I think this is a great video. I see so many people online saying stuff like if you do a 30% water change all your shrimp will die or if you dont drip water change shrimp will die and lots of other wild stuff. Showing your regular maintenance shows how silly some of those old wives tales are.
Not everyone has my tap water and not all shrimp are as tough as mine lil, some people with really bad water or sickly weak imported shrimp will have problems doing such a big water change.
such a sastifying video to watch. I love doing tank maintenance and water changes, it's so relaxing and destressing and i find lots of my shrimp molt after a waterchange, keep up the great videos!
@MarkShellyAquatics for sure. I think I've asked before but how many tanks do you currently have? I have 26 and planning to add one more rack next year for 9 more tanks, not too sure if that will be overwhelming without auto water changes, what's your thoughts
While I been watching this mark I was just thinking of rotating the sponge!!😮 wow great minds think alike😊 good maintenance work!.. dang now I gotta do some work now too!😂 thanks for the video!
How many neocaridina shrimp can I produce out of 10 gallon per month with a good healthy colony going? And how much money can You honestly make a month/ year with a neocaridina in a 10 gallon? Which neocaridina would be the best to start off with breeding for profit? Thanks and keep up the good videos!!!
Lol man, I wish it were that easy. Too many variables. Its way more than a matter of I make this many shrimp, shrimp are worth this much, so I make this much money. Not gonna make much of anything with only a 10 gallon. I've had 100s and 100s of gallons dedicated to shrimp and took years before it was even paying for itself, I lost money for years, because it was well a hobby lol. If you're getting into it for money you may as well not even start, there are lots of things you can do to make more money. I dont do this to get rich, I am able to do what I love and scratch out a living. Also I dont even use 10g tanks, much much better off going with a 20g if you wanna try to do what I am doing. Only reason I can do this is because my house is paid off, my cars are paid off, I have no payments on anything, all I gotta do is keep the utilities on, and wife has a good job with health benefits for all of us. Goes much deeper like I said than hoe many shrimp can you make with 1 tank. If you're just breeding shrimp in a 10g, you think there will be a line of people waiting to buy your shrimp? There needs to be a demand for YOUR shrimp, you need a brand. Maybe if you were in good with an LFS owner you might get 1 buck a shrimp, but probably something like 50 cents store credit. With a 10g you might be able to sale 20 to 50 shrimp a month as there will be ups and downs, but if its a good successful colony it could probably handle that. So maybe anything from 10 to 50 bucks a months, if you can find a buyer. Name brand and recognition are even more important than the shrimp.
@@MarkShellyAquatics First off thank you for taking the time to responding to my question. lol I’m not trying to get rich off this. I’m a hobbyist just setting up some shrimp tanks and was curious if you can make money a few bucks off it and how many shrimp you could actually produce in a 10 gallon. I was hoping to make a few bucks here and there selling them so they could buy me some more shrimp lol And I’m interested in your green jades. How much culling do you have to do to maintain them? I heard green jades are a lot of work?
Hi mark your videos are very interesting, I have some questions to ask you I hope you can answer me: What substrate do you use, what values does your water have gh, kh, ph, tds I have 10-gallon aquariums but my shrimps don't grow much, I think it's because of the size of the aquarium, I make 30% changes every fortnight, I use RO water, I remineralize with salty gh kh, my shrimps look good but they don't breed like you, I hope you can help I think it's my aquarium size?
You will have better luck in bigger tanks, but 10g is plenty big enough to have a lot of shrimp in. Sometimes it just takes time. Parameters are not really important with neos, people who use tap water who have problems is either because they have something toxic to shrimp in their water. Or their water source is very inconsistent. Neos can adjust to about anything as long as you have some gh and kh, and with you making your own water you know thats not the problem. Just keep making it the same as you have. How long have you had them? What do you feed? Is tank cycled and established, light? Plants? Sometimes they just take a while to get going.
@@MarkShellyAquaticsThank you for your answer, I contact you on Facebook and I send you some photos of my tanks, the tanks barely adjusted a year of cycling, also breeding caridinas with these has gone much better for me because I changed them to 20-gallon tanks and they are breeding very well
so how long after you use your hydrogen peroxide treatment in the tank? then how long till you do a water change and do you do a large change at that time? Did you have 3 light fixtures on your 20 gallon highs?
The h2o2 leaves nothing behind in water so no need to do a water change, it breaks down into water and oxygen. So no need to do a water change, but you have to be careful, too much and it can damage shrimp gills. I have done a huge number of tests with it on shrimp and fish. I have gone all the way up to 3 to 4 mls per gallon with guppies and they are fine. Shrimp do start having issues around 2 or a little higher, so dont go over 1.5 in shrimp tanks. I never do it more than oncer per 24 hours, and you really shouldn't do it more than a couple times a week. I usually do it on my problem tanks in middle of weekly water changes. Dose h2o2 while tank has had 25% of water taken out, dose h2o2, and then filled back up.
@@MarkShellyAquatics thank you I have been fortunate on not getting bad algae but never the less it does get in some of the tanks enough to be annoying.
I lose about 5% of my water every week, no idea why. Maybe lights making it evaporate or its sploshing out in specs, via my sponge filter bubbles bursting. I just top up 10% from the tap a week, seems to work. I have Scottish Water :)
Evaporation, in summer I lose very little water in tanks even with dehumidifier running. In the winter when my natural gas furnace runs a lot i lose 3 or 4 inches of water if its really cold and furnace runs a lot. If you are not doing water changes and just topping off you should be using RO or Distilled water. When using tap the water evaporates but the minerals are left behind, if you do that a bunch the minerals in your water will build up higher and higher and eventually become a problem. With plants and if you have fairly soft water you may get away with it for a long time.
Something about squeezing out dirty sponges is just really satisfying!
Lol, crazy how theu go from weighing like 3lbs back to almost nothing lol.
I love watching tank maintenance more than any other type of aquarium content!
😁👍

I got some sponge for the intake of hang on back to keep plants and stuff out ! They work good but clog way to fast ! Then filters just drip lol
Trick is to use really coarse sponges
Awesome video very helpful and same style maintenance as me kinda so cool thank you 🙏🏼 for sharing this 😅
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching 👍
