike all around finale ligure before filming this video, technical uphill, flow trails, flat singletrack, even some road riding haha! I managed to get quite a good idea of how it performed :) And yes it is way more quiet than any of the other motors and drivetrain setups on the market! Thanks for watching!
Hey! I'm between 6ft and 6'1 around 184cm and was riding the size Large (515mm reach), it did feel big but my personal bike is an S5/XL specialized stumpjumper which has a very similar reach (500mm), so i felt at home on it, as i'm now used to longer reach bikes, especially after riding the XXL nukeproof megawatt which was 515mm also! 515mm on the saturn for a 'large' bike is definitely bigger than most, but to me i'd rather always ride a longer bike over a shorter bike, especially in a location like finale where there's a LOT of rough, rocky, fast straight line sections! Hope that helps, thanks for watching!
Were you left wanting for more travel at all? I ride a 180/180 santa cruz bullit ATM and was hoping that they have plans for an mgu frame with similar travel in the near future. I've contacted Nikolai just now asking and have yet to recieve a reply. Great vid btw!
I Would of Thought Riding up Hills Would be a Better Test ?Your Not Using the Gearbox Freewheeling Down a Hill So No Point. If they Want to Start Selling Lots of these There Going to Have to Start Making them a Lot Cheaper as At £12,000 For a Cycle Is Nuts,Compared to a Normal Bike . A Gearbox Will Always Make Some Noise, You Wont Get Rid of it Unless You Put Thick Oil in it But that Means Drag !!!! Also Some of The Gears are Always in Mesh All the Time and The Speed That they Turn Causes the Noise,Plus Normal Bike is Only Using 1 Gear at a time Not Turning Others.
Hey Pete! Wasn't really a test video more of a 'first ride' experience... either way i have another video coming soon that has a lot more technical climbing in it! Interesting to hear your takes on the whole thing... thanks for watching!
I like the bike but the price is a joke. I kind of get it, low quantity and target group of rich daddies with a big belly. Anyways, I will wait until some of bigger manufacturers finally will get that derailleurs are ancient and will simply copy paste pinion's 6 bolt mount into their frames.
only hearing the tyres when riding is a feeling you cant explain
So satisfying bro, wish every bike came with beltdrive 😩

Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the video and yeah the bikes are definitely awesome 😎
That looked like one hell of a fun trail to ride!
@@brendan1 extremely fun!
This would be top of my list if I was buying a new bike right now
How is this bike holding up? Let me know. What’s awesome about it, what needs improving?
Hello, do you think I should buy Canyon Strive: ON CFR LTD 2024 or EMTB - Pinion MGU, Nicolai Saturn 16?
Rollercoaster trains are be best. Nice riding!
Agreed, one of my favourite trails ever! Thanks bro!
Just need the Solid State batteries (QuantumScape) and then perfect!
About to order one but waiting for your vid doing technical uphill magic.
Damn that probably won't be for a while as i don't have the bike anymore sadly sorry 😩
@@willgreenfield ok, np, watched some other vids and ordered one, can't wait!

epic bike epic trails, wish it didn't have that screen
some gears remind me of the sound of an angry chihuahua haha. I love the frame details though. Very cool bike
I can confirm the angry chihuahua does sit within the frame 🐕

Haha thanks mare
😢🇧🇷e-Bike MGU brasileiro não tempo 2 ano
Its gotta hurt if you fall when riding this fast.
Luckily i didnt get to find out 😅😂
Yeh! But can it be derestrikted? If not then i dont want it.
Rob gave you a run for your money. Go uk
Yep he was moving for sure!
Not really riding with mgu, you’re just going downhill…you don’t need mgu for that…
how do u think i got to the top of the trails buddy haha
I think the same. Down hill is for pansies. 😅 show us the sufferfest!

Slow the video down to 1/4 speed…😂
But yeah I don’t do mountain biking even though I have a mtb , because it’s sooo cushiony…
