Attempting to Catch a Shark from a UK Beach!

  • Join Graeme & Mike from TA Outdoors as they attempt to catch a shark from a UK Beach. The boys go fishing on the south coast of england and cast out a big bait on a large hook and try fishing for a shark. Graeme talks through his shark fishing rig. Beach Fishing in the UK is very popular, and this time of year you can catch Mackerel on feathers. The fishing really picks up later in the day as the mackerel drive the tiny bait fish up onto the shore line. Graeme uses these small fish as bait to catch larger fish! They then catch and cook fresh mackerel straight from the ocean and onto the frying pan! Thanks for watching!

Where have you been fishing bro? I'm from brighton and have literally been pulling out the mackeral 3-4 at a time for 2 hours solid once it hits high tide. Took home anything over 80-90 mackeral between me and a mate in 2 days.. and similar to this vid the white bait where being washed up onto the shore in the hundreds.. filled a tub up in 10 minutes. Been fantastic fishing in Brighton this summer.

About 10yrs ago I was royally bust off fishing west bex using whole mackerel and 12lb mono on the bottom. Bait was picked up and the fish carried on swimming along the beach just outside of the breakers. I followed it along the beach trotting to keep up. legs wobbling and arms shaking as i couldn't believe what was going on. I panicked a little and tried to stop apply a little more pressure and the line went. No crack just nothing there all of a sudden.. I still don't think it knew it was hooked as it hadn't headed out but was still just swimming along the shore. I have no idea what it was but have been trying most yrs since to get something similar to happen. It was on 27th July, dusk with virtually no wind, light seas and a little high cloud cover. Perhaps I should use the wife's Sunday roasting joint next time. Great film as always. Thanks for posting

Great whitebait bonus! I love em. Rough-weather surf during weekends fishing in the 50s and 60s at Dungeness years ago also used to throw up huss on the beach. You had to be quick to pick em up though. For mum it was a curse and a blessing. Huss were her favourite fish to eat but she’d sometimes lose her own skin while skinning the fish nailed to the draining board at home.

  • @DavidWardle
    @DavidWardle 5 ปีที่แล้ว

I do whitebait in seasoned flour and just fry them up or you could do a light batter. Put a little beer in the flour and stick the fish in it, then fry. Skin side down first for fillets, cook it until the fish is done half way up and turn for about a minute on the fish side, add a little lemon juice and eat... perfect. Love the videos guys

On the east coast of Maryland. I vaguely remember squid and blood worms to catch tiny sand sharks back in the mid to late 60s. My father who was from upstate New York no where near the coast absolutely love surf fishing. He would catch the sand sharks or perhaps they were really baby sharks..let them loose and we would chase them back out into the surf. Maybe that was just a distraction to keep us busy on the shore will he fished. Mainly I remember each night on the weekend we would eat blue fish wrapped in bacon. Lovely you post these videos. They sparked really nice memories for me.

Brilliant guys. Don't choke on that whitebait Graham! Me and the old man enjoyed this. I'd say always shallow fry skin side first until almost cooked then literally heat off flash other side with residual heat. Can't beat fresh fish. All the best gents, loving the saxon build btw, Jim.

Best way to cook white bait is dip in egg then coat in a flour and bread crumb mix and fry! Serve with lemon and garlic mayo 👌

I've seen the whitebait being pushed onto the beach by the mackies a few times in the past. Hundreds of juvenile garfish amongst them once. I remember seeing the mackerel chasing small fish actually in the breaking wave with the sun lighting through the wave. Hell of a sight that was. Loved this vid. Fun fishing at it's best.

I like to do my Whitebait by rolling them in seasoned flour, dipping them in tempura batter and then cooking them in EVO until light golden brown and then eat them with some lemon and english mustard mayo.
As far as the Mack-daddies go. I used to live on the edge of Loch Goil and while the women went to church on Sunday mornings i would go out and build a cooking fire on the beach, catch a couple of dozen macks and the odd Saithe (very occasionally there would be a bonus Sea Trout) and then back to the beach to have my favourite fry-up.
Our house was built on the remains of an old croft and included a smoking pit that we cleaned up and would use quite regularly in the summer months so we could have our favourite fish all the way through winter.
But we never filet them. Just gut, de-fin, and cut the heads and tails off. Then butterfly them , slash the skin and cook them skin side to the heat first (thats where the majority of the cooking time is) then flip them and cook the meat side until you see the blood in the spine change colour (that way you know it's properly cooked)
Clabbies are another delish dish too. If you don't already know, Clabbies are giant mussels and just two medium sized ones will make a decent meal for one person, but they do grow to around 8 inches long!!. Just fill a saucepan with seaweed, lay the Clabbies on top. Then cover and cook for a few minutes till they open.
Serve with bite size slices of smoked streaky bacon. As simple as that!...food of the gods!

Great video again! Think I'd always cook fish skin down first. Will crisp up the skin and cook most of the meat. Flip over after a couple of minutes and you should only need a minute or so on non skin side. Saves the meat from sticking to the pan and falling apart

In Devon I've seen a tideline of whitebait 6" deep. Also seen the sea boil with everything throwing itself out of the way of a very large predator in a small cove, no more than 20 ft from the shore. They are out there..

Great video Graham & Mike. Reminds me of sailing home from St. Malo to Jersey catching mackerel on paravanes. Straight into a saucepan of boiling seawater and then eating them with plenty of butter and French baguette. Please keep making these excellent videos.

    Peepeeee! 🐶🎾!
Skin side down first always to get that good crispy sear and the flip to finish cooking, skin side is the presentation side! Cook those white fish like smelts, dredge in flour then toss with, oregano, olives, cherry tomatoes, white wine and finish with lemon juice!

😂 me and my dad did the same.. we took home easily 80-90+ mackeral in 2 days from brighton and hove beach. Plus heaps of sprats (white bait) that just washed up on shore like in this video.
Would never usually take that many home as I like to practice catch and release as often as possible but the numbers of mackeral this year have been the highest ive seen In years! And i also had the same thought as you did... plenty of winter bait 🙂

I've caught sharks up to 300lb off the beach in Namibia, we used chum from the shore too. We had 200lb sharks literally almost beaching themselves on the sand trying to get at the huge chum deadbaits staked in just several inches depth of water... amazing to watch!

Great fishing, those small one would be great for a pike, perch show. So go the river and catch a big pike on free bait or a shark boat trip with plenty of bait unless your wife or Mabel decide eat a few. Another very entertaining video with lots of excitement, today it was mackerel and last week a lot of thorn back rays. Thanks

There was a bunch of peeps who were catching dusky sharks from the beaches of southern Massachusetts. Massachusetts, Dorset, same difference. Over here sharks come very close to the beach. I hooked into a big monkfish from rocks NEXT to the beach in Newquay-yes, that Newquay-35 years ago. Crap washing out of the harbour was very chum like. Very tricky, 8.2 lbs line. We were all mucking about with light line back then distance casting for rays.
