this movie is a huge part of my childhood! it even inspired me to be a musician. .I think it was ahead of its time,a masterpiece. and the soundtrack is the greatest! genius.
"Basil Poledouris' score for the film has to be one of, if not, the greatest score ever composed in the 80's." Amen, Brother. Still, my favorite movie and soundtrack ever made.
the good old days of motion film making, when movie sets composed of actual geographical areas, not filmed in front of a blue screen to be later edited by a computer
This one of my absolute favorite movies growing up. Always wanted to run free over the land & fields like Conan and Subotai. This was a great video, thanks for bringing back a lot of fine memories.
Never get tired of watching this video, between the scenes that brings back memories and the fantastic music. Watch it almost every time I come on TH-cam. Only wish I could visit these sites.
Thank you for a great job showing the locations. I spent 5 months at most of these locations playing 11 characters. I have great stories to share of what happened at these magical places, You brought back fun memories!
Thankyou Herve! Muchas gracias. What fond memories I have of this film. I would run with my close buddy through some local open fields like Conan and Subotai to share the same sense of adventure and comraderie. We would share wine and wom......but that is another story best left untold. ;)
What a beautiful piece of art. The music overlaying what must have been countless hours of research and travel to locate not only the locations, but to masterfully overlay them against the movie. Even locating that single rock at 3:41! And thank you for the tribute to author Robert E. Howard, R.I.P.
Spain is the land of Conan!! Some researchers say that the ancient Atlantis was actually located in "Doñana" too. The most amazing landscapes, (forests, beaches, deserts, mountains) ara in Spain, the land of contrasts.
The video is somehow so sad. A perfect example how time keeps going and everything you see, wherever you were, change over the years. Yet you still can remember what happened in these places. Anyway, long live the music of Basil Poledouris, the greatest composer ever. And Conan... Conan simply rules!
Thank you for this. This moive holds a very special place in my heart. Rest in peace Basil, the first composer who's name i learned and the one i will never forget. Thank you!
This movie has always been my favorite. I remember going to the drive in as a kid and seeing it. Made me ambitious as hell. Still live by the opening quote to this day. Definitely got me out of my rustbelt hometown.
Lau
Great job! But the creators of this video forget the first sequence of the movie (Conan as a child). This sequences was shooted in Sierra of Navacerrada (or Guadarrama, i don´t remember) between Madrid and Segovia.
Thanks to this video i visited the location. Booked a holiday not too far away and drove here. I believe i now own the second clip pieces as show on this video that were part of the fire bowls lining the steps
i loved the video , nice work. back in the day when they had to construct huge moviesets those were the best movies. building those sets was a form of art . now its all greenscreen.
very cool .. the music really made that moive epic and when ever I hear the the works of Basil Poledouris my mind goes back to when i was a kid watch conan the Barbarian..thanks for sharing
Superb job, not only historical but even archeological. It should be included among the extras on any future dvd/bluray release of the movie. Congratulations! I only missed the locations of the wheel of pain, some people found remnants of the wheel there too,
Truly beautiful video! Thank you so much for taking the time and devotion to create such an awe inspiring piece of art. This should seriously be on the upcoming Blu-ray release!
Ever!!!! I'm still obsessed the track and the movie and I'm like 45 now! I new I meant it when I was only 14 or 15 that it was gonna be my fav forever. I love how they show the filming spots then and now with slight changes in topography, Awesome
It's really powerful when you think of these real places, and think of them as actual places of actual conan events something like 8,000 years ago...quite spiritual. And it is true, Conan the Barbarian helped inspire me to get big now I'm 6' 206lb all muscle.
That's awesome Herve !! I love the way you capture angles of the scenes and compare them between "then and now". Thank you, superb filming and production. I loved the "First Blood" film you did, my favorite movie ever.
I saw Conan the Barbarian when it was originally in the theater. I also have the Soundtrack on CD, and the music is beautiful. I really like the first 2 songs on the CD the best.
Nice little video. Saw film in theaters, my first (I was 4) Continues to be my favorite film, largely due to the score, which I listen often. Without the score the film would be...well, Red Sonja, but a little better.
Conan lived in Cimmeria, 12.000 years ago, "before the oceans drank Atlantis". Cimmeria was next to the Pictish Wilderness on one side, and Asgard and Vanaheim on the other side. Except that he never exsisted, and neither did Cimmeria, the Pictish Wilderness, Asgard or Vanaheim. The oceans didn't drink Atlantis, because there was no Atlantis. 12.000 years ago, Europe was covered in Ice! It's all Fantasy. However, the MOVIE Conan the Barbarian was shot in Spain, on the locations shown here.
I love visiting film locations too, whenever I can. I've been to Astoria, Oregon and have seen most of the spots from The Goonies. I've also been to some of the spots from the original Star Wars in Death Valley, where parts of Tatooine were filmed, and the redwood forest where the Ewoks lived in ROTJ.
Boy this really tugged at my heartstrings,
The soundtrack on this movie was a masterpiece not enough people recognize that.
I think anyone who's a fan of the movie will recognize the brilliance of the score
Bloody fantastic
this movie is a huge part of my childhood! it even inspired me to be a musician. .I think it was ahead of its time,a masterpiece. and the soundtrack is the greatest! genius.

So nostalgic..My late Father also always liked to watch this movie..👍🥲
Great video Herve! Whoever did the scenery scouting for this movie, didn't slack at the job. Great music, too. One of the best Arnie movies..

Its beautiful .
Era.
The video is somehow so sad. A perfect example how time keeps going and everything you see, wherever you were, change over the years. Yet you still can remember what happened in these places.

Simply amazing. There are no words to do this kind of quality justice.
Juz zep SIp.
Fíjate en los créditos. Aparece justo al acabar la película, algo como "this film was completely shot in Spain".
Outstanding! Herve does the best job ever on these location videos!!
It's really powerful when you think of these real places, and think of them as actual places of actual conan events something like 8,000 years ago...quite spiritual. And it is true, Conan the Barbarian helped inspire me to get big now I'm 6' 206lb all muscle.

Good work. Spain has so many weird landscapes for fiction films.
Nice little video. Saw film in theaters, my first (I was 4) Continues to be my favorite film, largely due to the score, which I listen often. Without the score the film would be...well, Red Sonja, but a little better.
