    I have made my grandmothers pear preserves for years. Even though I kind of know it by heart I always pull out the handwritten recipe. I wrote it down 20 years ago before she passed. Somehow my recipe note disappeared so I searched on YT and found this. What a sweet lady. Reminds me so much of my grandmother, soft spoken and just knows what to do and how to do it. I hope she is well and still canning. May God richly bless you!

    I love that you did this video. I was looking for a recipe, method of jarring pears and came across your video. I tearfully watched it, in part-laughing, in part - just thankful you're that kind of grandson. I'm sure your family will cherish this long after....well. I know that I would.

    It's time for me to start the process with my pears. Glad I found this video. Once simply cannot make the best preserves without conversation like this. Such a blessing.

    What a blessing to have this video! I'm making pear preserves this morning and came up on this. I'm so glad I did! Wish I still had my mom! The pears I'm using came from a pear tree my dad planted and the people who own the house gladly allowed me to pick the pears from the tree.

    She cut the pear without breaking the peel. Just like my great grandmother used to do. I have tried, but I always break it. I love learning from elders.

      My mom can do it to but not me. I actually gave up and decided to peel from top to bottom.
      She is 94 and talking about getting out and working in the garden? Man I can't do that and I am just 53. Course I am disabled AND i hated working in the garden. LOL I always did the housework, laundry etc. while my mom did the garden. She loves it but finally didn't try one this year since my dad died, Just 2 or 3 tomatoes plants and same with squash and okra I think.

    • @GregWMayo
      @GregWMayo  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I’m sure your tears were of sadness but only because of the joy and happiness your grandmother has given to you. I’m not sure if you were referring to her passing , a year before you typed this comment, or if you simply haven’t been able to visit and speak with her. Either way, clearly she lives on in your mind and heart. I lost my other grandmother in 1992 but like you, I can hear her voice in my head just as clearly as if she were sitting beside me. I bet if wires could be connected to my forehead and yours, the recording and playback would match their voices perfectly, when compared to any recorded media storing their voices.
      Are you lucky enough to have any kind of recoding of your grandmother’s voice? I have 100’s if not 1000’s of VHS and cassette tapes of family but so far I have only found about 2 seconds of my other grandmother’s voice.
      Anyway, I hope we provided you with a little joy in your heart and we hope you are well.

    Hi Ms. Johnston, let me tell you where you can stick your comment about how my 96 year old grandma peels pears. This video was not recorded for monetary gain. It was just for family and for people who have brains and character. Unlike someone like you with a 40 IQ.

    I love this video. I have 2 pear trees and they are super loaded this year. I know how to make pear preserves but I always like to look for any new updated ideas/short cuts. Saw this video and knew I had to watch. I sure do miss mine (and my mom too). My grandma has been gone for 35 years and my mom for 7 years. Both were avid canners of vegetables and fruits and those 2 are why I know how to can.

    My grandmother had a pear tree--the pears weren't fit to eat so she made pear preserves every year. It was a tradition to get several jars of preserves from her every year! With all the sugar she added, they were good.

      Hi Ms. Johnston, let me tell you where you can stick your comment about how my 96 year old grandma peels pears. At the time this video was recorded, it was not meant for monetary gain. It was just for family and for people who have brains and character. Unlike a negative Nancy such as yourself.
      For any of her wonderful subscribers who are fans of The Andy Griffith show, like Maw Maw is, y’all will understand what I am about to say. When Ms.Johnston goes, she won’t go like everybody else. She will just “nasty” away. Lol
      I will send a jar of Maw Maw’s tomatoes or pear preserves to the first subscriber who replies with which Andy Griffith Show episode I am alluding to. :)
