    Thank you Adam del Monte for your pedagogic genius. As a former student of the school of Ricardo Isnaola, I can say that much of what you suggest was presented to me under the tutelage of Isnaola. I greatly enjoy you videos and it pleases me to see such a well trained musician as yourself, disseminating such a high level of quality info for the general musical public. Bravo!

    Adam rocks! Not only does he have good techniques and he certainly can teach it well but he has a gift for blending flamenco and jazz in his compositions.

    Thanks Adam, great tip :) I agree with you and Lawrence (below) interns of nail length and also angle the nail when filing them slightly......

    Thanks for that! It's a nice alternative to the "my way is the only right way" mansplaining everywhere else. This is timely for me, as I've been having interesting results with the right and left angle variations.

    As musicians we are always hardest on ourselves. I'm only a little more advanced than the average jazz player, but I know what I'm looking at, your technique is excellent, to the point I am envious 🎶🎵
    I wanted to mention that there are a couple bassists, Billy Sheehan and the infamous Jaco Pastorius, who also use the technique of bending at the second joint, and for the reason you stated, evening out the position of the fingertips.
    But I play fingerstyle more open, not as well as you, but working towards it. I love your explanation of the comprehensive flamenco scale, so much so that I am practicing it to apply to Bossa Nova. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, you have benefit my playing.

    If I discovered that in two separate concert halls on the same night giving a concert were Adam and Paco, I would honestly be hard pressed to choose which performance to see. This is theoretical as Paco is no longer with us unfortunately. I suppose most would choose Paco just to say they saw one of his live performances but musically speaking Adam del Monte in my opinion offers a wider variety of guitar music. Adam plays Albeniz to perfection and plays flamenco with power and verve. As for Paco; if your searching for candidates to describe as the best flamenco guitarist of the 20 TH century it's hard to think of another musician other than Paco de Lucia that fits that description. Yet it must be noted that neither of these great players would ever choose to describe themselves in superlative terms. I've noticed that great musicians take a humble approach to their art, and it's certainly true for both Adam del Monte, and Paco de lucia.

    Hi Adam..I prefer shorter nails on my RH...even I play classical music...and I love to learn flamenco music too....but difficult to learn the rhythm.. flamenco music always has a lot of strumming and picado...especially fast scale run...using i, m. How about i, a? or p, i?

  • @omwilsonow

    I'm new at this, is there a correct way because everyone seems to play this picado differently. Love your fluidity!

    Great info.
    Are there any songs (tabs) that incorporate picados (speed bursts) as part of that composition, so that it is not just scales practise.

    Great analisys , Besides I would like to add that slanting iyour hand a little bit gives you a more natural approach to the instrument

  • @PeterKolta

    Actually the way classical guitarists hold the guitar leads to the same I guess. The i, m and all the other fingers become parallel to the strings as if they had the same length. Also, Sabicas hold the guitar almost the classical way - with the head at your eyes' level, eliminating the m finger's length problem.

  • @vgoldmacadar
    @vgoldmacadar 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    In other words , I meant that your hand is in a more natural position, instead of forcing thr to be parallel to the saddle

    Paco’s technique is miles away from the information in this video. There’s actually a guy on TH-cam that studied with him and he says you should practice picado “without resting the thumb on the 6th string.” It’s ok when performing, but practicing with it there can (and most likely will) develop all sorts of problems.
