  • Bromeliads are stunning, easy to care for, and pet safe! They make excellent beginner house plants.
    Thank you for joining me in the appreciation of this beautiful tropical plant!

    70 subscribers?! I feel like I’m getting in on the ground floor! I picked one up at IKEA and am just repotting. It’s been doing ok so far in my home. The flower has really opened up and it’s looking lovely! I was looking for a video to confirm I was using the correct potting medium. I haven’t chanced water in the pitcher yet but fingers crossed I don’t have issues with rot (dry climate so here’s hoping). Anyway, well done. All the best with the channel. :)

    You said coco peat doesnt provide good drainage that is not true its the best for drainage . Use concrete in the bottom of your pot to hold it down also use bigger pot and put the plant a little deeper

    I have a question I just bought mine say two months ago and the flower was opening up so as I was getting care tips n I added water to the vase where the flower comes out of about a 1/4 fill days later I noticed my flower wilting and then loosing it's color it never got to fully bloom instead it started drying out n turning brownish gray. Then its stem just came out and the end looked as it rottened out so why did it do that if added water there is what all say to do. And since the flowers n stem dyied off how do I care for it now. I'm scared to put anymore water in its well

      I’m sorry to hear that your bloom rotted! Bromeliads do need good air circulation, so that could be the cause of the rot. I suggest placing the plant outdoors in the shade, if it is not yet already, or adding a fan if it is indoors. Also hold off on watering for a few days so that it has a chance to dry out and heal. Hopefully the rot does not spread to the rest of the plant. I hope that helps!

    This is probably a stupid question, but I do not have a green thumb and this plant is giving me anxiety, 😂 How do you discard the water sitting in the middle?

    • @emi.leaves
      @emi.leaves  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can either flush it out with clean water, or if there’s a bunch of gunk I suppose you could use a turkey baster or long handle tweezers. I often use those to reach in and pull out debris.
      Hope that helps!

    Can I save it from root rot or is too far gone?

    • @emi.leaves
      @emi.leaves  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Check the base of the plant. You can pull off the mass of rotted roots and let it dry out. If the rest of the plant is healthy the bromeliad will grow new roots. Good luck!

    Can I use Potty Soil for this plant

    • @emi.leaves
      @emi.leaves  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes! The medium should work as long as it has adequate drainage, and potting soil generally does

    What the name of the fertilizer?

    • @emi.leaves
      @emi.leaves  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Espoma Organic Orchid! Bloom Booster, but any 1-3-1 fertilizer will work for your bromeliad and other epiphytic plants. Just make sure to dilute it and water the plant prior to fertilizing. I hope that helps!
