  • Springtime means warmer temperatures and as much as we love riding under bright skies, spring also means it’s time for an oil change before storing your Ski-Doo 4-stroke snowmobile for the summer. These are the steps you'll want to follow:
    1) With the sled parked on a flat surface, start the sled and let it idle until your engine warms to operating temperature. Shut the sled off and remove the DESS key.
    2) Remove both side panels. Although not necessary to complete an oil change, you may find taking the hood off allows for easier access to the oil filter.
    3) If you choose to remove the hood, be sure to disconnect the wiring harness plugs and loosen the air intake boot.
    4) Loosen the access panel under the belly pan and rotate it to access the drain plugs.
    5) With a catch pan in place, remove the drain plugs.
    6) Remove the oil filter.
    7) Clean the area if necessary.
    8) Grab your new XPS Oil Change Kit. Engine oil change kits should include everything you need.
    9) Once the old oil is completely drained, reinstall the drain plugs making sure to replace the seal washers with the new ones that come in the oil change kit.
    10) Install the new oil filter, replace the O-ring on the cover with the new one that came in the kit making sure it's properly seated and reinstall the cover tightening each bolt evenly.
    11) With new filter and plugs reinstalled, it's time to add the new oil and reinstall the dipstick. XPS Oil Change kits come with the perfect amount of oil for your engine.
    12) Once the new oil is added, you can safely start the engine and bring it up to operating temp.
    13) Double check the oil level with the dipstick and inspect for any leaks around the plugs. The dipstick needs to be tightened to get a proper reading.
    14) If everything looks good, re-tighten the access panel, put the hood back on if you've removed it (don't forget to reconnect wiring harnesses) and replace the side panels.
Pro tip: Lubricate the rubber grommets before installing the windshield.
Not sure if you missed something? Watch the video for a more detailed walkthrough of the process and you’ll be ready for summer in no time.

The G4 hood is a pain to take off. The XS was simple 4 screws and undo 2 wire connectors
